~ARC Review ~ Brillant. Insanely Incredible. I'm not even sure how to recover at this point 😳. I finished this at 2:30 in the morning because who needs sleep. I don't know who the villain is. I don't know where Harvey is. I have so many questions. We've got a missing father, a dead mother, some sketchy memories, a lovable bestie, a golden retriever love interest, a dark & broody love interest, and a girl who is quite literally caught in the middle of....well everything. I just need to know why we're putting poor Maddie through so much. She is stubborn & headstrong in the best way but she has zero luck on her side. I love that she has Penny though who doesn't hesitate to be at her side no matter the situation even if it sounds crazy. This isn't just a ghosty romance. This is grief, trauma, secrets, betrayals, plot twists, & an entire day of locking yourself in your room with coffee to survive. That then ends with you staring at a wall while avoiding the urge to throw something. I need answers to so many things right now 😭. My brain has been permanently altered & I need someone to come reset it for me. If I could choose one book to force everyone to read. This would 100% be it. ♾️ Stars 1000/10

I finished reading this in the early hours of the morning wanting to throw my kindle across the room because WHY?! The cliffhanger has me in knots. It was destructive. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I picked this up but I’m so incredibly happy I did. Maddie’s entire backstory is essentially almost a mystery even to herself and yet she’s trying to navigate these secrets and conflict while she is lost and looking for someone or something to give her purchase. I got caught between these characters and even I’m uncertain who or what is going to be the ultimate antagonist because everything and everyone seems to be against our FMC. It is such an incredible ride to go on though; so many unexpected twists, and characters who I still can’t fully figure out (missing people, who is the end game love interest?). You’ll be left with questions (I’m waiting for a chat to open up so I can ask the void some of my own), but the gnawing feeling is truly the best because it’s such a testament to good writing. I literally cannot wait for the rest to reveal itself in the next book. Dying in anticipation!
How do I recover from this? I'm absolutely shook after that ending. I'm sitting here with no words—just raw emotion.
Penny is the kind of best friend everyone wishes they had: fiercely loyal, charismatic, and impossible not to love. And Ford? I adore everything about him... even if I wanted to shake him a few times for being so cautious and hesitant.
But Maddy and Heaton completely stole my heart. Their chemistry is magnetic—so electric it practically vibrates off every page. Every interaction left me wanting more.
The town itself felt like a character, rich with atmosphere, emotion, and drastic contrasts. You can feel the mystery woven through every chapter, balanced by frustration-filled banter, fleeting moments of hope, flashes of grief, and the irresistible pull between fire and ice.
I have so many unanswered questions, and I already know the wait for Book 2 is going to feel endless. If this is only the beginning, I cannot wait to see where this story goes next!!
Reading this author feels like discovering a musician before they top the charts. I’m genuinely amazed by how much depth and complexity they weave into their characters while still telling a story that’s easy to follow.
The ending absolutely wrecked me—in the best way possible. It left me desperate for the next book.
Madeline is just as much in the dark about her past as she is her future. And honestly, by the end of the book, so are we. Where is her father, Harvey? Who can we actually trust? And what does this soul bond truly mean for Maddie?
The only thing worse than having all of these unanswered questions is having to go back to the mundanity of real life, dentist appointments, work, laundry, and pretend I’m not emotionally devastated by a group of fictional characters.
When I was staring at the wall after finishing this book at 3 am I was almost mad that I got it early tbh.. lol because WHAT!! The amount of questions I have are crazyyyyyyy. I absolutely devoured this book, it was so so good! The bubbly friend? The slight love triangle? The broody ghost? Where is her dad?? Just omg love love love! Anyway my review does not do this book justice.. PLEASE go read it!
Easiest 5 stars I've ever given. Hands down a new favorite of mine.
Lawson has a way with words that is absolutely addictive and delicious. This story was a masterpiece from start to finish. I am obsessed. Book 2 cannot come soon enough.
I connected to these characters so quickly and I am sad the story ended already. I need to read it again.
I have found a new favorite author and a new favorite book of 2026. A must read!!!!
