In the aftermath of a chilling supernatural showdown, Katy Logan is determined to protect the farm she’s inherited in the rural Appalachian community of Solom.
But Solom’s mysterious past won’t rest in peace. More than a century after his death, the Reverend Harmon Smith, known to locals as “the Horseback Preacher,” has one final round to make atop his faithful horse Old Saint. He’s seeking someone to carry on his eternal quest of bloody retribution, and several of Solom’s holy men are eager to take the reins.
But the Horseback Preacher has his dark gaze on one special disciple: Katy’s teen daughter Jett. Can Katy uncover Solom’s final secret and send the Horseback Preacher to his grave at last, or will she lose everything, including her soul?

Well.....what to say about this book! I don't know as I was hoping for a great finish to a trilogy I started with some buddies last year over on the Horror Aficionados group. The first book was great and I really enjoyed it. The second book was good but not great as it never grabbed me and now this third book just fell completely flat. I am not even going to elaborate on any kind of background story on the book as it is not even worth it to go into any kind of story detail. So just going to give my thoughts on it.
It seemed to start out good, but then I could tell that the story was just becoming repetitive as it started to mirror book number two and the author just wanted to rehash everything that had happened in book two in this book as well. It seemed like it might get creepy in the beginning of the book, but it never even got off the ground. The book was just dragging in spots and nothing was happening in the story. So giving this book 1.5 stars and rounding it up to two stars.
Honestly, I almost quit halfway through. The preachy backwoods Bible thumping got too intense. I don't mind creepy crawls evil creatures. But old timey preachers irk me.
The scary boogieman, the late Rev. Harmon Smith is actually less scary than the freakazoid inhabitants of Solom. The goats are probably the creepiest things in the story. Overall, I'm glad this is only a three book series. I had bought them all at one time and felt obligated to push through them all.
I Still Love Goats, But I Won't Turn My Back On Them Anymore
This third book in the Solom series furnished a fairly satisfying conclusion to the Preacher's story. It didn't wrap up Katy, Jett, Mark, and Odus's stories neatly with a bow-tied Hollywood ending, but the questions I had at the end of the last book were either answered or were revealed to be irrelevant.
The Solom saga wasn't the usual kind of horror story: the ghosts weren't constrained by laws developed by parapsychologists; the town wasn't subject to a defined curse by witches or the demonic; and the horror didn't fit within the slasher/malignant evil milieu. Like explorations of topics of what happens after death and what is the nature of the soul, the reader will be left with more questions than clear answers and will have to draw some conclusions of their own.
My own conclusions are that the series is a satisfyingly scary thrill-ride, and I think the Preacher should widen his circuit and pay visits to some of the greedy false shepherds throughout the country.
Literally nothing much special to say about this 3rd one. Honestly speaking it was not what I expecting. Seems like a flat story to read...
I was really hoping for a great ending and more creepiness or say fear. But instead while reading the book it felt like the repeating of 2nd book and nothing much really didn't occur in there. Katy and Jett trying to remain in solom despite the threat of horseback preacher, ready to fight him back; this the summary you can say. And yes those goats. Only when there's the mention of those creepy goats the time I enjoyed minimum. Other than that there's nothing much to tell. Other characters say David, Odus and Katy's husband Kelvin who wants to rebuild his trust on her again, Katy's brother Ray who also in the game to save her; all of their presence while you reading about them can guess the where the end is leading too. So that's it. No more to write...
I have been a fan of this series from the start. I think the first two books in the series had more of a scary aspect to it. This one was more of a settling scores and psycho aspect. This does not mean that I liked the book any less. I felt that it was a great addition to this series. Some of the characters showed a lot of growth and strength and some were able to get some closure. I could not put the book down. Just like the others this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. I would definitely recommend reading although I would recommend reading the first two books in the series first.
Praises for your books I have read all three in the series. I loved them, although I don't care for goats anymore thinking about them just gives me chills. You are now right up there with Stephen King and Dean Knoots.my two favorite authors. I just couldn't stop reading until i had finished the series. Thanks so much for sharing your amazing talent well off to your world again.
