The hardest role she'll ever play is pretending she doesn't still want the man who broke her heart.
I have never been a good liar.
Which is a problem, because I act for a living.
This is supposed to be my big break. Leading lady in a Christmas film, shot on location at a Highland castle draped in evergreen and candlelight, playing an heiress who vanished from her own Christmas ball a hundred years ago—along with a fortune in jewels—and was never found.
I'm not letting anything ruin this.
Not the leading man who won't accept no for an answer.
Not the accidents on set everyone blames on the castle's resident ghost—until the harmless pranks stop being harmless and someone ends up dead.
And definitely not the boyfriend I invented in a moment of pure panic.
Except the friend who agreed to play the part can't make it. And the Elite Security bodyguard my overprotective brother sends instead is the one man on earth I never wanted to see again.
Leo.
Too hot for his own good, with an easy smile that fools everyone but me. No one knows about the passionate fling, or how I stupidly caught feelings before learning I was "just a job" to him.
Now we're sharing a tiny room above the village pub and kissing on cue in front of the entire cast and crew. Except nothing about the way he touches me feels rehearsed and my heart keeps forgetting it's just a performance.
But the "haunting" is turning lethal. The castle's old secrets are waking. And the most dangerous thing in this place isn't the mystery or the threat closing in…
It's how desperately I want the man pretending to want me to mean every single word.
A Christmas-inspired romantic suspense with a fake relationship, a slow burn, and one very opinionated dead Scotsman.

"This Silver Bell" by Kate Breitfeller is a fake dating, forced proximity, only one bed, slow-burning bodyguard x actress romance set in a Scottish castle. I will admit, it took me a second to get into this one, but once I did, I really enjoyed it! There is a mystery and ghostly element going on concurrently with the romance, which kept me engaged and interested in the puzzle of it all. Emma (FMC) is an actress on the set of a Highland Christmas movie set in a real-life Scottish castle. Emma has been and is currently being harassed by her horrible costar, so her brother calls in Leo (MMC), his best friend and fellow bodyguard at Elite Security, to protect her. Little does her brother know that she and Leo had a hot and heavy fling in the past, with very real feelings that were never expressed. This has led to some animosity and hurt between them, but now that they are thrust together after Emma lies and says Leo is her boyfriend, they have nothing but time to get it right this time. It's actually quite the mess! This book was quite the surprise to me. I thought I knew what I was getting into when I started this book, but there is so much more going on and going into it than I assumed! Stick with it if you're having trouble in the beginning; I promise you that it's worth it. There's magic, ghosts, harassment, coziness, betrayal and double-crossing, spice, and Christmas galore! Leo and Emma both have terrific character arcs; I really like what they each go through during this story to change their minds about things. Emma learns that she is perfect the way she is in all of her wacky, loud, shortbread-loving glory. She learns to assert herself and to stop staying quiet in the face of adversity and harassment. Leo learns to bring down his walls and stop being so thick-headed without sacrificing his protective nature. He has biiiiiig feelings for Emma that he needs to reconcile, and boy, does he! They each like the things about each other that they dislike about themselves, and their expressions of love really stuck with me. I loved the mystery elements in this story, but you need to pay close attention because there are quite a few characters and relationships that become important the longer the book goes on. I am typically not a paranormal romance lover, but the ghost elements are handled well and are intriguing. Both of these elements kept me guessing and invested throughout the book. The chemistry between Leo and Emma is excellent. I love how protective and growly he was towards her. He pays attention to all of the things she says, and there are many "aww"-worthy gestures and grand moments in this story. The Christmas tree!? GAH! I definitely recommend this one. If I had to have one complaint, I'd say it's a little long here and there. You don't need to read the other books in this series to understand this one, but I am definitely going to go back and read them because of how good this one was!
Thank you to Kate Breitfeller and Love Notes PR for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

Thanks to LoveNotesPr and the author for the arc, I will miss Emma and Leo but hope to catch a glimpse of them in future books where Gideon gets his comeuppance.
