"Anything But Lonely" by Katy Michele is so much more than a single dad rockstar x nanny romance. Yes, it *is* that, and yes, it does it *well,* but the journey that Emerson (FMC) goes through throughout the story is the star of the show for me. The way Katy Michele so expertly encapsulates grief and its subsequent destruction in every part of life... It's like she was reading my personal diary and bringing it to life on the page. I totally, sadly, undeniably understood exactly what Emerson was going through with the loss of her mother. Having lost someone very close to me, I know all too well the sting, the heartbreak, the numbness of what it feels like to be unable to move on from the endless despair, the engulfing sadness, the never-ending shadow of suffering after loss. She's absolutely right when she says that pain never goes away; you just change around it. Here I am, living proof of that. 14 years later, and I *still* have days where the sorrow swallows me whole and I am unable to claw my way up and out of the "grief-hole." The way she writes about Emerson's dark days is nothing short of incredible, with some of the best descriptions of grief I have ever read. Anyone who has gone through any sort of loss will be able to wholly identify with Emerson, and I cried almost the entire book. I found her to be a realistic, fully fleshed-out character, one you can root for for many reasons, but above all, to begin healing from this immense trauma that has forever changed her. Well freaking done there, Katy. Moving on! I loved Emerson and Mateo (MMC) together so, so much. Mateo is the lead singer of Emerson's favorite band, one that's going on its farewell tour imminently. Mateo is at a bit of a crossroads in life: he doesn't know what he's going to do once the band stops playing because it is all he has done for years. Mateo needs a nanny for his young son, Crew, who will be accompanying him on tour, and Emerson, looking to get out of town to escape the demons haunting her after the loss of her mother, fits the bill. I *adored* these two together. I loved the way Emerson "toyed" with Mateo, bantering and flirting with him even though it made him nervous because he couldn't get the proper words out around her. His shyness really made him endearing, and her boldness was exactly what he needed to come out of his shell. The way they have these little and big moments together all felt almost fated in a way; the chemistry between them was that exceptional! The conversations they have about loss, healing, moving on, being together, having children, family issues, etc, all meant so much to their growing relationship. I also LOVED the relationship between not only Mateo and his son Crew, but Emerson and Crew as well. Their interactions were so freaking adorable, and the way Crew clung to her almost instantly, their dynamic was so well-written! Crew, Mateo, and Emerson truly felt like this wonderful little family together. What happens at the final concert!!!!! MY GOD???????????? I don't highlight passages or quotes too terribly much while reading, but I highlighted so many passages to go back to when I am feeling down or need to read something that makes me feel less alone in my grief. I LOVED this book... thank you for writing it, Katy!!

oh yeahhhh a beautiful rockstar x nanny romance! this was everything i wanted and more! I really loved seeing their dynamics as a couple. I loved Crew because he really brought them together so well with being a sweet and funny kid. In this story Emerson goes through a journey of grief and I truly felt like that was so impactful to this story. It was also so well written because I felt like I felt her grief and emotions through the words on the pages. I also loved her spunk and personality and that she was not afraid to say what was on her mind! Mateo ahhh he’s so good! first of all a single dad who truly cares, a rockstar, a very caring and loving person, and somebody who shows up for her when needed!! I loved him and Emerson together because the banter and love was so good. Like Emerson, Mateo, and Crew made such a cute little fam bam and I loveeee them! I can’t believe this series is over and I might actually cry.

My heart. This book had so much to love about it. The characters, the brutally honest mental health representation, the relationships between every character, and the most touching ending. This book deals with a lot of heavy topics, but it's balanced so well with the most adorable 4 year old boy and the best found family!!!
I am such a sucker for single dad x nanny book and while there were a lot of really sweet, touching moments that came with that aspect of this book, I think overall my favorite part of this was the absolutely heart-wrenching portrayal of grief and depression that we got through Emerson's character. It was an honest look into the toll it can take and broke my heart over and over again. Her progress was not linear and it took a lot for her to eventually seek help, but I loved how both Mateo and Crew offered their support in any way they could. They loved her so much and it was clear in the way they cared for her. Crew especially brought so much light than Emerson was needed. Truly the cutest little boy. Emerson was more than her grief and depression though. She was such a badass and I loved how brazen she could be. She kept Mateo on his toes and it was so fun to watch play out.
Mateo was such a pleasant surprise. When I think rockstar, I think cocky and reckless, but Mateo couldn't have been further from the rockstar stereotypes I had in mind. I'm sure in large part it was due to him being a father, but I think his own tragic backstory played a big role too. Aside from that, it was so endearing how bashful and shy he was around Emerson. Like, him getting so tongue tied around her was absolutely adorable lol. But he was a man who contained multitude and I love how his confidence shined through on stage and in the bedroom!!
The found family was so special here. I love how in the end, they brought Mateo and Crew into the fold. It was beautiful and such an incredible way to end this series.
I think my only complaint was that I didn't care for the games that they played with each other. It seemed incongruent with Mateo's personality specifically, but I guess it added some levity. I still really loved this though!!

