Chancing the Alien Lineman: A sci-fi instalove romance
The alien lineman at her door can’t speak out loud. He can only touch Becky and promise forever inside her head—which is either wildly romantic or a sign she’s finally lost it.

Three and a half days without power is enough to make any woman desperate. Desperate for lights, heat, a working coffee maker—and maybe a little human contact, even if the 'human' part is questionable.
Then Tono knocks on my door.
He’s huge, striped black and green, completely silent, and somehow working for the county PUD. He can only talk in my head if he’s touching me, which should probably make inviting him in for tea a terrible idea. Instead, it makes me curious. Very curious.
I live alone on the side of a mountain for a reason. I’m not waiting for a man to come find me, and I’m definitely not prepared for an alien who returns days later to calmly announce that I'm his chosen mate.
It’s a lot to take in.
But something in me is done with playing things safe.

I came to Earth looking for a mate, but I never truly expected to find one. Not once humans saw my stripes, my tail, my silence, and all the ways I will never pass for one of them.
Then I followed the lantern light to Becky’s little house.
She looked at me with wonder instead of fear. She touched me willingly. She asked me inside. And before I knew better, my heart had already decided she was mine.
My people do not treat mating lightly. When I claim Becky, the bond will not be something either of us can easily walk away from, so I should be patient. Careful. Reasonable.
Unfortunately, I am a former warrior defined by perseverance, not reasonableness.
So I will take my moon goddess to a forgotten resort world, show her pink skies and alien markets, and hope that when she sees the universe waiting beyond her mountain, she still chooses the male who would rather build a forever in the trees with her.

Who knew a power outage could make such a difference in the lives of two beings?
Tono came to Earth wanting to find a peaceful place to live and to find a mate. On his planet, Rin, his people are tree dwellers. The sacred tree for them is the speegy tree. They build their houses in the tree canopies—trees that can grow a thousand feet tall. Because he's so accustomed to tall trees, the PUD usually sends him up into the mountains to work where their usual linemen don't care to work.
He doesn't need the money his job provides. He had been a member of the special forces in his Empire's army, a perfect job since he can't be tortured. The Rin are stealthy, nocturnal, and can't speak because they have no vocal cords; they communicate by touch. However, if someone touches them and it causes pain, the pain is transferred back to those who touched them. Their enemies usually just shoot them, and since the Empire has enough replacements, the deaths don't matter.
His number had come up in the lottery to find a wife. But Earth women are so put off by his looks and his inability to speak that he doubts if he'll ever find a human wife. However, he finds Earth a beautiful and restful place to live, so he stays.
He's noticed a dim flickering lantern light in small house in the corridor where he's working. For some unknown reason that light calls to his soul. He's desperate to meet whoever lives there, but what excuse could he possibly use to go there? Aha! He'll stop by to let them know the power is restored...
Becky's lights went out three and a half days ago. She has a wood stove so she can keep the house warm. She has enough batteries to keep the lantern on for at least a week. She's getting by OK, but waiting for the power to come back on is wearing on her.
She's also worried about keeping her job. She works from home as a customer service representative. She takes pride in her ability to usually be able to get an irate customer to settle down enough to calmly discuss the problem and come to an agreeable solution.
Her boss isn't too happy about these outages that happen once or twice a year. She's afraid she might get fired. The company always has trouble keeping CSR jobs filled, and since she keeps them updated on the power situation and works her hours when she can, she hasn't been fired. If they ever do have cut-backs, she's certain she'll be let go.
She's tired of living like this. She has stacks of books to read, but she can't concentrate on the pages long enough to read. She only turns her phone on long enough to check the weather. She has to conserve its battery power. She's almost finished eating the foods in the fridge. She hopes the food in the freezer doesn't thaw before the power comes back on; having some ice blocks in there should help with that problem.
Then there's a knock on her door. She looks through the peephole to see who it is before opening the door, but it's too dark to make out any features. When she opens the door, she's shocked by what she sees. The man (?) looks both gorgeous and unreal: like a CGI character from a sci-fi movie. He's tall with a human-like form but has iridescent green skin and matte black tiger-like stripes covering his body. His skin consists of teeny tiny scales with feathery edges. She wants to feel him to see if they're soft, hard, rough, smooth, silky, or...? He has prehensile feet. His eyes are shaped like ours, but they don't have pupils. His eyes are pure gold-colored. His eyes, along with his colors, and the stripes look beautiful to her. He appears to be naked except for the tool belt fastened around his waist; his badge fastened to the belt shows the word "Tono," which she believes is his name.
He nods his head but doesn't speak. Yet, when he touches her arm, she hears his voice in her head. His eyes seem kind, so she invites him to stay for tea. They'll test her electric tea kettle to check that her power is restored. Besides, she has questions to ask about him and the planet he's from. Only as she closes the door behind him does she notice he also has a tail, similar to a jaguar's tail. However, his tail has a mind of its own—when he gets up to leave, it remains tightly wrapped around the chair leg. He'd like to ask if she has a mate, but it's too soon to ask her that. He doesn't smell a mate, but he might be too far away for Tono to pick up his scent.
He thinks of her as a moon spirit. He's walked back to be near her. He debates if he should ask her to be his mate, or should he get to know her better first? The more he sees of her, the more he's certain that she is his mate and a moon spirit. He must ask her to be his soon. After all, legends warn of how moon spirits are known for constantly moving out of one's reach. He can't let that happen!
He decides to take her to a resort hotel on Tarius 5. It was very popular a thousand years ago. It had been an uninhabited planet until converted to a resort planet. Most importantly in its gardens is a "speegy" tree—a sacred tree from his home planet, which no longer exists. It is the custom of his people to receive a blessing on their marriage from the tree. But is its existence just a rumor? It's not, and the speegy tree is about to change the destiny of their lives!