This Silver Bell🔔 Firstly,I would like to thank LoveNotes PR & Kate Breitfeller for trusting me with this ARC!🏰 This Silver Bell,is an other incredible season setter for this Christmas,& as an Outlander & Christmas ghost(s) lover found it incredible. To start with, there is this beautiful location that the book is taking place that took my literal breath for the moment it appeared on page, while making the story even more magical. Breitfeller's writing is exactly what I want to see when someone decides to publish a festive season book. She had that euphoric narration, that feels almost like a fairy tale while,I felt the same way like when I was little and I was gathered around the fire to talk about old Christmas stories. Of course,a passionate romance accompanied this beautiful story.Emma & Leo's story was the cherry on top,who not only completed our story, but one that needed conclusion years ago too.The way the past, now & our soon future got tangled together with mystery and an almost horror like feeling leading is exactly what every reader needs on those cold winter. Ending,I can say this is a must read for me,and one of your soon favorites too.✨ Out On Nov,5th 🦌 4⭐
This Silver Bell was a story I finished in less than 24 hours, and it did not disappoint!
I absolutely love the Elite Security series, and book 4 took this amazing series to a whole new level!
Going into this story, I thought I knew what I was getting, but Kate Breitfeller did it again! She surprised me with unexpected tropes and a storyline full of suspense that had me dying to know how everything would end.
I loved this story so much that the plot made the spice seem more of a sub topic and it was an added bonus.
Leo and Emma are the perfect pair! I absolutely loved them!
You don’t have to read the previous books to enjoy this one, but I highly recommend reading the entire series. There are cameos from previous characters, and you’ll definitely want to know their connections to the main characters!
If you love romantic suspense, please read Kate Breitfeller’s books. Trust me, you will not regret it!
This book might be titled This Silver Bell but it is pure gold! Holy cow! This is one of my favorite romantic suspense series and this book is the best one so far!
The duel timeline in this one has you constantly wanting more of each story. The mystery of it all had me feeling like Nancy Drew!
Did I mention the banter yet? I LOVED Emma with her sassy attitude and quick comebacks and Leo with his protective heart of gold! This was the perfect book to put me in a Christmas state of mind but honestly it so good I’ll be recommending all year long.
A Christmas movie set in a Scottish castle, missing jewels, a century-old mystery, and a second-chance romance?! I had so much fun with this one!
The atmosphere was TOP TIER! Dark yet cozy, with the perfect mix of holiday vibes, suspense, and romance. The twists, secrets, and danger kept me turning pages, and Emma absolutely stole the show. The banter between her and Leo was everything!
My first book by Kate, but definitely NOT my last!
Thank you to Love Notes PR and Kate Breitfeller for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This is book 4 in the Elite Security series. I hadn't read the earlier books going in, but the story explains its cast well enough that I never felt lost. Readers of the previous books will likely get extra context on the recurring characters, but it isn't necessary to enjoy this one and can be read as a standalone.
Let me start with the setting & atmosphere, because it's a standout. As an ardent Scotland fanatic, I can't think of a more perfect backdrop than a haunted castle set in the Highlands at Christmastime. The setting was incredibly cozy, and the pub scenes especially made me feel like I'd been transported back to the UK myself. The haunting element also adds a very fun, slightly spooky touch that I personally really enjoyed.
The story is an entertaining chaotic mix of a treasure hunt, murder mystery, and holiday rom-com, and it combines all three with ease. The missing heiress storyline and the addition of the diary were a huge highlight for me. Unraveling that mystery simultaneously with Emma's own suspicious troubles made for an intriguing double mystery, and I was just as invested in that storyline as I was in the main plot. The entire cast is woven into the plot so well that I was kept guessing about who was behind each mishap, and the resolution did not disappoint. I'd half guessed it and was still half shocked. The pacing is spot on, and the writing makes the book very easy to read through.
