La mondaine: Tome 2
Zidrou et Lafebre signent la fin de l'excellent diptyque La Mondaine. Juin 1942 : cinq années se sont écoulées, Paris a changé. Le Vélodrome d'hiver, cher à l'Inspecteur Séverin, sera bientôt affecté à un tout autre usage. Aimé Louzeau, lui, a certes gardé son visage de jeune premier, mais sa rencontre avec Eeva, la femme à la panthère, a réveillé ses contradictions : flic ou chef indien ? La frivolité des années 30 a bel et bien disparu. Le lecteur sort bouleversé par les drames, la résignation et une sourde mélancolie.

Este volumen se centra mas en los arrestos sistematicos de los nazis en 1942 en Paris, casi 14000 judios que fueron trasladados a campos de concentracion. Buena conclusión de la historia dando en la pagina final la historia de que fue de los personajes que salen en el comic

The farther in I got -the more I became convinced that these were real stories put to fiction- due to the eccentricities of characters and events happening and synching together in too weird of ways to invent towards a publishable plot. Then it finished with a "what happened to" instead of an ending- that I took to put this diptych on my "non fiction or based on" shelf.
→I had thought that the bomb-shelter crew (of the framing-device) was going to be exploded when they exposed themselves and was glad that didn't happen since Zidrou had the writer's craft to make the "bad guy" my favorite character- a cultured and sensitive man of Europe forced to play the role of a nazi by his country.
My appreciation of Benoît (initials B.D.!) grew, despite a very uncharacteristic 3*s, because I could tell that he was spidering a very difficult web with these people's stories that he wanted to weave into a succinct-enough recounting of the absurdities of wartime. Such realities aren't very entertaining but he did make it plenty humorous to smooth~it~a~bit to the point that, in this second half, the dialogue and metaphors mixed within had me three times saying "That's great writing!"
What is the REAL translation of the title? I see that Europe Comics called it "Vice Squad" but take that as a substititle. The computer translates "The Socialite" but that seems just wrong.

Big fan, especially of the facial expressions and some interesting anatomies, but this is not his best.
*073 (March 15th) was tome 1's legal deposit and this followed on October 18th for those curious about these foreign codes. The release dates, told by the (absent) "A.I." were a bit previous according to bedetheque. I guess DA07 meant 14,99€ too while I'm deciphering.

Better than volume 1, which was a little disjointed. It's an interesting story about wartime Paris and some oddball Frenchmen.
Maybe something was lost in translation, but I'm not sure how to take the hero. It seems that he is supposed to be a good guy, but he refuses to help his Jewish mistress and her daughter to escape the Nazis because she refused to marry him, and uses then tosses away the poor French girl who has mooned over him for years for a fling with a Tahitian exotic dancer. I think that the Tahitian was supposed to be real life and real passion while the mistress was a pretty imitation of passion and the French girl was a staid settling and renunciation of passion. He treats two of the women very badly, but the reader is supposed to excuse it because they were 'fakes?'
Well worth a read and the art is quite good.

Avec ce second tome on voit ce que les auteurs ont voulu faire. Ils arrivent très bien à mélanger le drame familial, la recherche du bonheur et les drames de la guerre avec peu de mots et peu de cases mais beaucoup de force dans les dessins. Ce portrait nuancé de cet homme qui malgré ses bonnes intentions n'en fait pas moins d'erreurs et essaie d'utiliser les femmes pour arriver à son bonheur. La pauvre concierge fera les frais de son envie d'exotisme et Valentine de son indifférence due à une fierté abîmée. La danse sous les bombes offre un très joli spectacle de résilience humaine face à l'adversité.

Segundo y último volumen de La Mondaine.
La Mondaine fue una brigada creada especialmente para controlar la prostitución y la trata de blancas, la pederastia, el tráfico de estupefacientes y las publicaciones indecorosas; estuvo vigente en el país hasta casi los años 80, donde se dividió en : la brigada de estupefacientes y la de represión contra el proxenetismo.
Nuestra historia narra la incorporación de un nuevo agente en este grupo (Louzeau) y el descubrimiento de la corrupción y falta de moralidad dentro del grupo que debe reprimir todo esto.

Al bij het eerste deel was duidelijk dat dit geen standaard verhaal is maar het afsluitende deel heeft me toch enkele keren verrast : enerzijds hard realistisch en ontnuchterend, anderzijds vol poëzie en dromerige schoonheid. Zidrou heeft een bloedmooi verhaal geschreven, passend aangevuld met de treffende, oogstrelende illustraties van Jordi Lafebre.

Cette fois, ce second tome se focalise sur l'Occupation, et là encore l'ambiguité est le maître-mot. Cependant, la résolution du récit me laisse quelque peu sur ma faim, même si l'ensemble est de très bonne facture.

Sort de les il·lustracions, perquè la història perd el focus i es torna erràtica. De què vol parlar, exactament? Què ens vol explicar? Vol tocar massa temes i es dispersa.
