I had the privilege of being one of the first readers of Brooke’s debut novel, and the story is still swirling about in my head. Knowing her work as a lecturer and researcher in the sciences makes this even cooler because there’s something so great about how the analytical mind and the artistic one clearly feed each other here.
The world-building is phenomenal. It’s descriptive without being overdone, and I could picture every scene in my head as the story unfolded. I really appreciate a book that takes the time to build its world in depth, while still having the right mix of story and action to keep things moving. The central conflict, an illness with no known cause or cure, gives the story real urgency and familiarity.
The characters are what really got me, though. Isla’s skepticism and deep distrust of the fae feels justified in the beginning. You understand exactly why she’s so guarded, and it’s interesting to see it play out contextually with her brother Cael, her childhood friend Oren, and even her sister Lyra. Watching the shift within her throughout the book as she gets to know Vaelin and their relationship grows was one of my favourite parts. Her identity as a healer and the empathy and compassion she feels for her patients made her easy to root for, even if at first I wasn’t too sure about her. Vaelin is just as complex. His being so closed off makes sense once you understand his role/identity within his community, his context, and the trauma of losing someone so important to him. His friendships with Aurelia and Evric give you a glimpse into who he is versus what he portrays. Watching Isla and Vaelin, who both carry preconceived notions about each other, strip back those layers while working toward a common goal was a classic trope carried out in a refreshing way. Just great character development overall!
I’ll admit that romantasy isn’t usually my genre, but I really enjoy Brooke’s writing style which is easy to read while still packing in a ton of detail. The Will They/Won’t They and the slow build combined with the twists, the tension, and anxiety-induced “oh no” moments followed by the relief of “yes, thank the gods”, made it easy to be invested from start to finish.
Can’t wait for the next one, I’m hooked!
Highly recommend, especially if you love the gradual process of getting to know a new world and the characters it contains.

Amazing read, I need the second book right now!
I was hooked from the prologue, such a perfect start. I immediately needed to keep reading. The pace was perfect and the sense of urgency that was woven in the story had me on the edge of my seat.
The world building was immersive and beautifully descriptive. I found the premise of the plot highly original, and as you continue on small details from chapters prior are suddenly important and integral to the journey the characters are on. As the importance of these details were revealed it felt like I was finding out at the same time as the characters, I did not see the plot twists coming at all.
I absolutely loved all the characters, they had such interesting personalities and traits and I adored the FMC. She was such a strong, stubborn and brave person, who felt like such a relatable character. The way she dealt with her grief, past losses and what was happening to her in the present was so real and raw.
I went on such an adventure with this book and stayed up way too late! I cannot wait to see where this story goes next!

It is the author's debut and it is really very good. The author captivates you from the first page and transports you into the story.
The world building is fantastic and all the characters are well written and very well structured and developed. The plot is full of tension, imagination and adventure and has quite a bit of mystery.
Her writing is captivating, enjoyable, fast-paced and captivating.

This was a very good debut! It was well written, the pacing was pretty good and I liked the characters. Sometimes, I think there were too many adjectives when fewer, well-chosen words would have had a greater impact. The only other note I’d have is to crank up the romance (not in a porny way).

The beginning had me intrigued!
There’s banter through out, so I was laughing & curious the whole time.
It’s a slow burn which I love. There’s fae and magic. You have a human healer FMC and a fae MMC. Right off the bat I could feel our FMC is very strong. I love that! There’s this disease that takes over and the two characters have to work together to figure it out & reveal some truths.
It was a really good story & honestly, I need a book 2 because that ending 🥹.

First of all, this book is SO insanely well written! The world building and characters are so well fleshed out, something I always deeply appreciate in fantasy! Fractured was an absolute 5 star read for me!!
Vaelin & Isla: their dynamic starts as very reluctant allies, but the underlying tension is palpable right from the start! He’s the greenest flag MMC, the author promised a green flag MMC and she DELIVERED. I completely fell in love with Vaelin! Despite their early bickering, he was paying attention and taking care of Isla from day one. His protectiveness over her was everything! 🥹 I loved watching them evolve from constant banter to genuine vulnerability. Navigating their doubts and uncertainties while this beautiful, deep bond slowly grew was pure perfection.
Vaelin’s relationship with Aurelia and Evric was so wonderful to read, especially when they finally met Isla! The found family dynamics added so much warmth to the story.
Even with all the high stakes and thrilling action, this book somehow managed to feel like a comforting read at the same time, Isla and Vaelin honestly felt like a warm blanket hug💞
This book sets such a solid, incredible foundation for an exciting fantasy series. Even though I expected a cliffhanger and big reveals (being the first book in a series), there are simply no words for how shocked I was by the ending! I need the next book in my hands IMMEDIATELY!

