THEN Two years ago, amateur prosecutor Abra Fawley suffered a life-changing experience after handling a scandalous rape case. Unable to prevent startling circumstances beyond her control, Abra abandoned her prosecutorial duties and currently works as a dispirited private investigator. The guilt still remains…
NOW Two years later, law student Anton Costa is accused of rape by a fellow classmate. While alleging innocence, his notorious past rears its ugly head. Despite a tainted reputation, Anton is sticking to his word: it was consensual.
She says it was rape.
A night off campus with Anton turns into a roller coaster ride to hell for Jentra Mendoza. It all happened in her room. She has the bruises to prove rape. All she needs is the support from her best friend.
A close acquaintance of Anton and Jentra, Lark Ridley is an intriguing girl with questionable intentions. She witnessed the incident. There is one problem: she is missing.
As a favor for a friend, Abra must work with a defense attorney and prove Anton is innocent.
While discovering the ugly facts about her new client, Abra's doubts about the alleged rape makes her question the parties involved as well as herself.
Sometimes I come across a book that instantly calls to me and tells me I must read it; it could be the book’s cover, the tag line, or its synopsis. When it happens I won’t even bother looking at reviews or the author’s previous books, I just snatch up the book and start reading immediately. This was the case when I came across All the Wrong Ways by M.M. Charles, there was just something about the cover that completely drew me in and made me obsessed with obtaining a copy. In the spirit of the upcoming Halloween season I’ve been looking for some darker, grittier thrillers to read and this was the perfect choice for me!! Please keep in mind that this book isn’t for everyone and is not intended for readers under the age of 18. It contains some graphic sexual scenes, including rape, which could be a potential trigger for someone.
All the Wrong Ways is the ultimate “he said, she said” scandal story. In one corner we have Anton Costa, he’s been accused of raping a fellow classmate yet he swears he’s innocent. Anton is a pretty nasty individual and this isn’t the first time he’s had a run in with this type of accusation but does that mean he’s automatically guilty? In the other corner we have Jentra Mendoza, the classmate who’s accusing Anton of her viscous assault. She has the bruises to back up her allegation and claims there’s an eyewitness, a mutual friend of Jentra and Anton named Lark Ridley. There’s only one little problem, Lark Ridley seems to be missing. In steps Abra Fawley, a former attorney who now works as a private investigator. As a favor for a friend, she’s been asked to work with the defense attorney to prove Anton innocence. Will Abra be able to figure out who’s telling the truth and who’s lying?
I loved All the Wrong Ways, it sucked me in right from the beginning and anytime I had to set it down I found myself aching to get back to it. This story was full of the dark suspense I was looking for and it kept me riveted every step of the way, definitely no dull moments here! There were so many questions that I needed the answers too along the way and I kept changing my mind on what I thought really happened; this was truly an edge-of-your seat thriller! I loved that author, M.M. Charles chose to write this story with Abra Fawley working on Anton’s defense team and needing to prove his innocence. I thought this added a really unique angle to the story and caused me to question what I thought I’d figured out along the way, it was brilliant!
I would absolutely recommend All the Wrong Ways for anyone that loves a dark, twisted, thriller with characters that you’ll love and those you’ll love to hate! This would also make a great Book Club choice for October if you’re club loves a thriller that will crawl inside your head and not let you go. I would love to sit and dissect this book in a group setting and think it would be brilliant to discuss the possibility of this book as a movie, I’d love to cast it This was my first book by M.M. Charles and I’m eagerly looking forward to reading more from this talented new author!
A huge thank you to author, M.M. Charles and to Sage’s Blog Tours for providing me with a complimentary copy of his book in exchange for my honest review!
WOAH. I can't remember the last time I read a book so full of suspense like All the Wrong Ways. I completely avoided life responsibilities just to finish this novel in one sitting because I could not put it down. The author has you hanging on the edge of your seat until the final word. It's amazing.
This story is about an awful human named Anton Costa who doesn't value women and treats them like trash. He is being accused of rape and it isn't the first time he has been in trouble for this same charge. We have two girls, Jentra and Lark, who are classmates of Anton, but both have an odd relationship with him and each other.
My favorite character is lawyer turned private investigator, Abra. She is a strong female character who is also flawed like any other human. Abra is working both sides of the case and hunting for the truth. There is a ton of mystery and secrets behind Anton's rape charge. Suspenseful with a capital S.
This book was quite incredible! By the fourth chapter, I was already loving the intense description that Charles uses when writing. The story was so rich and vivid that it really sucked me in and made me feel as if I were standing right there with the characters. There were so many plot twists and turns that I was completely immersed in the story and kept turning the page to find out what would happen next. Within the story were several different points of view and time frames to read, but it was well done and easy to keep up with throughout. When I got to the end of the book, I was on the edge of my seat. Charles did a great job keeping me in suspense and making my jaw drop with the ending. I absolutely cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!