With the blurb pretty much telling you everything you need to know about the plot, I’ll skip the summary and get straight to what I loved about this story. First of all, Becky’s reaction to Tono’s differences was fantastic. Rather than being frightened or put off by the first alien she’d ever met, she was curious and took everything in stride. I loved that about her. As for Tono and him being telepathic and only able to communicate with Becky when he was touching her, that made their interactions feel surprisingly intimate from the start. Especially when he used his tail to wrap around her ankle so they could stay connected. Yes, a tail! 😂 I couldn’t help laughing when Tono blurted out that Becky was his chosen mate. You really can’t fault the man for his honesty, though! And, importantly, there was no coercion involved. He gave Becky the freedom to make her own choice, and she took the offer seriously, weighing everything carefully before making any decisions. Becky values her independence, and I loved how pragmatic she was throughout the story. She asked questions, considered her options, and didn’t simply throw caution to the wind, despite being faced with a nearly naked alien wearing nothing but a utility belt… and some very interesting additions to a certain part of his anatomy. 😉 Honestly, was there really a choice? Although Becky and Tono come from completely different worlds, they find plenty of common ground. Their surprise trip to Tarius 5 gives them the chance to test the waters, and Tono proves himself to be utterly devoted to Becky—and to her pleasure. With the blessing of the speegy tree, they return from Tarius 5 as parents, though in the traditional sense, which gives the epilogue a hilarious, unexpected twist. A fun, quirky alien romance with a sweetly devoted hero, a wonderfully independent heroine, and plenty of laughs along the way. I had a great time with this one!.

This was a refreshingly different alien romance that takes the fated mates trope in a unique direction. The hero, an alien electrician working on Earth, communicates through telepathic touch rather than spoken language, which makes for an unusual and memorable dynamic.
What I enjoyed most was how practical both main characters are. The heroine doesn't simply accept that they're fated mates—she wants evidence, asks logical questions, and takes the time to make up her own mind. Likewise, the hero approaches the relationship in a calm, matter-of-fact way. Instead of instant declarations of love, they decide to see whether a relationship can actually work, which felt surprisingly realistic.
Their interactions are quite different from the typical alien romance. The focus is less on sweeping romance and more on two people figuring things out together, making the story feel fresh and original.
Overall, this is an enjoyable, fast-paced read with an unusual communication concept, likable characters, and a distinctive take on fated mates. If you're looking for an alien romance that breaks away from the usual formula, this one is definitely worth reading.

This short story is dual POV, well written, and a fast-paced, sweet and steamy, fated mates, learning cultural differences, contemporary sci fi romance between Becky, the female call centre operator lead, and Tono, the male alien electrical linesman lead who communicates solely through telepathy. I enjoyed the mutual enjoyment of rural living. I enjoyed Tono’s surprised certainty that Becky was a suitable partner for him. I enjoyed Becky’s careful assessment of Tono’s offer. I laughed at Tono’s decorated attribute and the story that accompanied the decorations. I enjoyed the steamy intimate moments and the shared cultural learning. I adored the ending with both characters enjoying their lives and making a contribution to cultural edification.

This is a new story in the alien line of the "Escape to Haven County" series. It is a fairly short and quick read about Tono and Becky. He came to Earth with the hopes of finding a mate but decided that was not going to happen. He likes Earth and his job fixing electric lines. He is in the mountains doing just that when he is drawn from a flickering light coming from a cabin. Becky, works from home as customer service representative. This is a job she cannot really do with out power. She suddenly hears a knock at the door. She opens it to find a gorgeous man of the alien variety. The spark between them is instant. Tono is very interesting alien. The way he communicates and where he chooses to sleep are both different. Becky is perfect for him and he is perfect for her. This is a sweet, fun, cute and sexy read. I really love the characters!

