I AM SO IMPRESSED WITH THIS BOOK! Very rarely will I stay up to finish a book, this was an exception. I read this all in a single day and its ~400 pages. I couldn’t put it down. This is unlike any other werewolf book I have ever read and I love that. I plan on keeping this review very vague because I don’t want to ruin this for anyone else because my shock was real.

Every wolf has a mate and when they meet that mate is a known right down the second. Glowing on the wolf’s wrist, appears a countdown of when this fated moment will take place. All they know is when that countdown reaches zero, their lives will forever change.

✨ Well, this book officially kicked my reading slump to the curb! ✨
Countdown to the Chosen Wolf is a fun, easy-to-read shifter romance that sucked me in from the start. Once I started, I genuinely did not want to put it down! We follow Calla from age 5 all the way to 25, and I really enjoyed watching her grow and experience her journey through the years. The time jumps were well done and kept the pacing moving without feeling rushed.
Give me tension, yearning, drama, suspense, and characters I can actually connect with and I’m happy! This story also tackles some heavier mental health topics, giving it more depth than I expected. Even with the darker themes, I found myself smiling and laughing so many times because these characters just felt real.
I really loved this one and am looking forward to continuing the series. Definitely a good one for my fellow shifter romance lovers! 🐺 💚 💙 🐺

This is an actual ✨unique✨ spin on werewolves and fated mates.

If you love going on an emotional journey—as in, the rollercoaster of bliss and heart ache—this is for you. My heart HURTS for these characters. They’re beautifully and painfully relatable in their struggles, personalities, and in how they love.

I’d personally call it a slow burn. However, after a specific chapter, I stayed up until 5AM reading because I was hooked and needed to know how it ended.

I got to be an ARC reader for this book and let me tell you... This book completely pulled me in from the very beginning! The character development was phenomenal, and I found myself connecting with so many of the characters on different levels. They felt authentic, with strengths, flaws, and emotions that made me genuinely invested in their journey. The author captures real emotions and personal struggles that are relatable to many of us.

The drama was perfectly paced, with just the right amount of tension, emotion, and twists to keep me saying, "Just one more chapter." Every time I had to put the book down, I couldn't wait to pick it back up to see what happened next.

I loved that this wasn't your typical werewolf shifter novel. Sometimes those get too stale and predictable. But this one had me hooked.

If you're a fan of wolf shifter romance with well-developed characters, engaging storytelling, and enough drama to keep you hooked until the very end, I highly recommend giving this book a read. I can't wait to read book 2!

Okay, so I am not normally a paranormal/werewolf romance girlie, though I enjoy them from time to time. But let me just say, I enjoyed the heck out of this book! Once I started reading the arc, it only took me a few days to finish it because I was so into it.

YOU GOT ME IN THE FIRST HALF, K.K. You totally got me. That's all I'm gonna say without risking spoilers.

This is written almost like part one and part two of the same story: the before the countdown and the after. The before, especially the very beginning, was excellent, particularly when Calla and Rafe were kids. Watching them grow as friends was so sweet!

When the countdown gets closer, things get a little off the rails, but not in an unhinged way. Just trust me. The alcoholism and depression with the characters was handled thoughtfully and with care, and was very relatable.

The second part of the book was when I LOCKED IN.

Calla is such a relatable fmc, unable to relinquish control, doubting herself, not knowing exactly what she wants or needs ... girl, (sometimes) same. I love her.

My favorite character is a spoiler but I think most people will love them too. iykyk

Kate! Kate is a whole mood. LOVE HER.

I can't wait to read more in this series.

To say I loved this one is an understatement.

Written in two halves, pre Countdown and post Countdown this spicy romantasy has the reader compulsively turning pages, first as the numbers continuously decrease to zero, and then to see what choices Calla will make.

I don't think I could possibly hype this one up enough, the details in the first half, that become so important in the second half were so cleverly woven into what was a truly unique take on the genre of wolves and mates. I genuinely could not put this one down, I stayed up way past my bedtime two nights in a row because each chapter left me craving more. This was the exact book I needed in my life this week, and dare I say it, I think it's my new favourite romantasy.

I will be pre-ordering my own physical copy and also stalking when the next in the series is available.

One of my favorite reads of the year so far! Countdown to the Chosen Wolf is an engaging, character driven paranormal romance that really immerses you into the emotions and interpersonal struggles of the characters. I'm not normally one to enjoy werewolf romance, but I loved every aspect of this book!

Calla has been looking at her bright countdown on her wrist since she was five years old, impatient to find out more about her mate. Only she and her partner could see the countdown. She must wait until she gets 26 because that's when the countdown will reach zero and she will finally gets to meet him. Up to that point, she spends all of her time with Rafe, a boy who joined her pack when she was a seven years old and with whom she became best friends. Different things are occurring in her life and in her pack as time goes on.

Calla is a sweet, innocent and strong girl who has spent her entire life waiting for her mate. She is always fascinated in the countdown and wishes she has the same lovely and sweet bond as her parents.

