I'm not sure what book gods we did right by to get such an early copy to read, but boy howdy will I make a sacrifice and hot damn was it worth it!

The characters were amazing. The dialog was immaculate. The settings were well constructed. The tension was spectacular. The relationships were balanced.

I do wish we knew just a bit more of Vic & Coco's beginning together.. if nothing more than to help in the back-story and build-up. That said, I feel like the crux of the story is what you do for the people you love (or what you can offer as a person at all), which doesn't necessarily mean I need to know how they got there. I just need to believe they are there... which I certainly did!

I also appreciated the time period, the monetary and moral struggles; the precipice of world leaders we can maybe not trust; the unease of hurting others, particularly those maybe in a bad spot; the female focus and womanly struggles, with the toxic male acknowledgement and the wholesome man recognition.

"Well, first of all, I'm not a dancing monkey in scenario. I'm just a regular monkey who can't dance."

This is a new Top 3 for me in the TJR list!

Oh friends, Taylor Jenkins Reid has done it again! . I have no idea what I did well as a bookseller to be graced with the most early copy of this book but thank you thank you! . I binged the story in 48 hours- this Thelma and Louise/ Bonnie and Clyde coded story to two best friends who hustle games of pool set in the 70s? Say less. . I became obsessed with Vic and Coco and the supporting characters as well. The story of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, raw talent, and at times, dumb luck- this story is the perfect recipe for an unforgettable read! . Too bad the readers have to wait until March 2027!