The author definitely knows how to write a character you love to hate. With multiple villains scattered throughout the story, there was more than enough irritation to go around, and I was absolutely outraged on Emma's behalf more than once 😭 The side characters are far from filler, too. Each one has their own role to play, no matter how insignificant it may initially seem. The ending left me with plenty of questions about several of them, and a couple have me thoroughly intrigued. I'll absolutely be picking up their books (wink wink Ramsay 👀).
Lastly, cannot forget the romance. It wasn't a slow burn exactly in my eyes, but Emma and Leo are so well matched that it didn't really matter to me. Their chemistry felt natural and effortless from the start and a huge part of that was their playful banter in combination with their ability to be serious and honest with each other when it matters. As a big big fan of the bodyguard trope, I was firmly in my element, and Leo's protectiveness was truly the cherry on top. He did not play about Emma for a single second 🙂↔️
What I appreciated most is that both leads are developed beyond the love story. Emma's devotion to her career is a real part of who she is, and I was rooting hard for her success the whole way through. God knows they didn't make it easy. I loved that Leo understood that and supported her completely, and that he had his own little side plot going on in relation to his job. I also appreciated that his struggles stemming from his past were explored, which gave some more insight into why he initially held back from Emma. It made for a good balance between romance and plot.
A cozy, spooky, and fun festive read. I’m already looking forward to the books these side characters will get 😝
This Silver Bell is the fourth book in the Elite series by Kate Breitfeller. I am so glad that I was able to get an ARC for this book. I have truly enjoyed this entire series, and I still can't decide who my favorite couple is. I love them all. With that being said, here is my review of This Silver Bell.
I read this book in a couple of short days because I just couldn't wait to see the outcome of it all. I liked that there is a story within a story in this book. The thought of the castle in this book being haunted made it a perfect read for this time of year. Emma is finally going to get her big break in the movie business. Unfortunately, she has a sleazeball for a costar, who is also one of the main characters alongside her. She immediately thinks a "fake boyfriend" can make this loser back off. Leo is not only an employee of the Elite group, but he's also her ex-bodyguard, whom she once had a fling with. So, who does her brother Finn call to rescue his little sister? Yep, he calls Leo, who is in total denial about wanting Emma as much as she wants him. He is there to protect her at all costs and make sure that the movie is completed without any harm coming to her. As he dives into the diary of the movie's main character, he begins to conduct a little investigation and uncovers much more drama than anyone could have thought of. I mean, movies aren't supposed to have dead bodies and vandalism happen on set. The ending is perfect, and I wouldn't expect anything else from the Elite series. I am eager to read the remainder of Kate Breitfeller's books. If fake dating, one bed, a hero, Christmas time, and a haunted movie set have your attention, then you need to give this one a read. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Emma is a rising actress and is filming a Christmas/period drama piece in Scotland in a “haunted” castle, about an heiress who seemingly vanished without a trace with jewels that were never found. After incidents with her horrid coworker who can’t take no for an answer - she invents a fake boyfriend.
Leo, an Elite Security bodyguard, her brothers friend and someone who she has strong feelings for after having a fling with him months ago, but after hearing she was “just a job” she shut herself off. Now sharing a one bed room and Leo pretending to be her boyfriend whilst protecting her - simultaneously figuring out the mystery of the real story of the movie AND whose behind the “accidents” at the castle.
Emma is loud, chatty, her mind runs a million miles an hour = Leo loves it. He notices everything about her and knows what she needs before she does. Leo is hard headed, but SO protective and loyal. Laid back and funny. He never thinks he’s good enough which is his downfall - but obviously Emma loves him for him. Gideon. The devil. I wanted to kill him so many times - he was written so well I was starting to get angry every time I read his name on the page! 😂
At the start I thought I didn’t like (iykyk) someones POV BUT towards the end I actually liked having the extra element. I LOVED this plot and all the characters were so well written and detailed - the yearning and chemistry was to die for. HEA 🫶🏼🖤
This Silver Bell brings us sassy Emma and flirty Leo together after that frosty ending in Violet Obsession.
