a great tale
If you like space pirates and dare I say knife weilding cyborgs you’re gonna love this story. Another awesome fast paced joyride from this author. You will not be disappointed.

The story starts with an attempt on the life of a VIP princess guest on the maiden voyage of a brand new luxury spaceship. On Alex’s first cruise as a Security Officer with the line, he’s thrown right into the line of fire. Before he even has a chance to unpack, he’s assigned to the security detail of Princes Dophena, when she gets attacked by a killer robot bird. The second storyline follows an attack on the President’s shuttle, leaving her and her team, some of whom are injured, stranded in the wilderness.
Both stories are somewhat slow to start, without much of backstory or insights into the characters. Alex goes from one emergency to the next, getting injured and then thrown right back into the next attack. There isn’t much time spent on the details of the investigation into the attack on the princess. It gets resolved in the last few pages of the book without the enjoyment of seeing the clues revealed a bit at a time. The characters remain fairly flat, without much depth or development. I would have like to learn more than the little bits and pieces we get fed near the end, as if it were an afterthought.
Both storylines are left on a big cliffhanger, to be continued presumably in the next volume. I’m left feeling like the whole book was a long prologue for the next book in the series. It’s an easy read and fun if you’re looking for an action-packed space sci-fi story, but I’m not sure I found it interesting enough to entice me to read the next one.

I was so excited to see another sci-fi read from this author and was delighted that it continues within the same world but with new characters and starting 2 centuries after the previous series ended. Unfortunately, this was a major disappointment. I simply couldn't connect with Alex or Grace, the two main characters of this story. What mystifies me is that the characters are well created. The disconnect comes from some arbitrary decision the author made to interweave the two characters' storylines, which ended up breaking the flow of each story, totally ruining the tempo, and constantly cutting to the other character right when I was about to care about one of them. And then it ends on a major cliffhanger. So frustrating!
I honestly think I could have loved this if Alex's story had been coherently conveyed in a "part 1" and Grace's in "part 2". With Grace's ending there is a cliffhanger, but it's nowhere near as bad as what the book ends on with Alex.
Anyways, I guess it's bound to happen sometimes even with authors whose prior books we love. *sigh*

Just a quick review for one of my favorite authors, Adrian Murphy. This time it's a sci-fi thriller series coming from the pen of Mr. Murphy, and it promises to be a wild ride.
The Planet Queen is an interstellar cruise ship shuttling passengers from all walks of life across the multiverse, but it's no love boat. A ruthless assassin is seeking to kill Princess Dophena, who's traveling incognito on a covert mission. Alex Chadwick is the green recruit assigned to guard her. But can this space-sick newbie with little experience succeed in his duty while struggling to impress a distant overbearing father?
That's the central dramatic question that drives this novel. As usual with Mr. Murphy's work, there's plenty of action, intrigue and snappy dialogue in the writing, as well as tons of classic sci-fi tropes, from artifical intelligence to androids to space pirates and more. This was a fun read and I'm looking forward to the sequel.

I enjoyed this book. Personal preferences, I didn't care for some of the sexual innuendo (but it is very clean) and not a huge fan of the characters questioning potential outcomes or reasonings so much in order to drive the plot. But the story moved at a face pace and two primary story arcs that are clearly tied together are told quite well and I like the protagonists and several secondary characters. Can't wait for the next book to find out what happens!

This is a great story. It's a fantastic series starter. The characters are realistic and interesting. There's plenty of action, which I love. The storyline is fast moving and thrilling. This is the second series I've read stories from, both set in the same "multiverse." If you like SF you will like this story.

This will hold your interest. A good read with unexpected turns is always want I want to read and this book does not disappoint. The only downside was that it ended but more good news, i am sure there will be more!