What a debut from Brooke Linden! This might be for you if you love a slow burn built on trust and respect, found family, elemental magic, reluctant allies to something more, banter and adventure.
Full of humour and banter that had me snorting, near escapes that had me holding my breath, plot twists I didn't see coming and raw grief that left my eyes welling on numerous ocassions.
The women are sassy, the MMC is broody. His best friend is a charming rogue, hers is a golden retriever who knows her better than she knows herself. Her sister gave me Nesta vibes and there's a prickly shifter who quickly became a fave character for me. The interactions between the main characters, the side characters and the 'extras' all felt genuine and were my favourite part of this story.
“Anyone ever tell you that you seem extremely punch-able?”- Isla
I thought Isla and Vaelin were fantastic main characters. She's always putting others first, not seeing her own self-worth. Caring and warm-hearted. He's a broody fae warrior trying to save the realm without stifling who she is. Their fears, trauma, grief and personal growth, all very relatable. I also saw parallels between our own world and the illness plaguing theirs.
“Why do you have so little regard for your own life?” -Vaelin
“I won’t begrudge you for who you are, Isla,” he murmured. “You have an incredible gift, and you are called to use it. Even if,” he added, his tone taking on a bitter edge, “I do not always agree with who you’re called to heal.” - Vaelin
The pace was great for me, never stagnant and kept me guessing. Outstanding use of imagery had me fully immersed. I also really enjoyed the fluid change of point of view within chapters, I love seeing a story through multiple character's eyes.

Honestly, I can't believe this is Brooke's debut novel, because it's so damn good. I read this so fast because it fascinated me, from the start we have a clear problem and no way to fix it. The pacing was really good, I felt it was always moving, and there was something happening all the time. It doesn't mean it was rushed, many times we were just learning about the characters and seeing them develop. Speaking of, the characters are amazing, they have clear defined personalities and different voices. They're all SO charming, and there's character development even on secondary character. It like how real they feel, for example, the fae actually feel old.
The relationship is so mature and good, without any nonsense that many fae x human have, but actually aware of the age/experience difference, and how the life span affects that. They can actually talk, it's amazing, sure sometimes they have flaws but everyone has them, and they're not silly teenager flaws in almost-30yo characters, but issues that you can understand why they have them based on their backgrounds. They also admit they have flaws and work on them, slowly, as it's only natural, you can't change how you behave in 5 seconds.
Finally, the lore. I NEED more lore, please. I love this magic system that takes elemental magic and makes it more limited in a way, plus adds to it. I am eager to see more because we only start truly learning about it at the end. While I understand this is a series, and for example I don't mind that we don't learn a lot about the magic until the very end, there's one little thing I have to mention that I feel could be improved. During the book characters say things like "thank Gods you're okay", or "I swear to the Gods". But we don't know anything about them, we don't learn anything about religion, etc. They are mentioned at the end of the story, but they feel so generic, they don't even have names and while I can see why that could happen, I'd have liked some more development of this.

This book was honestly SO good. 4.5 stars easy.
The whole world-building, the characters and the plot were easy to love, and the way everything was connected blew my mind. There were bits and pieces you collected while reading that you didn’t pay much attention to, and then suddenly they all fit together, everything making so much sense and making you enjoy the story even more.
Set in a world where fae magic is drawn from the elements of the earth, wolf shifters and fae live in a constant war, and humans are there in between, living isolated (or sometimes not) from the rest of the world, the story is so much more than what catches the eye at first. You see that with each chapter, each challenge and each interaction between the characters!
Isla and Vaelin were both lovable, each with their own qualities. Isla was headstrong, caring and kind, while Vaelin was loyal, protective and a bit grumpy at times. They worked well together and found a companionship that neither saw coming, but that made so much sense.
I loved the main and “side” characters so much!! They fit together amazingly well, and they each had personalities that complemented the rest and made it all that much better. They survived together and they grew together, and they found in each other a bond that they wouldn’t have expected. Aurelia and Evrik were just what Isla and Vaelin needed, and a mysterious addition (you will know who it is if you read the book) makes me wonder if this person could be something more than just a passing ally in their quest.
The answers they sought were so much deeper than what I was expecting, and the last 6 chapters left me mind-blown with how it all came together and what was actually going to happen in this quest of theirs. I was tense up until the very end and I could NOT put the book down.