Rafe is a tough, grumpy, and protective man who had a difficult life. His parents passed away at different stages in his life, which had a significant impact on how he lives. Countdown doesn't matter to him because he knows what he wants and will stop at nothing to get it.


K.K Salathe is a new author for me and I'm glad that I found her because she offered a new perspective on werewolf stories which captivated and fascinated me. It completely amazed me.
There are a lot of twists and turns and when I thought she finished with the twists, she gives another one.
I can say that Calla and her mate have a strong bond from the start, even though Calla needed some time to recover from some trauma and I liked how patient, understanding and caring her mate is with her.
I experienced a variety of emotions while reading this narrative, including laughter, giggles ,grief, happiness and tears.
There will be times when your heart will shatter.. so yes, you'll need some tissues.
The author does a fantastic job describing the interactions, events and actions.
Both Rafe's and Calla's characters growth are amazing.
I have a lot to say about this incredible book, but I don't want to give anything away.
I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

I am very thankful to K.K for sending me this book as an ARC. 🐺

Countdown to the Chosen Wolf was a true whirlwind of emotions. It kept me on the edge, and it was almost impossible to put down. A real page-turner. Once you will pick it up, you will be unable to stop. Each chapter brings more tension.

I felt the emotions so vividly, and it is very rare for newer authors to encapsulate emotions so skilfully.
K.K also used several advanced techniques, like dual POV and foreshadowing, which are very hard tools to use. I will say the author still has to work on those techniques for them to be smoother. Still, it was really impressive. 🌲

You never know where this book is going to lead you. The emotions, the feelings, the thoughts, the struggles are deep and you just feel like you’re in there, watching everything as it develops before your eyes.

I have loved this book deeply, flaws and all, and I can’t stress enough how much I think you should read it. Whether you’re new in wolf novels, or more advanced, this book will surely shake you as much as it did me. 🐺

I have to say I have been deeply saddened by Rafé’s fate. From beginning to end, that man had a really rough life. All he wanted was to be appreciated, surrounded, loved and secured. I really hope the next book in the series will bring him relief and rest.
Calla, despite being deeply lost in her feelings and anxiety, was sometimes really hard to like and a bit insufferable. But you have to understand her choices, cause despite being a wolf, she’s deeply human.

They both are.

This was a book where I thought I knew what was going to happen, then it didn't.

It was also a book where I found myself wanting to keep reading and how we were going to handle that or what was going to happen there.

I'm always a fan of shifters in the PNW so it was definitely a yes please for the ARC sign ups.

There pacing was good, just a few parts I felt it slow or jarring but otherwise it was great for the way the story is told. I think this is a perfect book if you want something different. It certainly has it's familiar genre type things but keeps you eager to find out what's next.

Im still a little newer to wolf shifter romances but the depth of the characters, their struggles, representation of mental health and hardship and the healing power that comes with genuine love are all done beautifully in this book!

Everything ties together in the end, which I LOVE! Little details that make me go OOOOOHHHH later are what really make a book absolutely fantastic!

If you’re wanting to get started and also love a mixed contemporary romance vibe, this is your go to read.

It was well written, engaging and fun. There were some dark moments in it, but life isn’t all sunshiny rainbows and I like to see resilience in characters. It makes them way more relatable and real. 🩷

At its heart, this is a story about deep family bonds, loyalty that can become toxic, betrayal, trust, and learning to submit to your own instincts.

Calla is fierce and independent, and despite knowing there’s a countdown toward meeting her mate, she needs to know that she still has a choice in how her life unfolds. Growing up alongside her moody childhood best friend Rafe and their close-knit friend group, they’ve always known that each of them has their own countdown to meeting their mate. But accepting and completing that bond isn’t nearly as straightforward as it seems, and the consequences can reach far beyond what either of them expects.

I really appreciated the emotional depth woven throughout this story. Although it’s a paranormal fantasy, there were moments that felt incredibly personal and authentic, particularly in the way the author explored declining mental health, how easily it can go unnoticed until it’s almost too late, and how important hope, support, and having someone who sees you can be.

The story also does a beautiful job showing that loyalty and love can be complicated. Betrayal can leave wounds, forgiveness can be difficult, and scars become reminders of choices that could have gone differently.

I especially loved Calla’s determination to follow what felt right even when she didn’t understand why. And as she discovers, love and connection aren’t always immediate or simple. Sometimes they unfold piece by piece, in ways you never expected.

And my favourite quote? “I could drown in you.” Swooooon 🥹

Overall, this was a 4½-star read for me. I think the author has created a world with so much potential, and I’d love to see this series continue and explore some of the other characters we’ve been introduced to. There are definitely more stories here waiting to be told!

