Fine for beginners, but only along WITH an excellent class I took. Arabic I think would be incredibly hard to "teach ones self", as this series claims, though the first chapters are helpful and quite well structured. I imagine most beginner, teach-yourselfers probably only use at most half of this type of book (i've looked at a few others, and used them both for learning and teaching), and this is fine up to about half way. After that, as things get more complicated, you really need a teacher and a real grammar and learning materials.

A great book for conversational arabic, but the grammar could be a lot clearer. Other books such as Haywood go into the nuts and bolts in a much clearer and more comprehensive way. And an app like ilang Arabic for pronunciation will also help.