Opinion in full:
This is a fantastic debut romantasy by Brooke Linden. It has everything a fantasy lover might want; an immersive world, an impending cataclysm that threatens it, culture based magic with costs, and a full cast of incredibly likeable characters.
For those for whom romance plays an important factor, Isla and Vaelin’s gentle build into barely-leashed restraint will give tension chasers plenty to enjoy. However, those anticipating spice will have to continue exercising their patience (perhaps eternally). The relationship is built on a solid foundation of trust rather than lust, and challenges the characters to expand their world views in a healthy, natural way.
The change in character POV was smoothly done, despite being within the same chapter, giving greater emotional depth to the romantic tension. Plot and supporting characters are given the same dedication as the romance. The banter and platonic displays of love between Aurelia, Evric and the MCs are both heartwarming and endearing, adding weight to the emotional beats and stacking the stakes until you have the book in a white-knuckle grip.
With succinct, descriptive prose that flows, this is a promising start to a debut romantasy series that I have no doubt will only get better and better as Linden pulls us deeper into the Shattered Realms. Don’t miss out!

Opinion in full:
This is a fantastic debut romantasy by Brooke Linden. It has everything a fantasy lover might want; an immersive world, an impending cataclysm that threatens it, culture based magic with costs, and a full cast of incredibly likeable characters.
For those for whom romance plays an important factor, Isla and Vaelin’s gentle build into barely-leashed restraint will give tension chasers plenty to enjoy. However, those anticipating spice will have to continue exercising their patience (perhaps eternally). The relationship is built on a solid foundation of trust rather than lust, and challenges the characters to expand their world views in a healthy, natural way.
The change in character POV was smoothly done, despite being within the same chapter, giving greater emotional depth to the romantic tension. Plot and supporting characters are given the same dedication as the romance. The banter and platonic displays of love between Aurelia, Evric and the MCs are both heartwarming and endearing, adding weight to the emotional beats and stacking the stakes until you have the book in a white-knuckle grip.
With succinct, descriptive prose that flows, this is a promising start to a debut romantasy series that I have no doubt will only get better and better as Linden pulls us deeper into the Shattered Realms. Don’t miss out!

Fractured is a surprisingly delightful fantasy romance debut that centers around: elemental magic, a deadly plague, life changing prophecies, and one human in the middle who has the power to save them all.
I really enjoyed the storyline as it progressed, and (as a medically professional) I personally love when the FMC is a healer. The author did a great job developing the secondary characters (Aurelia, Evric, and Lyra), and the world-building was descriptive and fleshed out well.
I did find the beginning of the book to be a bit choppy, but the second half flowed much better. The relationship between Isla and Vaelin could use a touch (just a touch!) more development in the beginning, but once again I found this to be absolutely lovely - especially for a debut author.
Looking forward to the second book in this series!

I can't belive this is her debut novel it is that good. I was hooked from the very beginning. I love how little details in the beginning chapters come to make sense at the ending. I was intrigued and wanted to know more. Romance is not the main focus on here but the plot is. So if you like a book with good plot this is your call.
I love the characters. They are so loveable. I love the found family theme so much and fell in love with all the characters. They have each others back and it warms my heart. In this book side characters steal the show. You guys will love the side characters in here just like you love our fae mmc and human fmc. Vaelin our mmc is such a greenforest and our fmc is stubborn and put others lives in front of her own lives. Together they must seek what is happening in the world and put a stop to everything.

The prologue had me hooked immediately! The build-up to the plot is very gradual. The pace makes it easy to understand all aspects of the plot. The love interest is there quite early in the book, but I love the pining... The yearning! I have to say though, that I found the side quests picked up, while having an extremely important main quest, was becoming annoying at some point. However, the last 15% of the book totally made up for that! I will be looking forward to the second book!

I just finished the debut book from @authorblinden Fractured - A Shattered Realms Novel
I devoured this book and happily give it 5⭐️s. The various realms involved and the different magic ~ it gave me a bit of Fourth Wing vibes but at the same time not exactly. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this advance copy and can’t wait for book two in the series!!!

Such an amazing read, this is my first epic fantasy and definitely won't be my last. From the slow burn to the world building this book is one of the best I've read this year. The characters were easy to fall for and relatable more times than one. This book held so much adventure and mystery as well as the depth of the characters that it easily became a page turner. I’m obsessed! I love a slow burn romantasy and this was IT. Most enjoyable book I’ve read in a while. I appreciated that it was interesting from the beginning, and I became even more engrossed as the story went on.
The world was so fascinating, and the book moved slow enough to allow the reader to fully understand what was going on. The characters were so lovable! And the end… book two needs to come now!!!

This is what I mean when I say slow burn! For a debut, Brooke came out swinging. I loved the characters, the elemental magic, and the world building. The premise of this was something different and unique. I'm a sucker for a slow burn and allies to lovers. This had me hooked from the very beginning. The world building was easy to follow and I can't wait to see where this series goes!

This was a great debut! There is elemental magic, a deadly illness, war, fae, shifters and humans. The FMC and MMC end up on a quest to find a cure for an illness spreading through the realms. I loved all the characters! There is a slow burn that is reluctant allies to lovers. There are some twists along the way and I can't wait for book 2!