Put together a Scottish castle, folklore, an actress, a bodyguard/fake boyfriend, and wait for it... ghosts! The anticipation had me excitedly turning the pages.
The longing between these two, along with all the unspoken hurt, had me both frustrated and sympathising with them. I was absolutely yelling at them to just clear the air already! Despite it all, I loved their banter and flirting, even as the lines between acting and reality became blurred.
Leo's alpha protector side and possessiveness were absolutely yummy, even as he struggled to come to terms with his feelings. Emma is just a big personality with a big heart. I so badly wanted her to stand up to her creep of a co-star, and I loved it when Leo took things into his own hands.
Alongside their messy and steamy relationship, the castle heiress's story will have you just as curious as Emma and excited to journey with these two as they try to uncover the truth.
Some hair raising moments will make you pause, and danger always seems to be looming menacingly. I loved it when Emma decided to fight for her love and make Leo fight for her instead of against love, even as they fought for their lives.
Finally, that HEA is so damn well deserved, especially with the beautiful gestures that make Christmas special.
Romance, suspense, mystery, and a whole lot of laughter and steam will floor you with this read!
I absolutely fell in love with this book and the twists and turns kept me awake till 3 am to finish the book. I have no regrets.
No notes , Kate ate this one and left no crumbs with the plot , characters and their personalities .
Emma is an outspoken, Loud and no filter person and very dedicated to her work . Her energy , vibe and character made me fall in love with her. Leo was hard headed due to his childhood trauma and lost his chance with emma once but now , he will do anything to get her back again.
The castle , small town and characters played the perfect role to add that mysterious suspense element. Dedicated chapters to a Ghost was not on my bingo card but , that was the added bonus which resulted in an entertaining read.
There are so many good things about this book that I cannot tell you because obviously spoilers
but one thing is true that Kate is absolutely the best in romantic suspense genre.
This was the first time that my guess was wrong and I was soooo shocked to learn who is behind everything and the relationship reveal ooohhhh that was S tier . the past pov was created the suspense really well and I was sooo happy how the story is concluded.
This is not a basic Christmas Romance, this is an upgraded , elevated sister with spice of suspense and mystery.
Thank you soooo much Kate for sending this beautiful book to me as an ARC , I cherished it with all my heart. Go get your copy now on Amazon KU releasing on November 5th.
This Silver Bell was a standout read! I absolutely love a good Christmas romantic suspense, and this one delivered everything I could have hoped for.
Leo and Emma are absolute gold! Their chemistry felt so natural, and their banter was spot on. Give me a good bodyguard trope any day, and Leo did not disappoint. He was protective, loyal, and hard-headed, while Emma was loud, chatty, and sassy, and I absolutely loved her! The way these two fall for each other while fake dating and trying to solve a mystery was so much fun to watch unfold.
The plot was engaging, the characters were wonderfully written, and all the holiday vibes were there. I was here for every bit of it!
This is part of a series, and although this was my first book in it, I had absolutely no trouble following along. That said, I will definitely be going back to read the rest of the series because I need more!
If you love Christmas romance, suspense, fake dating, and a protective bodyguard MMC, add this one to your TBR!
Thank you to Kate Breitfeller and Love Notes PR for this opportunity. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
This mystery! I thought I had the right person and was so wrong!
Emma just wants to finish the movie she’s working on, as being an actress is all she’s ever wanted. However, odd things keep happening on set, and she also gets creepy vibes from one of her co-stars, which leads to her brother asking his best friend, Leo, to come help watch over her. He’s also playing her fake boyfriend as well; a line they’ve crossed in the past. So when things get extremely dangerous on set, who is actually behind it and why?
Leo and Emma get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.
