Two men—the one night hook-up who shows up at her hospital bed, and the rescuer worker who may be following her—seem to know more about her condition than she does…and about this strange world of magic she’s pulled into. As Cait plunges into this darker reality, painful secrets of her past are churned up and she’s forced to confront her new identity.
Torn between the between the sweet and too-hot-to-be-true Eli and possessive, darkly sensual Wes, Cait must decide whom to trust and which side to choose…before it’s too late.

Initially, I was moved by the writing style and dreamy setting that filled the first few chapters of this book. But when things took an unexpected turn, I was left scratching my head. I could see where the author was going, and it was a commendable effort. But the result was a story that veered away from what could have been an exceptionally magical tale. I was kept waiting for answers that never came, or came too late. And it was hard to stay invested. Still, the story had merit. The concept was original, and I'm intrigued enough to want to know what direction the author will take us in future installments.
Having experienced a series of tragedies, Cait is troubled by unexplained events that are plaguing her life. Still mourning the loss of her father and sister, and dealing with a mother who overindulges in alcohol, she is unsure as to what is really going on inside her head. She escapes into a world of risk-taking, with little regard as to the outcome of her behavior.
"When you've brushed up against the dark side of the mirror --" "You see things more clearly."
Cait wakes up in a hospital bed, and is even more confused about what's going on in her life. Bazaar flashbacks of a brutal attack, and a handsome young man who sweeps her off her feet, fill her thoughts and dreams, as she regains consciousness. Then, the handsome man is in her room, telling her to keep secrets. It's the start of a romantic union that takes Cait down an even darker path, and into a a surreal and frightening world. The handsome stranger, Wes, is protective of Cait. But soon she discovers his ulterior motives... and his true, deadly nature.
"You don't know what I am," he murmured into my skin. "You don't know what you're choosing."
I am still confused about certain elements of the story. Further, I am confused about what the unrelenting attraction was to Wes. When the supernatural world was explained I craved more of that world. Instead, the story focused too much on Cait's family history of abuse, which was important to the story, but started to feel repetitive.
Loose ends were tied up, but the pacing felt off. Overall, with a strong start, and the high quality writing, I had hoped for a stronger finish. More attention to character development and pacing would have made the story more compelling.

Every now and again you come across a book that is a bit odd to read and you wonder what you are reading and what is going on in between the pages. For me that was Clearer in the Night. The book from the outside looks just like your ordinary New Adult romance , but within the pages tells a different story and a different genre that what I was expecting. At first we learn that Cait's sister and dad died when she was younger and I assumed it was to be another New Adult tragic story and that she was a high risk as her friend Shan was always watching over her and keeping her out of trouble. Then the book got weird pretty quickly, when she kissed a guy and could hear his thoughts. At this stage I thought Ok, she has an ability and started to wonder if since she seemed to like sex alot was about to discover she might be a succubus but then the scene changed and she was running for her life from a creature. Turns out that Cait is in fact a werewolf and she has just developed the changing and transformation and it's time for her to be put down by Eli. So we have Eli who is a supernatural hunter and Wes - whom I assumed was also a werewolf. The majority of this book is a love triangle and learning developments between Eli, Wes and Cait. Then near the end of this book - the sister whom she thought had died was really alive all this time and Cait learns about the truth of her Dad and sister's disappearance and why they have been hiding all this time. Turns out the Wolf gene is genetic and one of the sisters were bound to inherit it. Later we also discover that Wes has a dark evil side which gets him kicked to the bottom of my list of nice guys and that his relationship and connection to Cait goes deeper into her family than she realised. This book is good if you love Supernatural novels and also if you are wanting a book that you can sit and digest and this is perfect if you have enough time on your hands to savour each page as it does take a lot for your head to get around and understand as well as connect the dots.

This is the hardest thing for me, to give out bad reviews. I really hoped that I would like this this book but this book did really not work for me! The book from the outside looks just like your ordinary New Adult romance but sadly it was not like any New Adult book I have ever read. At first we learn that Cait’s sister and dad died when she was younger and I assumed it was to be another New Adult tragic story and that she was a high risk as her friend Shannon was always watching over her and keeping her out of trouble. Then the book got weird pretty quickly, when she kissed a guy and could hear his thoughts. From there on I just struggled to keep up with all the weirdness. Normally when I read a book I feel at peace and happy but with this book, it just gave me a headache. I could get as far as halfway in this book before I gave up. So yes basically this book I dnf. I hate not finishing the books because I know how hard authors work on their writing but I’m sorry this book really did not work for me at all. One thing I can tell you is that I loved the cover and the book did sound good and I really wish it worked for me!
