Teera’s life was beautiful. Having grown up in the splendor of a beachside paradise, Teera settled down in a good home with the love of her life and their two gorgeous children. Filled with love, joy, and a promising future, Teera’s world was nearly perfect, until the night her husband was violently murdered while the two of them lay in bed sleeping. The assailant intended to kill her too, but Teera survived. Devastated by loss and disfigured from a gruesome facial wound, her infants still to care for, Teera learned to endure and to carry on. Yet the murder was only the beginning. It would be years before Teera escaped the turmoil she faced in Sri Lanka, finding refuge for her family in a far away land. This is Teera’s life of hope and fulfillment, a declaration of faith and of love. Honest, inspiring and heart-rending, Teera’s is an incredible saga set against an enchanting tropical landscape tainted by bloodshed and betrayal.
Here we go with my first review. I don’t believe in reading a book or not reading one based on a stranger’s subjective review so I try not to add influence to those decisions. Reviews should be objectively specific such as, “if you need a story about strength and survival, this book should be added to your list.” My lack of lengthy descriptive words shouldn’t discourage you from reading it. I had met Teera in passing at the airport after I had missed my plane. I travel a great deal and meet many people from all over. I was at the ticket counter when I heard her accent and saw that she was taking the same flight. Of course my curiosity lead to prying as it usually does so I asked what was her accent. I had not met anyone from Sri Lanka in my travels yet so my curiosity grew. She was cautious but after a bit of small talk, she told me about what had happened and I was speechless. This was years ago so I hadn’t seen that this book had been written until this year and I didn’t have a means to keep in touch. After hearing just a snapshot of her story from her that day, I thought I had understood fully what she endured until I read this book just this year. The way the story is told here only adds deeper appreciation for life and renews my admiration of her strength. I am only sorry for not reading this sooner. The authors were able to convey the story of what I heard that day in a way so that you feel what true survival is. Read the book. It will give you strength you didn’t know you had.