Let me preface this by saying that one of my absolute favourite tropes is single dad x nanny, and I will happily read any and all of the single dad x nanny books. I have no notes, I definitely missed out by skipping to book three without having read the first books in the series but I had no problem following the story.
Our fmc, Emerson, has just lost her mom and is headed towards a depression spiral, until she gets a call from a friend and volunteers to nanny for the lead singer of her favourite band. Mateo, our mmc, doesn’t quite know what to expect when some random stranger volunteers to nanny his 4 year old son who he’s been put in charge of watching over, but happily gives Emerson the job. Of course they’re immediately attracted to each other - but the nannying comes first - so they set their feelings aside and only do it once to “get it out of their systems” (lol). Of course Crew (Mateo’s kid) has no issue welcoming Emerson to their makeshift family and he falls in love with her and makes her feel beyond welcome - which only makes it harder to leave once the tour is over.
Although Emerson puts on a brave face, she spends a lot of time on tour suffering from loneliness and depression. Mateo isn’t quite sure what he can do to help, but he’s so sweet and patient when he takes care of Emerson, so he gets extra brownie points from me. The emotions are so raw and real throughout the story, one minute there’ll be flirting and bantering, and the next the characters are mourning the loss of a loved one. Grief and mental health are a big part of the story, which served as a great reminder that even though we may be suffering now, we won’t always have to suffer. The emotions both characters go through was intense/ so make sure you have tissues on hand.

I was ready for forced proximity and tension with her being his son's nanny, but I didn't expect such a raw depiction of depression. A break-your-heart type of grief that seeps into the pages. In true Hastings fashion, Emerson is outrunning her grief, or so she thinks, by taking a job from a single dad and rock star Mateo Lane. Let me tell you, I loved the return of some members of Cross My Heart. Katy's writing makes you fall in love with her characters, and when certain ones come back, you can't help but smile. I cried a few times at the struggles Emerson goes through, but the family she has found continually picked her up. Because what matters when you are in the darkness is a loved one reaching out with no judgement just to be there. Mateo is perfect. He's done therapy (hot), is such a good parent, having learned from raising his sister, and is a good friend. He is a rockstar yet offstage. He couldn't be more unsure of himself. His awkward flirting turned into witty banter, which was one of my favorite parts. This book is full of the most delicious tension, and the spice had my toes curling. One of my favorite microtropes is "just his once to get it out of our systems," which of course leads to more! As a spice lover, know that I say this with my whole chest, the romantic moments were even better. The way Mateo understood Emerson, caught her when she fell, and continued with gestures big and small to show her she was in his world. Another incredible book with a beautiful end to this series. If you haven't picked up one of Katy's books, you need to.

I can’t believe this series is coming to and end! For starters, I loved this whole entire series, so many moving parts and feelings with the whole series! Second, this book wrecked me. I sobbed like a baby. It ripped my heart into a million pieces until almost the end of the book and then put I back together! Mateo and Emerson’s book was sooo good.
We can start with Mateo. Mateo is so shy and Emerson really knows how to make him blush and be flustered. He is so sweet, an amazing dad, and a very patient man. He wants to heal Emerson and take away her pain but he knows he can’t. But what he can do is be patient, he can relate, and he can give her things she doesn’t realizes she needs. He can help take care of her when she is not caring for herself. He is truly an amazing man and watching him fall is everything.
I feel so bad for Emerson. She is such a confident, feisty, fierce woman but she is struggling rightfully so. She loses her mother and loses a huge piece of herself at the same time. She doesn’t know how to heal and move forward and it’s so hard watching her struggle throughout this book. But it’s also amazing watching her build relationships and slowly heal. She is a beautiful amazing woman and I loved watching her fall for Mateo and Crew.

When I was given the opportunity to read an ARC of Anything But Lonely, I couldn’t wait to get started. If you know me, you know I LOOOOOOVE a single dad/nanny trip and this did not disappoint. I absolutely devoured this book and I already want more.
While the dynamic between Mateo and Emerson was so perfect, with banter and sarcasm and flirting, there was also so much depth to their relationship. This book covered the topic of grief and mental health so beautifully, and so much of it was from the care shown between all of the characters, but especially Mateo and Emerson
The relationships we’ve seen blossom in the Hey Honey series are so solidly good and wonderful, but my favorite of all might be the one between Emerson and Crew. Crew (and Mateo) came into Emerson’s life and the perfect time. She was able to create a special bond with Crew that we got to experience throughout the book. It felt so special and real.
Could there have been a little more spice? Yesssss, but the book was also so much more than just some sexy scenes; it truly has so much depth and beauty in it. The chemistry between Emerson and Mateo was so good and there were multiple times that I felt a swoop in my heart just reading the interactions!
My only complaint would be that we don’t have a Cross My Heart album to listen to! That would be on repeat for sure!