I liked the way this book stars and I loved the ending, and there was a great deal to like about the book as a whole. The writing is good. The central character and narrator, Cait, is smart and resilient. The story moves smoothly from run of the mill coming of age/ girl gone a bit wild to a supernatural event that ups the stakes and forces Cait to grow up and reevaluate her choices. I was more then happy to follow Cait into the realm of the supernatural and Rebecca Croteau did a good job weaving that into the humdrum of small town America. What I had issues with were Cait's somewhat self indulgent ramblings about her relationship with her mother and both their inability to get over the death of Cait's father and sister. It's not that I didn't want to know about it, it was just given to much time, space and weight in the first half of the book and slowed down the story. I also would have liked to spend more time with Cait and Shan and their relationship, it would have added punch to the ending. The two main male characters are very well drawn and I honesty did not know which one would turn out to be the villain until I was more then 80% through the book, so we'll done on the suspense. This is not a romance in the traditional sense. There is no happy ending except that the good guys live to see another day. The whole book feels a little like the backstory to another story but I liked it well enough to give it 4 stars. Give it a try, it really grows on you.
Disclaimers: I received a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: This book was one that I just had a hard time getting into. The beginning bored me and the story dragged. I just couldn't get into the characters and the plot.
However, having said that the novel did pull out a three star review. I thought that the novel was unique and original. It had potential to be a great book, but it just didn't click for me.
I thought that the main character was just not one who did it for me.
Major Strengths: Originality and uniqueness.
Major Weaknesses: The story dragged for me and I just had a hard time connecting with it.
So why 3 stars? While I didn't enjoy several parts of the novel, it was intriguing enough. I thought that the novel had potential. It just didn't quite live up to it.
Warnings/Side-notes: 17+. Sexual references, swearing, and drinking.
The Wrap-up: Like I've said, it didn't click for me. However, it's been awhile since I've read paranormal, so maybe that's why. Most people seem to like it, so if you like paranormal NA romance, you might enjoy this. It just didn't quite work for me.
Clearer in the Night was a great read! Rebecca Croteau is a breath of fresh air, and I am so happy to have found her book! I love the way the story is written. Its very fast paced and exciting. From the moment I picked up this book I was hooked! I finished this book almost to quick, and I need more more more!
Cait was an awesome main character! She was really tough, had tramendous strength, and showed such class with how she dealt with her little quirks. Mind reading and werewolf bites....screw it. She was also very witty and kept me wanting to know more about her. I just wish the book was longer! Or maybe a sequel?
I enjoyed this story a lot, and the character's were very exciting as well. The plot was well developed and very detailed. What I love most about this book is its paranormal element! I am a big lover of the genre, but have been having trouble finding a new read. Well, this is not one of those books! I would recommend this book to all lovers of Paranormal Romance and NA. Clearer in the Night will not disappoint.
Once upon a time, I was an avid reader of fiction with a supernatural element. I absolutely devoured Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Series, and then fell in love with Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series. From there, I picked up just about anything I could get my hands on that included vampires, werewolves, fairies, telepaths…if it had a supernatural element, I actively sought it out and read it. Eventually, however, I stopped reading this genre because everything had been done a dozen times over. It got boring. There was nothing new. The stories had been told and told again and they became predictable.
This week I picked up a copy of Rebecca Croteau’s Clearer in the Night and I’m thrilled to say that someone has finally found a new angle to this genre, and it’s good!
Caitlyn is a telepath and the voices are getting harder and harder to tune out. When she suffers a traumatic injury that should’ve killed her, she finds herself fighting not only the voices around her, but an inner animal dying to get out. Caitlyn has been Afflicted and is destined to turn with the full moon. If all of that isn’t enough, she’s dealing with helping her mother pick up the pieces of her alcoholic life, and her long-lost-and-thought-dead-sister has returned. There’s just a whole lot going on at one time and it doesn’t slow down!
Surrounded on both sides by two men, both impossible to resist, she’s not sure who to trust. Does she opt for the equally wild and unpredictable Wes; or the “relationship” with Ian that she feels unworthy of having?
What makes this novel different than those that come before is the main character, Caitlyn. She’s independent and smart; and broken, but not damaged beyond repair.