These two were so great together! I loved how Leo immediately jumped at the chance to be there for Emma with very little details and ran with the fake boyfriend schtick without question until he could in private. I do wonder how much Emma’s brother was upset about these two getting together, or if he knew Emma would be well looked after with Leo around. I also wonder if the family did their own digging into their genealogy and discovered more that was kept secret that Leo started to tell the castle owner about.
I received an advanced review copy from Love Notes PR, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Going in, I expected a straightforward forced proximity romance, but I wasn't prepared for the intriguing murder mystery and haunting ghost story woven into the plot. These additional elements gave the novel a depth and atmosphere that kept me hooked throughout.
The characters were a real highlight, particularly Leo. He's brilliantly written: brooding, grumpy, and exactly the kind of flawed yet compelling protagonist that works so well in a romance novel. His character development felt authentic, and I found myself rooting for him from the start. The setting was equally captivating. As a Scot, I may be slightly biased, but the castle and its rich history added so much charm and character to the story. The connections to the Jacobite era made the backdrop feel especially vivid and unique, elevating it beyond a typical romance setting.
Overall, this was an engaging and atmospheric read that successfully blended romance, mystery, and the supernatural. While not quite a five-star read for me, it's one I'd happily recommend to anyone looking for a romance with a little something extra.
Ok, Think the making of a Hallmark Christmas movie meets National Treasure, meets Clue, meets Downton Abbey!! 😂🎄🏰
Kate continues to blow me away with her storytelling! This one felt so different from the others in this series, and I loved it! The Scottish castle, the Christmas movie set, the missing jewels, and a century old mystery made for such a fun combination. There’s that cozy holiday atmosphere, but with secrets, danger, and a haunting that turns deadly to keep you turning the pages! And while Kate once again gave me an MMC to love in Leo, Emma kinda stole the show! She’s such a spitfire and was exactly what I hoped she would be when we first met her! Their Banter was amazing!
If you like your Christmas reads with a little danger, a little mystery, and plenty of romantic tension, add this one to your holiday TBR! 🩷
Thank you to LoveNotesPR for providing the opportunity to read this early as an arc!
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. It started off slow, but did eventually pick up plot wise around the halfway mark and had me really itching to read more.
Things I Liked: - The mystery. While I did solve it rather early on, I did enjoy seeing it all unfold. - The various POVs, especially that of the characters from the past. - The relationship growth.
Things I Did Not Like: - How it felt like the FMC's brother and 'best friend' were condescending towards her whenever they talked. Made me not like their characters. - How we didn't really get a resolution with a specific side character, despite the mentions of what would happen to him. - In general, how the FMC was treated 'less than' by those around her.
Triggers: - Sexual Harassment, implications of assault. - Kidnapping - Murder
Emma is being harassed on the set of her film so her brother sends coworker and Elite Security member, Leo, to guard her. Leo and Emma had a previous four-day tryst that ended abruptly and haven’t spoken since. Now they’re fake dating and sharing a bed. They’re also trying to solve the mystery of centuries-old missing jewelry in a haunted Scottish mansion. This has romance, suspense, spice and ghosts and I enjoyed all of it. Leo and Emma are great characters and their chemistry is off the charts. This takes place over Christmas and has holiday vibes, but can be enjoyed any time of the year. Thank You to Love Notes PR and Kate Breitfeller for the opportunity to ARC read and offer my honest opinion.
I absolutely loved This Silver Bell by @KateBreitfellerAuthor. A sassy actress, a grumpy, morally gray bodyguard, and undeniable chemistry make this romance impossible to put down. The fake dating, forced proximity, and one-bed trope only made it more irresistible. Add a fiercely protective MMC, second chances, a touch of paranormal intrigue, and plenty of suspense, and you have an incredibly fun, addictive romance! Tropes: 🔔 Bodyguard/Actress ❤️ Fake Dating & One Bed 🔥 Forced Proximity 🖤 Grumpy/Sunshine 🖤 Morally Gray, Protective MMC 💋 Sassy FMC 💕 Second Chance ✨ Light Paranormal 🔪 Romantic Suspense
THIS STORYLINE HAD ME OBSESSED. I love this series, and this most recent book was no different! 😍
This fake dating, forced proximity romance was steamy, and don't even get me started on the bathtub in the hotel room!! 🔥 I loved the blend of present-day storytelling and history woven throughout. The journal pages were such an amazing added touch, giving us another perspective and making the story even more engaging.
