Every soul is weighed in the end. Hers will tip the scales.
The trials are ending whether she is ready or not.
Ten years in Damnation, two beings who have shaped her more than any trial. One built her a shelter out of silence and comfort, but the silence is about to break with everything he did not say. One taught her to survive everything Damnation could try to break her with—except him. Both are waiting at the end of this road.
And beneath the grief, beneath the wrath, the last ember of Mary's soul is fading. Damnation is watching. Everything she ever was is about to be tested.
Who will she be when she stands before her final judgment?
I write The Soul Trials, a dark fantasy series about damnation, survival, and the cost of love. My stories center on fractured identities, morally gray protectors, and the kind of sibling bond that refuses to fade, even after death.
I’m drawn to characters pushed to their limits and the emotional consequences of power, judgment, and obsession. I like my fantasy layered, intense, and a little unforgiving. I’m especially drawn to layered characters and stories that leave a mark long after the final page, and I hope my series will do the same.

I will forever love Mary and this journey she treads for the judgement of her soul. She’s so authentically human. Her interactions with every person, whether it be with rage or with love, chiseled their way through my heart. That ending hurt so much but also, I have to be happy in spite of it. 😭
As a whole, this series is unique in the sense that it’s more about the characters and their morality rather than a fast-paced, complex plot. It is woven very well. I loved it!
Mary has a chance to take out Amaris in the temple, but she decides not to, and says that Amaris can have the kingdom. With Amaris in charge, the people are starving for food. She goes to maybe save Elías, but he’s happy with people who love him. When she comes back to the city, Mary has to wear a mask so people don’t see who she is, because they think it’s her fault that people are having a hard time in the kingdom. At this point she’s just letting time pass with Maren and Azel, waiting for the 10-year trial to end. Since the people don’t like Mary at first all three of them live in a house Maren finds. Then a bit later they find a cave to live in, so these people don’t bother them. Will Mary find her sister finally after the trials end? Will Valerio make an appearance in this book, and possibly redeem himself? You’ll have to read to find out. Wow I did not see that part coming, then the next part as well 🤯 There were a couple of twists I didn’t see coming in this book. There were parts that made me happy, parts that shocked me, and some things that made me sad. All in all this was a fantastic ending to a great series. I like stories about angels, demons, and trials. This book series gives you a great story about living through your circumstances. It was done really well. I did throughly enjoy this book. This book was the perfect end to this series.
The Judgment of a Soul is the final (?) book in the Trials of a Soul series, and after the brutal books 1-3, I had to know how it ended. The series as a whole is so beautifully written and so detailed in the descriptions that the level of discomfort I felt reading what Mary went through was palpable. The whole series is melancholy. Mary didn't deserve what she got, and from the very start in book 1 we saw corruption in the way souls were being judged. Finally, in book 4, she gets to set things right. While the ending was satisfying in a way, it was also heartbreaking. I wanted so much for our favorite side characters to get happiness, you know our poor baby Azel with one wing and Maren really showed he had a lot of depth! But I suppose in a way they got it. Mary got what she deserved all along, but the ending was still sad. But we got a little glimpse into a possible book 5/spin off? I gotta know what Valerio does! Mary's entire journey through the underworld trials is nothing but pain and suffering, and yet her soul remains kind and just. Then getting to read Azel's journal at the end, wow. So much guilt and love to carry for cycles. I'm glad I read these, but they did leave my heart heavy.
I have cried, I have laughed, I have kicked my feet in the air giggling and now I am devastated.
This book was everything and yet not enough at the same time. However, it had the most satisfactory ending. Even better than I could have imagined.
I have been following this series for a while now and I can confidently say that K. Loral, does not disappoint. Whether you're a Valerio girl or an Azel one, this book is going to break you and even then you won't be able to make yourself hate it. It has everything but leaves you with nothing by the time you complete this series and I absolutely loved that. I cannot love this book more. If you're reading this coming straight from book one - you don't even know what you're in for.
All I have to say is Maren and Elias are sweethearts and I love them. And if I could, I would leave everything else to read this book for the first time once more.
