I’m a big fan of the blood witch series and was so excited to see another installment come out. Here we follow Barbara and Trent’s daughter—the one we’ve been waiting for all this time. The story surrounding her is interesting, though I do feel like I needed to reread the previous books again to fully appreciate the little nuances throughout this book.

Gretchen is a headstrong and rather extreme protagonist, but she is afterall the bloodwitch. We follow her through several different storylines, all interesting—but by the last one I did start wonder why we didn’t simply start there. Otherwise, the ending provides a bit of an opening for the next installment, which is great news for all of us who love these books!.

This is book 8 in the Dawn of the Blood Witch series. The book is broken down into three Parts and has a total of 18 Chapters. I tried to read books 1-7 prior to reading this book but they were not available on KU so I did not read them.

While the writing of this book is superb, as typical of the author, without reading the previous books, I don’t quite understand the storyline (and that’s totally on me). When I signed up for the ARC, I didn’t realize it was so far into a series.

The characters were interesting, even if I detested a young Gretchen. I did wonder about Finn after they left for San Francisco and whether she survived or not. The witchcraft angle was interesting but fairly typical to tie it into heavy metal and satanic rituals for the non-gifted characters.

I don't know where to start with this book. I have sat here for about five minutes staring at the wall, I couldn't wait to finish it to find out what happens and now that it's done..... I want to jump right back in and find Gretchen. We need to hang out some more so I can see where she goes next. Her story was definitely a wild ride. I cringed, laughed and cried with this book and I absolutely loved every minute of it! Can't recommend it enough.

I absolutely loved this book.

Maria as an author has a talent to fully immerse you in the story so you never truly feel like you’re reading a book.

This book was CRAZY in the best way. The book follows Gretchen, who is absolutely insane, we get to see her grow and evolve and hone in on the crazy to become who she’s meant to be.

I could not put this book down.
You do not have to read books 1-7 first as they are standalone, I’m reading them backward but if you’re looking for your next read and craving something dark with minimal spice, this book is for you!.