With this genre, it’s impossible not to make comparisons between similar characters. Cosplay Connect University was spot-on when they said, “Cait is the Sookie Stackhouse everyone wanted.” (http://cosplayconnectuniversity.com/c...). While Caitlyn owns the telepathy and some of the sensitivity of Sookie Stackhouse, she lacks the whininess and indecision of Harris’ main character. Instead, Caitlyn’s as tough and badass as Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter. She’s a whole lot of dark, but there’s a brightness that shines through which makes her likable and not the least bit annoying.
Clearer in the Night is a thoroughly enjoyable read. If you’ve given up on books with a supernatural element, I strongly recommend you give this one a try.
"Said that once you'd been touched by darkness, you could see clearer in the night, and could help to protect those who were still night blind." -Eli
First I would like to mention that I got this book from the author on Novel Reviewers to read the book in exchange for the chance to have the book read and a reviewed.
I never read the synopsis for the book when I requested it, I liked the cover and the title and just decided to give it a chance.
When I first started reading I thought that I wasn't going to like the book when I realized that it had paranormal/supernatural aspects and that is not usually the kind of story that I go for. (Especially werewolves)
However, I was pleasantly surprised that the story was more involving of Caitlin's life as a human transitioning after her attack that was inevitably going to turn her into a werewolf. Without spoiling the story too much it focused on how being affected by the curse that is either going to change or end her life.
Another interesting thing I noticed was the age of Caitlin, I really liked the fact that she wasn't just some teenager in high school. It really added to her personality and the situations she found herself in were more believable because of it.
The one thing I found difficult about this book at times were the imagined scenarios that she saw, I often thought were really happening and when the scene changed and I was confused. However, it's possible I just wasn't absorbing what I was reading at the time and its just a "me" thing.
Anyway, this was actually a really good book and I would read more paranormal/supernatural books if they were written this way. I love when the characters have a good back story and a great personality. Thumbs up!
I received a copy of this story from Net Galley. Yay books!
Spoilers possible ahead...
I really couldn't get into this story. I tried. I would put it to the side for a while then go back to reading, hoping I could focus on it. It didn't work.
Some parts of the story was okay. Not great. Just...okay. But I was t crazy about the writing. The descriptions mainly. Like, every time Cait would see/kiss/whatever Eli she would compare him with a cold shower. I'm assuming the writer meant that he was refreshing, maybe? Though, a cold shower would be the last thing I would want. And referring him to a 'cold shower' makes me think he's an asshole or something. It does say that he has cold eyes. Also, is he human? He tells her that he is like, 75 years old or around, or that something happened to his grandmother around 75 years ago that he witnessed. Umm....how could that be when he still looks fairly young and everything? I don't want to think too much into it since that was about one of the only things that interested me. That and Cait's dead sister brings her clothes after she's attacked by a werewolf. Umm....if she were dead, shouldn't see look the same age as she did when she died? Also, once the sister shows back up, Cait doesn't mention that she brought her clothes. I'm pretty sure I would have been like "what the hell, did?". But with her, nothing.
Anyway. The story was predictable. Seriously. It was also very weird at parts. A lot of the characters said or did things, that didn't exactly match the personality that was portrayed. It just didn't do it for me.

This is the story of Cait who wakes up in the hospital after a viscious attack to find out that her world has been completely changed.
This book was probably one of the most confusing and unsatisfying books I have ever read. There was just too much internal dialogue verse actual action and resolution to make this a good read. The author could have honestly cut out at least half of the book to make it better. At some parts I found myself skipping lots of pages and still didn't have a problem keeping up. It was like the author just decided to add random thoughts to make the book longer. This didn't make the book better it made it harder and more confusing to read.
The end of this book was horrible. After so much build up over what would happen to Cait and which man she would fall in love with it left so much unresolved but it wasn't a cliffhanger. It just ended. I kept tapping my kindle for the next page. It felt so unfinished and at a horrible spot to. I seriously thought that Eli would be waiting for her or at least talk to her. Instead he just leaves like a coward. I'm sorry for ranting but this book was just bad on so many different levels.
I hate giving bad reviews especially to an author I haven' read before but to me this book just wasn't worth reading.
**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review** Caitlyn is 22 and started hearing people in her head. The first one was Shannon, her best friend. Caitlyn's sister and dad are dead. Her mom is a drunk. Caitlyn saw the ghost of her sister and she told Cait to wake up now, she was just a dream and to forget she was there. Cait woke up in a hospital. She had been out for three days with a real high fever and no real reason for it. Wesley Chase had danced with Cait at a club. She almost had sex with him but stopped and left. Eli is the one that found Cait in the woods. Eli stopped in the hospital, gave her some flowers and a book, and asked her how long she'd been able to read minds. Eli warned her it would get worse if she didn't learn to control it and the voices would get louder until they drove her mad. Cait wasn't a bad person, she just hadn't dealt with reading people's minds. She's a messed up person, but in the end she did the right thing. She fought her wolf and won. The book dragged in places but it wasn't a bad book. It just took a bit long to get where it needed to go.
