USA TODAY best-selling author Susan Stephens' books have captivated readers worldwide with over 11 million copies sold. Her work crosses cultures and continents, having been translated into 26 languages and reaching readers in 109 countries. This year marks a milestone as Susan's 100th book is slated for publication.
Holly was funny but I just didn't love her. Ruiz was sex on legs and their chemistry was something else. BTW why Ruiz? There are dozens of Spanish hot names, in my country Ruiz is a last name :s
No one writes better Latin polo player heroes like Susan Stephens does. She has created the sexiest, hottest, gorgeous men in her Band of Brothers Series. The series follows the lives of 5 Acosta brothers and 1 sister, who are part of the exciting world of polo.
The Shameless Life of Ruiz Acosta, Book #1 but actually the second in the series is the story of Ruiz Acosta, businessman and polo player and the “fixer” in the family and who keeps them all together. He’s smart, absolutely gorgeous, a soft and caring heart beneath all that "alphaness" (I mean, the guy adopts the most unlovable and unwanted dog for heaven’s sake!!!!) and so so hot in bed!!!!!!!!!
He unexpectedly meets his sister’s friend, Holly Valente, so totally off men after a “bad” experience with her ex, has now moved to London to follow her dream. She’s now a trainee journalist with Rock magazine, who realizes that writing a column about living with a playboy polo player, will get her attain that dream.
What follows is more than just Hilarious!!!! A red hot Latin man and a spunky, quirky and funny and so lovable English rose. I loved these two immediately. I loved the idea of the agony column/diary…..there are so many side-splitting moments …….
I fell in love with Ruiz and Holly from the first moment…………the great chemistry and dialogue between the two was absolutely great.
Holly was a really endearing heroine…… I knew when I read the first page of London diary that so wanted to be her friend……lovable, funny…..with all those totally off the wall ideas for her column………..she’s my kind of girl!!!!!!!
One of the many fab excerpts from Holly's London Diary
“ I've eaten a whole tub of double chocolate chip ice-cream in anticipation of his return and I can still get into my jeans….) (Imagine how slim I’d be if we lived together permanently….)
Lustful thoughts? Are there any other kind?
I was rolling on the floor when I read this......
Mirror, mirror on the wall –‘Will someone cover the damn mirror!
I liked the way each book intertwines with each other so we get to know the whole family.
Absolutely gorgeous settings – London and then the Acosta hacienda in Argentina where we get a taste of excitement as we watch polo match with the Acosta brothers. The jetsetters, the hot and sexy players, beautiful women, fabulous horses and so much more –I even learnt a thing or two about this out of reach, for most of us, fabulous world
And the seduction scenes……..sensual, sexy and very very hot and geez is Ruiz a very very hot and inventive lover!!!!!!!!!!!
This was such an engaging, witty and enjoyable read and I can recommend this book to anyone who wants to immerse themselves into the exciting, jet setting and fabulous world of gorgeous and hot polo players and their world.
I have to beg Susan Stephens for forgiveness!!!!!!!!!….but I could not end this review without yet another of Holly’s fabulicious write-ups in her ultra cool column……..
Love this excerpt from Holly’s column in Rock!!!! -
You can read all about them here – The Good, The Bad and The – Well, not ugly, since all of them are stunningly glamorous, lead the most riotous lives and are the best fun to be around. You’ll have to stay tuned to find out. Hasta la vista! Here’s to the next time we meet.
Holly, can't wait to meet up with you again.......and soon soon!!!!!!!!!!
Yet another in a spicier, non-virginal heroine line of HPs. Way to go! It read differently, more like, chit-lit in some parts than an HP. The heroine was funny, sassy, yet still unsure of herself as a woman. I enjoyed the read.
I will say that I kept thinking, "when's the other woman going to pop in?" It was nice not to have the plot element even though I was on the lookout for it! Blame the "Romance Cheaters" group.
The H in this is actually a great guy but I found the h rather immature TBH her journal and the way she had to write about her love life was kind of tacky and annoyed me greatly That's why I've dropped a star for it. She's also a bloody interfering busybody in future books and I would deduct her many more stars if I'd known in advance!
It is also highly suspect that you would have a glass ceiling in London to stargaze the light pollution is crazy and the clouds take care of the rest so that is just STUPID! Its also dumb as hell to have a beer and then go to the gym that's something an OM would do not a H! All that being said these 2 were dang cute and I totally believed in their love so 4 happy stars from me.
I won a copy of this book on the I Heart Presents blog. I enjoyed the London/Argentina settings, especially since I study Southern Cone literature. The Pampas setting and the polo playing hero were so much fun! I enjoyed Holly's character as well. She's very sympathetic and likeable.
My only complaint would be that the book felt a bit disjointed. I felt that Holly would put up her defenses, then a split second later they'd collapse. While we got Ruiz's POV, which allowed us to see that he had feelings for Holly, but I wasn't quite sure that Holly would be as convinced, since she didn't have the benefit of his POV.
The pace and story flow is full of meaningless back and forth. There is not a good struggle they need to overcome, everything is in her head and about her ridiculous insecurities (even this could have been a good plot but no, she just has baseless insecurities, no background). Her previous boyfriend cheated her out of money but she has insecurity about her appearance ( wth), she never saw “ a dress like this” “ a house like this” “ a man like this” ohh “ would he live her, of course not, wawawa”
She has all these doubts in her mind, and they didn’t see each other for some time and all of a sudden they become rabbits. Where is the connection, romance and conversation… except few words everything is superficial.
This is a cry baby novel rather a romance novel. The female character is written as delusional. If all the insecurities she had could have been based on a past experience, this could be good starting point and a challenge to overcome for her.
Male character is similarly superficial and there is no understanding or helping her to overcome the insecurities. A few baseless empty macho reactions …
It was so hard to finish this book, waste of my money and time.

This novel was filled with delicious steamy passion. Sexy banter. Sexual frustration and gratification. The hero is drool worthy and the cover of the book gives him no justice! Great read.