Elite Security never lets me down, and Leo & Emma were no exception! The location, the little extras, and all the details just made this book that much more entertaining and enticing.
Another fantastic addition to a series I can't get enough of! ❤️
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I’ll certainly be reading more. While this is book four in the elite security series, I didn’t have any problems with figuring out who is who as everything is explained clearly. I’d say that this has a touch of paranormal, mystery and romance. An enjoyable read that didn’t fall flat and kept me going to the end. The two characters are certainly ones that you can root for, especially Leo. I felt sorry that he had two lousy parents!
A book full of mystery, suspense, second chances and Christmas-yes please, count me in!
The story had me hooked, I loved the fact that together Leo and Emma both wanted to solve the mystery. I really loved Leo, he was everything you could want in a man, he just needed to meet the right woman who would make him feel he was worthy.
All the characters in the book were interesting and I enjoyed seeing if I could solve who the ‘baddie’ was - I didn’t!
The book slotted into the series well and I loved seeing Finn and Lily again.
I am looking forward to the future books on the series and more!
This was such a fun read! I really enjoyed the mix of romance and suspense, but the mystery surrounding Annabelle's jewels was probably one of my favorite parts. I loved having that extra mystery to piece together while also trying to figure out what was coming next with all the suspense. Give me a good mystery within a mystery, and I'm all in!
I found myself trying to connect the dots and coming up with my own theories, which always makes a book more fun for me. I'm definitely invested in this series now and can't wait to see what Kate has in store next. Bring on the next book!
Who doesn’t love a Christmas mystery, Hallmark Movie, and a meddling ghost? Let’s not forget a bodyguard that’s fake dating the female lead, who’s also friends with her brother.. oh and toss in some forced proximity with only one bed!?
This Silver Bell is filled with an ongoing mystery that everyone is trying to solve for different reasons, fame and fortune, understanding and solving the mystery and a deep-seated need to understand the motivations behind everything.
On top of all that, the banter and playfulness between Leo and Emma is so fun. They are opposites in so many ways, but they also complement each other perfectly.
I loved getting all the diary entries and the multiple POVs. It kept me on my toes the entire time!
I already knew I was going to love this book because of how much I loved Emma and Leo in A Violet Obsession! Kate Breitfeller did not disappoint! The fire between these too is palpable! The banter is witty! And I love how they play off each other! It is the perfect mix of spicy, suspenseful, and fun! I love the paranormal touch too! I absolutely enjoyed getting to know Emma and Leo better!
I am very appreciative of Kate Breitfeller and Love Notes PR for the opportunity to read an e-ARC of This Silver Bell!
This was such an entertaining and unexpected read! Such an interesting mix of a holiday romance, mystery, and romantic suspense. It felt like I was reading two different books in one.
I love the bodyguard trope, and seeing characters from previous books was so fun!
However, I found myself being more interested in the ghost subplot and I think it deserves its own full story. I did not feel connected to the main characters or how their relationship progressed. Issues and conflict throughout the book were solved rather quickly.
The book was written well and easy to follow. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I ate this book up. I could not put it down I loved Leo and Emma so much and the plot too. I hadn’t read anything like it. I’m just completely obsessed with Leo and how protective he is of Emma. And that ending! Wow, it blew my mind. The whole sequence of events left me speechless.
Just when I thought violet obsession was my favorite out of the series, Kate comes swooping in with Emma and Leo and Christmas. This one is truly my favorite and definitely gave a hallmark mystery after dark vibe.