Tono is a lineman and an alien living in Haven County. He's from the planet Rin and the way they speak is telepathically but need to be touching while doing it. When working on the power lines he sees a cabin with some lantern lights on and decides to inform them the power has been restored. When he meets Becky finally he has found his mate. Now to get her to get on board with it. I love Haven County. You never know who you’ll find there be them human, paranormal, alien or whatever. This is a wonderful quick read, bit of steam, lots of sweet and just a wonderful visit to my favorite county. I loved it.

This was a different alien romance and an entertaining one. The writing is always done well and this was fun and sweet. The characters are both good people and the H is an alien. A kind one and he meets someone deserving.
He's checking on her, doing his job and they connect.
This feels natural, like it could really happen. Both leads are down to earth and kind beings, Both feel the connection and she has questions about him that he is all too happy to tell her about. His form of communicating is different and the book has a peaceful tone to it. Another interesting trip to this county where anything can happen.

loved it !! love this series !! love, love, love Tono and Becky... this is their love story... a fun fast paced shorter rom/com drama... Becky loves her quiet life but, is going a little crazy without power... she lives on the side of a mountain.. so, it takes a while for it to get fixed... As my father-in-law was a lineman for a rural electric company, I can attest to accuracy in how Tono was depicted on the job for a major outage in a rural area. Working from home somewhere in the country, I can verify Becky’s love of solitude, discomfort in large crowds, and not trusting strangers knocking on her door. Except, apparently, when it is her mate {{wink}}. I don’t think I am giving too much away – you will just have to read this charming story to see how their story plays out! A quick read with just the right amount of spice (and a great description of how alien anatomy works with human anatomy). You won’t be disappointed!!

This short, fast-paced contemporary sci-fi romance features a wonderful dual POV between Becky, a human call center operator, and Tono, a telepathic alien electrical lineman. I thoroughly enjoyed the fated mates theme, their shared love for rural living, and how they navigated their cultural differences. Tono's certainty about their partnership contrasted beautifully with Becky's careful assessment, and their intimate moments were both sweet and steamy. This was a much quicker read than I expected. It was not a bad novel, but it was not particularly memorable either. The story was easy to follow, and the romance moved very quickly, which fits the insta-love theme, but I still wanted a little more depth from both the characters and their relationship. Some parts felt rushed, and I did not feel fully emotionally invested in the main story. To be honest, I enjoyed the epilogue more than the rest of the book because it felt warmer and more satisfying.

Becky is cautious at first when he tells her she’s his faded mate. But it doesn’t take long before their connection and attraction grow. This journey beyond Earth is an Insta love fated mates read. That is excellently written with characters that you will love. Don’t miss out on this one.

I love an alien with an affectionate tail! Tono is one of those aliens. He is in Haven County working as a lineman, which is how he meets Becky. He knows instantly that she is his mate, and now he is working to convince her. This book is low drama with two fantastic characters who are perfect for each other. Best of all, it has a spicy happy ending. Excellent book!

Becky opens the door to find an alien, Tono. He has wide black and green striped skin and gold eyes without pupils. He touches her forearm and Becky can hear his voice in her head. He informs her that her electricity is back on. She invites him in for tea. Tono decides to be upfront and tells Becky that he thinks she's his mate. After a few conversations Becky decides to go all in.

This book is part of Escape to Haven County series. An instalove novella with mates involving an alien and a human. Tono lives on earth but due to looking different he spends his time as a lineman high in the trees. Becky works from home as a customer service representative. I liked the idea Tono could only communicate from touch. Interesting concept. Enjoyable fast read.

Tono was out fixing the power lines and a light from a remote cabin called to him line a homing beacon. Becky likes her quiet and remote cabin but without the power she’s going a big stir crazy. He is excited to have found his mate bug needs Be my to be sure as his people don’t do halfway when they find their one it’s a sweet short read with heart and heat. Love the HEA and the way their worlds merge.

A slow burn sweet paranormal short story with a quiet alien MMC and loaner FMC. While it was instalove for Tono, it took Becky a little longer to catch on. While the stories timeline is pretty quick, the epilogue gives a good update.

I enjoyed this short story, a chance to travel to another world, meeting this endearing, nice alien and his lively human mate (I like her practical side, to which I can relate). I would like to return there to see more wonders and meet more interesting people.

Tono finds Becky when he had given up on finding a mate on earth. Most humans didn't like his looks but she's instantly drawn to him. Even though they have many bridges to cross in learning each other's ways, they are a perfect match. Tono has finally finds his mate and his ancestors agree.

This was a short story. I loved that Tono has a different way of communication, and his relationship with the trees. The epilogue with the baby trees was very sweet, although I wished we could also have gotten the part about meeting Tono's parents.

This book is such a great short read. I loved it. Nd want to read more. I like that he found his mate by himself and was determined to watch over her even if she refused him. Both characters were very interesting to read about and the story was a cute meet and love with some great steamy scenes.
