Darcy and Jon are finally married and heading to Australia for their honeymoon.
A whole week in Tasmania staying at the Pine Lake Inn with nothing to do but act like tourists. No ghosts to deal with. No mysteries to solve. Just rest and relaxation. It will be a welcome change having nothing to worry about.
That is until they actually arrive at their destination.
They find that three people have died just recently under suspicious circumstances and a fourth has just been released from hospital. That is definitely something to worry about.
The local police department doesn't seem too worried about it though so it's up to Darcy and Jon to figure it all out.
Will they be able to catch a killer in their midst before the unknown person strikes again?
I'm very disappointed with this book. The author had a chance to showcase our wonderful country (as much as she could in a cosy mystery) and completely blew it! It felt totally geared towards an American audience in a REALLY bad parody of Crocodile Dundee that made us look like in-bred yokels (or should that be boguns!) Nobody uses that amount of slang, and if they did they'd be complete d@#*heads.(We're more likely to say that than drongo!) I spent so much time cringing at what was written that it was hard to focus on the story. I found that so much of the story was focused on mass generalisations that the plot suffered immensely and seemed all over the place, the ending feeling very rushed. As anybody who has read my reviews of the Darcy Sweet series knows, they are my favourite cosy mysteries and I feel the author K.J. Emrick has let her readers down with this title; I know she is capable of far better. To add insult to injury, the author is actually Australian. :'(
I usually like the books of this series but as an Australian all I could do when reading the speech of the Australian characters was to cringe. It was as if the author had read a book on Australian slang and was determined to use every word of slang ever listed. People in Southern Tasmanian would not use the expression "crocs in a lake" as crocodiles are only found in the northern regions of Australia. Most Australians don't use a lot of slang in everyday situations. All I can say about this book was cringe worthy.
Agree with two other reviewers about how this book made me cringe. This book is so colourless it could be set anywhere in the world.
It is difficult to believe the author lives in Australia as she does not appear to understand Australian slang, idioms, phrases or anything about Australia. The characters are more like caricatures.
While reading this author's work I've overlooked the bad grammar, inconsistencies in plot etc but will do so no longer.
Wow, trouble finds Darcy and Jon where ever they go, even on their honeymoon. Can they figure out is there really someone killing people in their quaint little Austrailian village? Can they stop them before there is more death? And whats this at the end? Gotta keep reading to find out.
Darcy and Jon seem to have trouble find them anywhere. Even in a small town in Tasmania, (thank you K.J. for including the absolutely best and pretties state in Australia). With only a short stay our intrepid duo solve one crime and witness another.
The only thing worse than being dragged to a wedding in a cozy mystery is being dragged along on the honeymoon. UGH, ICK, I DON'T NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY TIMES THEY GOT IT ON! More mystery and less love making. I still don't like her husband, and I'm never going to!
What to do when you're at the beach and have read all the books you brought along? Easy--download a quick, fun mystery onto your Kindle! Since I'm a total lightweight when it comes to murder mysteries, I stay clear of most to that genre. Books with gritty, gruesome details and too real killers give nightmares for days! But I do love a good mystery! These lighthearted, mystery/romance books are perfect for me! Yes, sometimes the plot can be a bit predictable, but that's OK for a beach read. At under 200 pages, this was a quick fun read. I enjoyed this book, especially the setting in Australia. The characters were well developed and added quite a bit of humor to the story. As a Kindle read, it was good!
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Jon and Darcy head off to Australia on their honeymoon and within two days solves two crimes. I enjoyed learning some Aussie slang. In this book we meet Dell and Rosie, owners of the Pine Lake Inn. Pay attention as it looks like their story is going to branch out into a series of its own!
I can't wait to read another Darcy Sweet book. I have read all of them so far. Never a disappointment. So much mystery. Always keeps you guessing thru the whole book. If you want to read a good mystery that leaves you wanting more read this series. You will be glad you did.
Another great Darcy Sweet mystery! This one takes place Down Under, where Darcy and Jon have gone on honeymoon. Lots of crazy action, and the introduction of some new characters which rumor has it will become a spin-off series of it's own... A great read, with much left for future development - both back home in Misty Hollow and Down Under! Highly recommended!
Disclosure: I received this book free of charge from the publisher. This review is my honest opinion, and is in no way influenced by the author or publisher.
I love that this adventure took Darcy to Australia. It was nice to see her spend some time away from Misty Hollow. Can't eat to see what is next.
I enjoyed this book very much. She is an excellent writer. I love reading her stories because they are full of interesting and enjoyable characters. Would recommend it to anyone.
