Rough Harmony #1

Raw Notes, Rough Nights

Rate this book
Theo Sinclair lives his life in perfect harmony—controlled, careful, and tightly wound—until his best friend’s brother moves in and wrecks the rhythm.

Theo has everything he needs: a stable job in IT, and singing in his all-gay a cappella group Rough Harmony. He doesn’t do chaos, feelings, or anything that threatens the control he’s fought to rebuild. That includes forbidden boys with pretty eyes.

When Cameron Walters gets evicted, his brother innocently suggests he crashes on Theo’s couch. Theo—the guy Cameron’s been crushing on since he was sixteen, which is probably why Cameron has never been with a guy, and why he says yes in a heartbeat.
Okay, it’s not Theo’s bed, but it’s a start.
Stolen glances. Loaded silences. And Theo, unravelling.

Theo is terrified of making another mistake. Falling for your best friend’s brother? That’s not just messy, it’s a betrayal.
An explosive kiss sends them reeling. Theo needs to decide: does he run, or risk everything for a chance at harmony?

Theo doesn’t think he’s into kink—or letting go. Cameron is about to challenge both.

Control doesn’t always mean captivity.
Sometimes, for a man who’s held on too tight for too long, surrender is freedom.
The kind of control that makes you beg for more.

High heat. Consent. Trust. All the feels.

Best friend’s brother • Forced proximity • Friends to lovers
Control freak learning surrender • Consensual power exchange that changes everything.
First love • Found family • High-heat MM romance
This is the beginning of Rough Harmony, and once it starts, you won’t want it to stop.

I absolutely LOVED this book. My new favorite from KC. Cameron and Theo and their all-gay a cappella group that has just come together now have me wondering what will happen next and to whom.

So. This book. Let's talk tropes. We have brother’s best friend, forced proximity, friends to lovers, all three done so well. From Cameron needing a place to stay to Theo doing his bestie (Cameron's brother, of course) a solid, to these two living together, their friendship to tension to inevitable romantic/collision, I was glued to EVERY WORD.

The character building, the depth, just reeled me in. Cameron, the twenty-two-year-old that is wiser than his years. Twenty-two? Could have fooled me. Love how he knows what and who he wants, love the maturity he shows when he struggles to come to terms with and help Theo in the ways he needs, how he puts Theo first when he needs to but still takes care of himself. The way he stands up to his brother. Love it and him. Theo and his issues with control, lack of control. His history, how that leads to the eventual power exchange between the two. His anxiety and shame, the cracks in his armor, his inability to believe the best in himself or anyone. His fear to hope for love and/or a future. So. Well. Done. And the emotion, so much emotion. I could not put this down.

And let's talk about the a capella group, which is the very best bunch of supporting characters. They're new, just come together. There's light friendship, banter, fun and funny moments, and you can feel they're on the way to becoming found family. There are jokes, but never mean-spirited; their hearts are in the right place. I'm so curious to see where this goes next and who is going to get their man next.

So, back to the MMCS. Yes, I love them both. Cam is so, so, so sweet, but THEO. My heart is with Theo. So broken, shattered, even. And the healing, learning, growing, and Cam's role in it made for a long journey (yes this is a big book), but it did not feel long at all. The HEA is so worth the bumps and tears (yes, there were tears), and even the eventual explosion when Cam's brother found out was wonderfully done.

Highly recommend, and absolutely cannot wait for the next one in this series.

When I read the prequel I was wondering who of the large group of strong characters will be the first to fall. I must admit, I didn't expect Theo.

Like with other books by K.C. Wells, you are on a roller coaster trip of emotions. She doesn't write fluff or simple, she writes men whose story will leave you as raw as they feel and where you feel you want to take and ensure them that everything will be alright.

Theo has so much to unpack, to unlearn, a lifetime of conditioning that feeling is wrong, that control is the only thing that counts and that he will only hurt others when he gives in to his desires.

But with Cameron he met his match, the little brother of his best friend, the boy who had a crush on him has grown up and needs to stay with him. And little by little Cameron is dismantling the wall, pulling back the armour, sees Theo and is there to help when Theo realises what he needs and how to achieve it. He is a lot more mature than you would expect from a 22 year old.

Theo's journey is sometimes hard to read, you want to crawl into the story and hit some people. And it's not a fast journey, the book is 400 pages and they are all needed to tell the story.

The guys from Rough Harmony are causing plenty of funny scenes but small bits are starting to emerge which hopefully mean more books to come.

Raw Notes Rough Nights by K.C. Wells is about Theo, who tried to control his life as tightly as possible because of his past and with his IT job and his all gay a cappella group he thinks it’s going great. Cameron, his best friend’s little brother, needs a place to stay and throws that all up in the air as Theo has had a crush on Cameron for quite a few years and he is not sure he can keep it hidden. Cameron has been in love with Theo for as long as he can remember and living with him is going to test every bit of strength he has to not act on it. But as time goes by Theo finally finds he can breathe with Cameron and just be himself and Cameron is happy he found the one he wants and will wait forever until he has him. This is the first book in K.C’s new series Rough Harmony and it is a great start to this series between the tension of Cameron and Theo and also the practice for the singing group. The love each has for one another and learning that it’s ok to not be perfect even when everything tells you to be. I cannot wait for the next story, each installment is with a different couple.

I read the prequel novella for this series (Rough Harmony same as the series title) and it was fantastic. You don’t need to read that before Raw Notes but I suggest doing so because it gives you insight into the characters who will each get their own book.

Theo is always in control and not always in a good way. When his best friend’s younger brother comes to stay with him he’s afraid he will lose that control because he’s lusted after Cameron for too long. Cameron has wanted Theo to be his first and hasn’t dated many other guys because Theo is who he’s wanted since he was a teenager and realized he’s gay.

This story is hot and it stirred up all of my emotions. Theo’s ex really did a number on him and Cameron is determined to make him forget all of the bad stuff and show him that submitting can be freeing.

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

I enjoyed getting Theo and Cameron’s story. This book is full of intense emotions and is a hot read. These two are good together and watching their relationship take shape made for a great read. The author has created a wonderful world with strong characters.
Theo has lived his life as rigid as can be, he has learned what he needs to survive. When Cameron reenters his life everything changes. Cameron sees the true Theo and is ready to stand by Theo no matter what. It was nice to see the support and understanding that Cameron shows but will it be enough? Their journey is full of ups and downs and will test everything that they feel for each other. I was pulled in to their story right from the start and engaged all the way to the end and has me eager to return and see who will find their person next.

Raw Notes, Rough Nights is the first book in the Rough Harmony series by K.C. Wells.
This is a good start to the series. We meet Theo and Cameron in the prequel, Rough Harmony. Cameron needs a place to stay, his brother suggests he stays with Theo, not knowing about the quiet passion simmering between the two. Cameron has been crushing on Theo since forever. Theo is attracted to his best friend’s brother but is afraid of making a mistake. Now that he is in his sphere Cameron is determined to make the best of his opportunity. Cameron is determined to show Theo it is okay to love their way. That there is freedom in control. Loving this series. Can’t wait for the next book.

Kind of intense. Theo has had terrible luck with his parents and then his former boyfriend. Cameron has to work to help him. They are good together. Enjoy the whole singing group- fun guys! Pretty emotional I thought the nude painting was a little too much.
