Okay something fishy is going on here...
I've read a handful of Liz Archer's books. Around seven I think, before this. Some were decent, most were more smut than substance. Which I don't mind when it's done well. Hers usually aren't. There are usually typos, continuity errors, and one of my biggest pet peeves - superfluous repetitive writing.
For example, something like: She's a goddess. The woman I've waited my life for. The one who compares to no other. She's rearranged my world with just a smile. I'm gonna give her everything...the world, the moon. the sun. I'll make it so she never stops smiling. I know I just met her, but I already know I love her. She is my everything now. She's perfection.
(By the way that was just some crap I made up not actually a quote from one of her books)
Now imagine inner monologues that go on like that for paragraphs every few pages. It's just shallow bullshit fluff. And extremely annoying to me.
With that foundation laid, let's get back to this book. I read the blurb thought it was interesting, decided to start it but if it was crappy I would drop it. Let me just say this...I was sucked in from the get-go. The writing was great. The dialogue was sparkling. The characters had depth. I was entranced. This was a 500+ page book I would have read in one sitting if I hadn't started so late at night. I actually stayed up so late I cancelled an appointment the next day so I could sleep in and then get up and finish it, lol.
I'm not saying it was perfect, but to me it was fantastic. One of the best Bratva/Mafia books I've read in years.
Lord let me not forget about the spicy cooking going on either. It will be four years next month that I became a widow. This is the FIRST book since then to make me actually get hot and bothered. The schmexy times were blazing hot and intense. Off. The. Charts.
Y'all I even had things I highlighted in the bonus downloadable epilogue. Since they won't show up in Goodreads I'll add them here.

As I was reading this, I kept thinking 'wow, this is so good,' I'm so surprised. Telling myself I don't remember her being this good. I even had the thought that the other books I read must have been older books from when she was a newer author. So, at the end of this one when it recommended another story, I grabbed it, hopeful for more magic.
I was severely disappointed. It was the same crapola like the previous books of hers I read. Again, I thought this must be one of her older books. So, I go and check to see when these books were published. This one just got released a couple days ago and the other way crappier book was released LAST MONTH.
Now my BS radar is set off.
How do you go from being a 2.5-star writer to a five-star writer in the span of less than a month?!
The answer is you don't.
(I even looked to see if I could find info of an editor/new editor and couldn't find anything.)
Also, this book was significantly longer than her normal ones. By around 200 pages. The structure, the character banter, the descriptors of surroundings - everything was night and day. Like a completely different author. A much better author.
Which leads me to this. I know a lot of authors are upset and putting messages in their books about the rise of AI; about continuing to support real authors and that writing is an artform that should be preserved. But I've got to say, if this was written in some way with AI, I might be choosing team AI. This was definitely the best book of hers I've read.
I will end with this. If this just so happens to be a story the author was working on longer behind the scenes of the other books, then my advice for Ms. Archer would be to put all your focus on this type of book/writing. In my humble opinion quality, even if it takes longer to put out a book, is definitely better than quantity. I grew up reading Johanna Lindsey and most years she only put out two books, sometimes one. Almost every one of her books was a New York Times #1 bestseller. Just saying.

This is how it is with us now. Touches in passing. His hand at the small of my back when I move past him. My fingers through his hair while he reads in the evening. The quiet, constant physical language of two people who have spent enough years choosing one another that the choice has sunk into muscle.

She is excited to meet her future in laws, however that all changes the night before when she finds out that she has been replaced by her step sister. She goes anyways and meets Roman, he shows her all the sights, until she over hears why he is really in town. She leaves never to see him again or so she thought, when he shows up 5 years later and her father starts to plan for her life again. Things take a turn when he finds out that her children are also his.

3 stars finished okay. The ending was pretty good. The epilogue could have been left out and probably another 50 pages, too. There's a bit about 75% in that it gets a bit boring.
Definitely needs an editor. Theres a few issues like towards the end it says...
(Roman pulls up short of the steps.
I’m already reaching for the handle when he says, “Katerina.”
I turn back.
His face is hard and controlled again, but his voice is quieter than it was in the car. “I’ll stay out of sight. If you need me, call.”
For one second, I just look at him.
Then I nod, get out, and run up the steps without another word.
The front hall is chaos.)
Then a bit
(Her eyes go first to me, then behind me, and she stops cold when she sees Roman step into the house a second later.
That gives her all the ammunition she needs.
“Unbelievable,” she says.
I turn to her so fast Mama lets go of my arms. “You.”) then Roman isnt addressed at all while she goes into her dads study with her mom and after she leaves the study then hes outside. (I’m still leaning against the car when she comes out.
A little way down from the front steps, leaning against the car, one hand in my coat pocket, the other wrapped around a coffee I forgot to drink while it was still warm. The morning has that pale, strained look winter mornings get in this part of the city, as if the light itself is reluctant to commit. Markov men move in and out of the house with purpose, but none of them come near me.)
He knows the kids are his at that point it just doesn't make sense.
Currently reading at 55%, this is probably the better of the book I've read from this author. It'll probably stay a 3 star - okay for me.
Although i will say it's a bit long-winded. The spelling errors are better, but I still think it needs at least another pass thru with an editor. Continuity in a book wasn't the best in some areas.
Thoughts.
*I like that the first 30% is before the time jump. You get the first few days where they meet on the plane, and shes with him in Russian. Then she overhears some info about him and runs away. Then skips 5 years.
* fmc Father is remarried, so she has a stepsister, but her mom lives with them in the family home and interacts with everyone. But it kind of feels like an afterthought, and the interactions dont flow the best, especially when you add it the nannies.
* So i guess very few know that the MMC is the bastard half brother of Lev, the FMC, arranged ex fiancee who left the FMC for her stepsister, which the father knew about. But now their father was in the early stages trying to arrange something with MMC & stepsister thinking is jusy a wealthy business man i guess baesd o. Convo the fmc has with Stepsister/step mom and then her father who decides its better to have FMC marry MMC instead of the stepsister who's chasing men/money/anything to feel superior and annoy FMC.
* also the FMC is TSTL so at lunch at her (fathers) house they're shot at with her kids and mmc and stepsister there. So shes sus about her father so she contacts mmc and sneaks out by herself since shes not allowed to leave. Then leaves with MMC to an apartment to tell him whats going on not trust her father etc where she thinks its a good idea to drink at least half a bottle of vodka. Tells MMC hes the father of the twins then decides to have some bedroom activites then falls asleep then f*ck again all while her kids at her house with her father and his men guarding everything. Like girl wtd go home your kids could be in danger. Then she finds out the kids are missing. Dumb ass.
* FMC hasn't been with anyone since MMc.