Please note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I love this book's cover. It was what made me want to read it at first glance. The introduction of “Clearer in the Night” immediately caught my attention. It was full of mystery and I just knew some action was about to happen. This book focuses more on the characters and their thoughts instead of action packed scenes and fictional events. I give this 3 out of 5. The novel was very well written and good pacing in-between each scene. The characters are quite balanced and you might feel like you want to get to know about them more. The main plot is not actually revealed until much later so you might be curious for a while. Just when you think you know who Sarah true love is, you think again (and again, and again).
This book was written good, but it just wasn't for me. I disliked the characters so it was too hard to connect with them. The MC grew up in an abusive environment, had practically no sense of self worth, and performed sexual acts just about anywhere, anytime. The two love interests were exact opposite of each other. One was an Alpha male, the other a quiet observant church goer. The supernatural aspect wasn't built up very well and I found it dull. Yes, there were a few good twists, but they were too little too late. This was almost a DNF for me, but I was glad I stuck around to read the last 1/3 of the book. It at least redeemed the monotony of the rest. Overall, it gets three glittery stars for being just another average read.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review....
So... It took me a while to get into this book. It started off really slow for me and gradually turned into a little more fast paced. This story is about a girl named Cait who can read people's thoughts. But hold the phone.... She's also a werewolf. She's in her transformation stage and here comes Eli to take her out.. You know... Axe her. Then there's Wes who I thought was also a werewolf and then he ends up having this super dark side. Then the love triangle comes into play and then the dad and sister aren't dead and just.... *deep sigh* I just couldn't really get into this book.
I don't usually read romance novels and have not read one in years. Therefore, I was surprised, to say the least, upon reading the "love" scenes in Clearer in the Night. It is not your Grandmother's romance novel and it seems like sex was at least a fourth of the book. The story started out interesting and the story idea is good but there was a lot of distraction from that story line for me with the repetition of certain words (eg.: smirk) and phrases. Also the book ended with several questions unanswered that I felt would have added much to the story. Just not my cup of tea.
Disclaimer: I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book, full of wonderful characters and a story that didn't hand me every detail through some omniscient narrator. Don't let the "choose between two men" hook fool you, this isn't a romance. It's definitely got love and relationships as a theme but I read it more as a supernatural thriller. It's got great pacing and a well developed world. Definitely looking forward to future installments of these stories!
I really enjoyed this book. The writing style would not make you think of a supernatural story, it is almost poetic. Then comes some wonderful mystery that I was trying to solve up to the very end! It was sad, happy, thrilling, and crazy (lol) all in one! This was not your average supernatural tale, it had people with real life issues going on and then you throw in some werewolves! I would recommend anyone who like supernatural stories to read this!!!
Don't go in expecting a Happily Ever After-- go in expecting a captivating read that seamlessly folds fantasy into the work-a-day world and adds some delectably intimate scenes for a good measure of spice. Go in for a solid voice, a brilliant turn of phrase and an escape to how things might be, if only we looked at the world a little closer.
“Clearer in the Night” starts out strong with the original voice of a troubled woman who accepts that she’s messed up and has no clear way to steer out of the cesspool her life has become.
I loved this book. It is most definitely supernatural, NOT romance as the cover pic implies. Took a little bit to get into for me, but then I was hooked and could.not.put.it.down. Read it straight through, all night! Haven't been that obsessed with a book in a long, long time. Highly recommended!!!

I hate leaving bad review's, but I really struggled to get into the storyline. Yet I tried on numerous occasions but gave up. Sorry, but it was a DNF for me.
There were some slow parts for me, but when it did pull me in, I was intrigued. It's certainly not your typical paranormal read, which was a welcome for me. The main character is strong, despite her flaws, and there's enough mystery in the plot to keep you guessing until the end.
I was a little disappointed in this book. This book had a boring beginning for me and I was a little lost in this book. I did not related to the characters and overall was just sad I didn't more out of it. * I received this book from LibraryThing giveaway in exchange for an honest review*
It took me a bit to get into this book but once I did I was totally hooked. I almost gave up on it but I'm glad I stuck it out. It really started to pick up the pace about 1/2 way through. I liked the ending. I'd read the next book if the author writes another book.