In a very real way this was BEAUTIFUL! I’ve loved this whole series, and now more than ever want to go back and ready Katy’s debut series!! This little town is full of so much heart and I’m not quite ready to leave yet!
Emerson and Mateo were PERFECT! Even though they were immediately forced together, and were very cleaaaaarly developing feelings quickly!!! They still moved pretty slow and it was written so well. It was in part bc of Crew, and partly bc of Emerson’s depression and her avoiding her own feelings and her grief, and part of it was bc they were in a weird situation and didn’t know what to do!! And truly it all worked so well.
There is something so special about Emerson and Crew that just made my heart ACHE. And clearly something about their relationship truly helped Emerson be able to heal - not fully healed from the loss of her mom, and not going to heal FOR Mateo and Crew, but just having them in her corner and loving them was something she needed. And Mateo!!! Was everything!!! He has his own things going on, his life was changing post-rockstar life, he’s still trying to figure out who he is, how to really be a dad full time! He was SO SWEET! SO SHY for a rockstar in the best way!! Emerson was truly his perfect opposite match!
The ending was perfect, I love a good epilogue! I love an extended epilogue! I love this series so much! But this truly was the best ending!!

SO SHY for a rockstar in the best way!! Emerson was truly his perfect opposite match!
The ending was perfect, I love a good epilogue! I love an extended epilogue! I love this series so much! But this truly was the best ending!!

Anything But Lonely completely caught me off guard in the best way possible. I went in expecting a fun rockstar romance, but I walked away with a deeply emotional story about grief, healing, found family, and learning to let yourself be loved again.
Emerson was such a grounded, compelling heroine. Her grief felt so real and present throughout the book without swallowing her whole, and watching her slowly rebuild herself piece by piece was everything. Plus, her dynamic with Mateo didn't feel rushed at all, it was built on those late-night talks, effortless banter, and meaningful moments that stick with you.
I am obsessed with Mateo. The contrast between his confident, rockstar persona and the awkward, soft-hearted marshmallow underneath was so sweet. Also, his relationship with Crew? Unmatched. Honestly, some of my absolute favorite scenes weren't even the romantic ones, but the tiny everyday moments between Mateo, Emerson, and Crew that made them feel like a real family.
What I loved most was how the author handled healing. Love didn't magically "fix" Emerson overnight; instead, Mateo just gave her the space and safety to heal at her own pace while standing by her side.
The pacing slowed down just a bit in the middle for me, but I was so invested in these characters that I couldn't put it down anyway.

I have absolutely loved the Hey Honey's Baristas series, and I am so sad this series has come to an end, but what a great ending it was! I don't know for sure, but I would not be surprised if we got to see more of this town and the fire fighters on future books! I would love to see more of this family!
Katy Michele does such a great job of writing books that make us feel all the feels, and handles writing tough topics so well.
Emerson is struggling with the death of her mom, learning to grieve properly and also struggling with depression. She ends up becoming the nanny for her favorite singer's son while trying to hide from her grief. Although this was not the healthiest way of handling that, it ultimately lead to her finding love in Mateo and Crew. I love everything about their blended family and the support and love they all had for each other.

I loved watching that kid bring out the humor and light in everything. I loved Emerson, but I also wanted to shake her at points and also hug her. I loved that we got the mention of her going to therapy, but then it was like she missed appointments and it dragged on to the point that theapry was kinda forgot about. Also the ending kinda dragged out for me and I got bored.
3/5 recommend this book. While Katy handled the depression and grief part really well and showed that you can grief in your own ways and it doesn't have to look like everyone else's way. And showed a realness to depression episodes and I appreciate it. But it kinda wasn't really discussed unless it was through Emerson thoughts only or diagnosed by a professional, it was kinda more of this is just the way Emerson felt when things got to be too much.

