NO ONE JUST DISAPPEARS. NOT WITHOUT A TRACE AND CERTAINLY NOT FROM THIS LAND. After the death of her Grandma, Christa returns to where she spent her childhood summers, but the silence isn’t peaceful. It’s thick with unanswered questions. A hidden map. A locked cedar chest. And a name no one likes to speak RUTH ANNE The deeper she digs, the more dangerous the truth becomes and someone is watching. Because in this town, trust is a luxury and the past is never really the past.
I LOVED this book! It felt like Fried Green Tomatoes meets Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me”—with a haunting twist. 🥹 Great thriller.
Hidden trinkets. Buried boxes. Hand-drawn maps. Secrets waiting to be uncovered.
A haunted scavenger hunt through the past had me completely hooked, and I loved the feeling of slowly uncovering what was left behind. The flashbacks!!
And THIS quote?! 👇🏻
“They always said the past was dead and gone. But that was never the truth here. Here, the past lingers, it stains the wood grains. It breathes in the trees. It waits in the quiet, whispering through cracks in the foundation. And now it was mine to face.”
CHILLS. 🌳
There was something so beautiful and nostalgic about this story, while still keeping me curious about every secret waiting to be found. This was one big love letter from Grandma June to her granddaughter Christa! ❤️
5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
And now I NEED Book 2 because I have questions! 🥹📖🌳
This was such a great Southern read! From the first chapter, I was hooked and couldn’t wait to see how everything would unfold. Set in Mississippi, the story has the feel of something that really could have happened years ago, which made it even more enjoyable.
The story follows a woman discovering a past she never knew existed, with clues leading her toward some surprising revelations. Just when I thought I had it figured out, another twist would keep me turning the pages.
M.C. Chigk’s writing flows beautifully, and the characters are so well developed they feel like people you actually know. The ending was just right—it wrapped things up while still leaving me hoping for another story from this author.
I absolutely loved this book. It felt fresh, original, and kept me guessing until the very last page. I can’t wait to read what M.C. Chigk writes next!
All right, girl. I purchased this book a couple of months ago, and I chose it for my book club choice, and let me tell you, we don't even meet for a month and. I couldn't stop. As soon as I picked this up, and just sat down and read it, I could not stop reading. I had to know what was going to happen next. It kept me on the edge of my seat. The clues that were being left, the different things throughout here, oh my goodness, so amazing! The her writing technique was just phenomenal. This book has easily climbed my five star read. Thank you so much. It has been a pleasure to meet you. And I am just at an awe!!
I not only had the privilege of editing this story, but I also have the privilege of personally knowing Morgan. She's a brilliant, charming, and Jesus-centered woman with raw talent like no other. This book pays homage to the area the author grew up in, including but not limited to small-town politics, family secrets, and hidden agendas. It's poetic, twisty, and will keep you turning the page to find out what's going on. The heartbeat of this story is a connection between a girl and her grandma, which is the sweetest story arc. Highly recommend!