Whenever I paused to do something else I was looking forward to the next time I could read it. This doesn’t happen very often for me, so I’m very happy the author was able to invoke such excitement in me. She has a writing style that is very to-the-point and yet descriptive. You’re given what you need to know about the scene and the characters for it to make sense and to build the story. I personally like that because I can use my imagination for the rest of it. She wrote such a delightful and real-feeling FMC. I like that she’s not perfect and she makes mistakes then learns from them. She’s human (haha, kinda) and she is okay with that. She is very loyal and strong and has many traits I think readers can empathize with. The plot developed very evenly and at a medium pace that was neither too fast nor too slow. I personally like this pacing because it feels like the sweet spot of keeping everything moving but also sitting with the vibes. However, I don’t like when in a shifter book, such as werewolves, the wolf side has their own thoughts and feelings. They are a separate being in the same body and I think it’s odd and very off putting. Especially in romantic relationships where you’d think it’s just the two of them but it’s actually four “people” because they all have their own feelings about everything. That’s not a criticism of the book though, it’s just mentioning that’s how the werewolves operate in this world and that it’s not my personal favorite.
Countdown to the Chosen Wolf is a great book for those in the mood for a werewolf book with a mix of light-hearted fun and serious feels. The romance is adorable and swoony and the characters are loveable. Would recommend.

I initially had a hard time getting into this book during the first few chapters, but once I got going, I couldn’t stop!

I loved the dual POV. It kept me emotionally invested and constantly theorizing about how everything was going to play out. There were definitely moments where I felt a little emotional whiplash with some of the relationships and found myself torn between what I wanted to happen and what I was curious to see unfold. There were also some BIG red flags along the way, but as more of the story was revealed, certain characters and their actions became a lot more layered than I initially expected.

I really loved the patience and understanding within the romance and watching Calla slowly be pushed outside of her comfort zone without feeling forced. The relationship development really grew on me as the story progressed.

Overall, this ended up being such an addictive read once it got going. It kept me emotionally invested, questioning characters and their motivations, and constantly wanting to know what was coming next. I can’t wait to read the next books!

I received an advanced copy from the author. While I think there is potential, this book fell short for me in a couple of areas. I think shifter books are very hard to get right, but this one felt like the shifter aspect wasn’t needed or utilized, it really drove more into a contemporary romance for me. While I think the first 40% mirrored the push/ pull between the 2 main characters, I lost a bit of steam.

That being said, I think this author has a lot of potential to build upon this world and its characters and really capitalize on the shifter characteristics and mentalities.

If you’re new to werewolf romance this is a good starter to get into the genre !

I was very excited for this book but sadly the plot and the way the characters were portrayed was not what I hoped.
I felt the first half of the book was a lot of filler. And as they grew and aged it’s like the people they were just changed and not as in character growth, but for the worst. Even with the countdown I was rooting for Calla and Rafé, whether it was friendship or more. But tuning Rafé to an unhinged character and making Calla so unfeeling about the person she grew up with and best friend made me really dislike where the plot was going. DNFed at 74%.

While not a book I would normally pick up, K.K. Salathe has a knack for subtle character development many other authors lack. Her characters breathe, her depiction of mental illness is true to reality without becoming pathetic or self-pitying. The pacing is on the slower side, but picks up significantly about halfway through. By that point, I couldn't put it down--it's worth the initial crawl.

Overall, a fantastic start to the series. I'm excited to see what Salathe has in store for these characters, and know we'll get a beautiful redemption arc for my favorite. I feel it in my bones.

I had such a fun time reading Countdown to the Chosen Wolf. The story follows Calla and Rafé, childhood best friends, as they grow up and figure out life while they wait to meet their mates. As werewolves they have a countdown that counts down the time until they meet the person who is perfect for them. If only we all had that!

Obviously there are a few bumps and twists along the way, and the story looks at fate vs free will in a fun new way.

If you enjoy romance books with the added coolness of werewolves, this book is for you!

I got an advance copy before publication, and I'm so happy I did. This was everything I needed in an end of summer read that I didn't know I was looking for.

I am SUCH a sucker for fated mates, and this werewolf romance had such a fresh and interesting take on the trope that I love so much. It was an emotional roller coaster in the best way possible, and the build-up is so worth the pay off in the end.

If you like werewolf romances and fated mates, do yourself a favour and pick up a copy of this book!

This story put a new spin on fated mates. The FMC knows she has a fated mate, knows when she’ll meet them. But not who they are until the countdown reaches zero.
The MMC is a dark & broody character, who becomes possessive of the FMC.
I liked how the book portrays the struggle with grief this is an element all through.
I did keep wondering what I’d find the disequilibrium, there were a few points where I thought ok this is it & then it seemed to resolve. Perhaps that’s on my & what I usually read.
Overall this felt cozy & sweet with a few darker elements.

This book is the kind of book that you just can’t put down. I love the unique take on the werewolves and fated mate genre! It was like a breath of fresh air. I also LOVE the women in STEM representation. It was also nice to not have a romance with the FMC freshly 18.

However, please take the trigger warnings seriously. I did have to put the book down a couple times and regroup.

Overall, it was a well written and well paced book, and although it was predictable, I enjoyed immensely!

However I feel like the timing was a bit off (took too long for the countdown to go to zero) and too much time was spent on Rafe being abusive and controlling than was necessary for the story. It started to feel pretty uncomfortable to me that his behaviour lasted for so many years.