Her grief and coping mechanism are what drives her away from home - running away and ignoring the loss. Through a friend, she gets a job as the nanny for front singer Matteo, a divorced dad that unexpectically will have his 4yo son with him on tour.
The connection between Crew (4yo) and Emmerson is instantly great. And being his nanny is fulfilling. So much that her grief stays in a background. It is not gone though, and through the proximity of being on tour, and several events, also Matteo and Emmerson grow close.
Anything but lonely is an amazing book and is the perfect addition to the hey honey series, a series were love is central, but one that tackles difficult environments/situations. The author, yet again, shows a look into the difficult, rough patches of life, delicately and beautifully including the though topics, in this case depression and grief. As a reader you feel along every heartache, and smile, every setback and progress. I was so shocked with how fast I read this book! I was hooked from the very first page.
I felt super emotional reading this. Reading about Emerson trying to navigate life after losing her mum. Running away rather than facing her grief and think she would be okay. Volunteering to nanny Crew, Mateos son, whilst on their final tour is how she thought she could escape the grief.
I loved Mateo and Ems interaction, how Emerson would be trying to flirt and Mateo stumbling over his words and being totally oblivious to her checking him out. I think that’s why I loved it even more, I loved reading about Mateo getting all flustered when Emerson tries to flirt, and then Emerson acting shocked when he finally flirts back. LOVED.
Emerson and Crews relationship was so beautiful. Ems doesn’t want kids, but loves Crew so much. Crew really was that extra piece of love she needed in her life.
Reading about how her grief completely consumes her to the point she loses track of time was heartbreaking. But also handled perfectly. How grief just hits everyone differently too.

Thank you to the author for an ARC of this amazing romance. This is book 3 in the ‘Hey Honey Baristas’ series, but it can be read as a standalone. That said, I have loved every single book in this series so much, and this one was no exception!
This book features the single dad/nanny trope, and honestly, I was a little timid going into it. I worried about the potential power imbalance and abuse of that dynamic, but WOW did this exceed my expectations. It was handled so thoughtfully and beautifully.
I especially loved witnessing Emerson’s journey through depression and grief. The way she described her feelings and experiences really tugged at my heartstrings and made her journey feel incredibly raw and genuine. Chapter 37 was soooo blurry because I could barely keep my eyes dry.
I also absolutely loved Mateo’s relationship with his son, Crew. He (and Emerson) would do anything for that kid, and I couldn’t help falling in love with him too. He was just too cute!
I’m going to miss this series so much. All three books have been favorites of mine and each one has touched my heart in its own way. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author!

What a journey it has been! I fell in love with this series when I first read it last year, and here we are. This book holds a special meaning to me as I can relate to the FMC, Emerson, with the grieving of her mother. Even though it has been a year, this book showed me not to stay quiet and to speak up when you just need a shoulder to cry on or someone to rant to.

Both of them were dealing with huge changes in their lives, and I loved seeing them figure out who they were outside of the things that had defined them.
And that ending… definitely unconventional, but honestly? It totally works for them.

I love this series and these barista babies so much. I too would like to live in this town filled with hot firefighters and tattooed rockstars. PLEASE!
Man did this one make me emotional though… Some really heavy topic so check your trigger warnings. That being said, I absolutely LOVED how raw and honest this book depicted grief and depression. I found myself relating too hard to my baby girl Emerson. Our poor girl really went through it in this story but I absolutely loved how Mateo and Crew were there for her.

I found myself relating too hard to my baby girl Emerson. Our poor girl really went through it in this story but I absolutely loved how Mateo and Crew were there for her.
This was such a good story of yearning, growth and love!!

this is really more like 4.5....
Picture this, a green flag rock star... again a GREEN FLAG ROCKSTAR. Mateo was so endearing and stable and hot. Emerson, well, I don’t think I have related to an FMC more. This story has a little bit of everything... hot band members, a cute kid, healthy relationships with exes and a girl running from grief so fast, of course its going to eventually catch up with her. This was such a great read for me, the emotions were emotioning and the steam was steaming. Nothing was overly dramatic, but the pain was raw and turbulent and the love story was beautiful.

Anything But Lonely by Katy Michele
This book really hit me. I could relate to Emerson’s grief and how losing a parent isn’t something you just “get over”—sometimes it comes in waves, and I loved how that was portrayed. 🥹
Also, Little Crew is the cutest! 🥹 And Mateo??? Such a green flag. I loved watching his relationship with Emerson develop. This was such a sweet and emotional read, and I honestly enjoyed every bit of it. 💕

Once I found the author on Instagram I wanted to pick this book up immediately. But when I checked the date it wasn’t coming out anytime soon. So imagine my joy when I found out I received the ARC.
This was my first rockstar romance. And it’s safe to say I loved it. The couple was so sweet and I really enjoyed reading their relationship. And Crew was the sweetest. I cried so much !!!

4.5 ⭐️ Finishing out the Hey Honey’s Baristas series with a bang! It was so good. This dealt with a type of grief that sits deep in your soul. It was honest about how those feelings can be a roller coaster and there is never a perfect answer on how to fix them. Emmy and Mateo’s story was fast paced, emotional, and a beautiful way to close out such a great series! 💚💚
