Kyle Mewburn is an amazingly versatile and prolific author who has written many picture books including the award-winning Old Hu-Hu (NZ Post Book of the Year 2010) and Kiss! Kiss! Yuck! Yuck! (NZ Post Picture Book Award winner 2007), as well as the junior chapter books Do Not Push and four titles in the super-popular (and super-gross!) Dinosaur Rescue series.

Born in Brisbane, Australia, Kyle now lives in Millers Flat in Central Otago, New Zealand.

From the kiwi dynamic duo of Kyle Mewburn and Donovan Bixley comes a new series about a shapeshifting boy called Merek. He has been practising for weeks for the Knight School tryouts and is nearly late for the beginning of the trials. Three medieval toffs (boys) blocked his way. He had to keep his temper or the unthinkable might happen - he'd turn into a dragon!
He makes the trials and they don't go as well as planned - but he does make a new friend. His day goes from bad to worse and the story bends back around to where it began - with Merek clinging to a burning castle tower. You'll have to read it to find out how he ended up there....

This story is non-stop action and laughs and interspersed with hilarious 'info sections' for the 6-9 yr old reader. These include pages titled, The top 3 reasons why people don't live in swamps, The 5 most fearfully feared medieval fears, and many more.

I like their Dinosaur Rescue series, but I think I've going to like Dragon Knight ever better.

Brilliant!!!!! A hilarious read filled with fantasticly funny illustrations by the awesome Donovan Bixley, and all sorts of 'factual' (well kind of) information about life in medieval times.

Book one of a series about a shape shifting dragon who disguises himself as a knight! This book set up the series with clear cut black hat and white hat sides, or maybe black helmet and white helmet to fit the time period, whatever the case there was a clear demarcation between who was meant to be the good guys and who was meant to be the bad guys,
Some amusing parts, and an engaging story make this one entertaining and worth pursuing the series.

Прекрасний початок чудової серії для маленьких лицарів (або драконів). У найкращих традиціях фентезі, ця історія відбувається у декораціях альтернативного Середньовіччя, де одна маленька родина драконів відчайдушно намагається вижити у вороже до них налаштованому світі. Дракони певним чином стали жертвами поганої репутації, на яку аж ніяк не заслужили, бо насправді воліють харчуватися смаженими козами, а не людьми. Проте сила упереджень страшна, тож наш юний герой Мерек та його батьки змушені приховувати від усіх своє справжнє єство. На щастя, вони вміють набувати подоби різних істот, у тому числі людей. Щоправда, коли вони хвилюються, їм складно підтримувати личину і це без сумніву стане джерелом багатьох халеп для Мерека. У першому томі автори знайомлять нас із цим цікавим світом та Школою лицарів, у якій понад усе прагне навчатися Мерек. Хоча початок навчання пройшов у нього не дуже гладко, він уже завів собі і друга, і ворога.

The humour in these books is a lot of fun. Kyle Mewburn really makes his books very relatable, dealing with bullying and friendships in a way that is neither heavy-handed or preachy. Providing insights for children that they will value, the Dragon Knight series is very funny, original and clever. The plots really drive you on with excitement and suspense, a rarity in readers at this level.
