Actor Richard Corrington is a rich, handsome and a household name -but is he sane? Journalist Joyce Carter is murdered in her Devon cottage, a few miles from Richard's country home and forensics implicate Richard in the killing. Also among the suspects are Joyce's jealous, druggy toyboy lover and Richard's own wife, the beautiful, icy Amanda, who suspects her husband of having an affair with Joyce. Devon policeman Todd Mallett believes that Joyce's murder is part of something much more sinister and complex than a crime passionel. There have been other deaths - the senseless killing of a young woman on a glorious Cornish beach, another in a grim London subway. . . And somewhere on the Exmoor hills a hawk hovers, mercilessly stalking its prey, ready to kill again. . . .
Hilary Bonner is an English crime novelist, best known for her psychological thrillers.
Almost all Bonner’s novels are inspired by real life events, often drawing on her journalistic past with The Sun, The Mail on Sunday, and Daily Mirror. The Times described her as ‘keeping on the public agenda the stories our masters would prefer buried.’
She shares her life with her partner, the actress Amanda Barrie, and, with their dog Coco. She divides her time between her house in rural Somerset and her flat at the heart of Covent Garden.
It took quite a while for me to warm to this book. After the explosive start I started to lose interest and almost abandoned it after around 180 pages. However, glad I continued as from about page 200 the story gathers pace and fairly rockets along to a cracking conclusion. Worth a look.
Working the way through the series. I did enjoy this one but got a bit disjointed and all over the place towards the end. Moving on with the next in line.
The only character true to the story was judy starr. Not the most enjoyable read, the only reason I continued reading it was that it was set in Cornwall . Easy to skim through but at least I found one character to care about!