Mile High Ex's Brother was exactly the kind of fast-paced Bratva romance I was in the mood for. Liz Archer blended forbidden romance, family drama, suspense, and plenty of steam into a story that kept me turning the pages from beginning to end. While the Bratva world brought danger and high stakes, it never overshadowed the emotional connection that developed between Roman and Katerina.
Roman was everything I love in a protective alpha hero. Beneath his ruthless reputation as a Bratva king was a fiercely loyal man who would do absolutely anything to protect the woman he loved and the family they created together. Watching him navigate dangerous family dynamics while quietly proving his devotion made him impossible not to root for. He struck the perfect balance between intimidating Bratva boss and caring partner, making every protective moment even more swoon-worthy.
Katerina was just as easy to love. After being blindsided by betrayal from the people she trusted most, she found herself facing an uncertain future with incredible strength and resilience. I admired the way she handled everything life threw at her while allowing herself to open her heart to someone she never expected. Her chemistry with Roman was undeniable, and I loved watching their relationship grow stronger despite the obstacles standing in their way.
The romance was filled with emotional tension, forbidden attraction, and plenty of suspense as Roman fought to protect the people he loved while confronting the dangers within his own family. Lev finally admits that he has been secretly having a relationship with her stepsister for months and is choosing her. It's not the broken engagement that pains Katerina, it's the thought of having to cancel the Moscow trip. For once in her life, she want something that's just hers and so she sneaks out of the house and heads to the airport. When she gets to the ticket counter she is informed that hers was cancelled so she tries to buy a new one. The only seat left is in first class and while she's considering how to pay for it, a stranger hands the agent his card. The stranger is older, dangerous and roughly gorgeous and the biggest wrong decision of her life begins.

A great story; the author takes us into the lives of Katerina and Roman. Their journey begins when she dumps her ex—and not for a stranger, no, for her own half-sister, to boot—and Roman is there to help her. They face danger, action, betrayal, fighting, and finding a way to dethrone his father so that Roman can ascend the throne. Thanks to the storyline and the characters, you are quickly engrossed in the book. A beautiful story with twists and turns and plenty of steamy moments.

Roman is the perfect protective silver fox hero, while Katerina is easy to root for as she finds herself caught between family drama and unexpected love. The age-gap romance, Bratva intrigue, and heartfelt moments blend together beautifully, making this a page-turning read from beginning to end. While there are a few inconsistencies and some things left unresolved, the overall story held my interest. Katerina goes to Russia despite the situation that led her there in the first place and meets Roman while sorting out her ticket issue. I liked that these two have bonded without knowing each other well and with the time skip their reunion was inevitable. It was exciting and full of suspense which kept me turning the pages. This was an entertaining read!

They connect after her ex-dumps her for her half-sister. Through the backstabbing and betrayals their love grows as Roman maneuvers to remove his father from power to take the throne. Holy Hotness!! I LOVED the romance and OMG the characters are breath taking and HOT!!
Trust me when I say that you're going to salivate reading about Roman and Katerina. I fell in love with their romance and hated that the book had to end.

This was so hot. Right from the beginning I knew u was going to need some cold water and a fan to survive this one. And boy did I ever. This has tension like no other. And the heat was like the Sahara. Roman and Kat were so spicy, it was beyond what I thought I was getting. An absolutely amazing read. I was sad that it ended.

Omg, I couldn't put this book down. Liz Archer has written a book thatcwill have you second guessing everything and still wanting more. I don't understand the living arrangement and was hoping for some punishment for Irina.

An excellent addition to the Forbidden Silver Fox series. Roman, a Bratva boss meets Katerina on a flight to Russia. Finding out Roman is her ex's estranged half-brother she flees, later finding out she is pregnant. This steamy age-gap is sure to please!

I love reading anything by Liz and she has quickly become a favorite author of mine. I love that we always get some drama, some great laughs and the spicy scenes! This book was a great read and you will not regret reading it!.

it was good
I liked the beginning but it’s became a little bit long winded until they finally came together again. But then again back and forth for a while. If you like that type of story then the book it for you. I am little impatient but finally managed to get to the end.

Welp, the FMC is a terrible person to be honest. I loathe the "I own my kids and the dad has no say" trope. LOATHE IT. I think it's evil and disgusting and FMC was all about that. Terrible human being. The plot was OK, the MMC was pretty beta, blah blah.
