This is my first story by author Adrienne Thompson and it is excellent.
Aspiring singer J'Nay Walker is waiting tables at her family's restaurant and working in a recording studio at night while working on her demo. It seems that her break may come but because of the downtrodden music industry, she is passed up because her vocals are on point *sighs* and this indeed is the real truth with music today.
John Folks, the cook at her J'Nay's at the family restaurant. John is a music major and saving his money so that he can return to school. John loves music but he loves J'Nay more, only she doesn't realize it or pays him too much attention until she comes from the studio with the disheartening news and walks in to hear the most beautiful and melodious music being played on the piano. J'Nay walks in and sees that its John Folks, well who knew he could play like that?
Although J'Nay loved hearing John play and her humming along to his tune, she is determined and focused to make it big. A promise to her mom whom she lost during Hurricane Katrina. It was her mom who believed in her and she would one day make it big, so distractions is something she doesn't need or want. But one episode changes the course of everything, during dinner time, shots rang out, people are down and J'Nay wakes up and discovers its 1939.
Here in this time all of the greats her grandmother used to play for her and they would sing together, all came to life, she sees her family during this time but they are not her family and her name isn't J'Nay but Junie. They believed because she was hit in her head trying to break up a fight is why she doesn't know any of them right now. But during her amnesiac episode, J'Nay (Junie) falls in love in 1939 and it is here where the story begins and oh what a story.
If you love stories where there are time lapses, or a person wakes up in another era of time then this story is for you. It is a amazing story and so well written that I just can't say enough good things about it.
