Healthiest Meals on Earth: The Surprising, Unbiased Truth About What Meals to Eat and Why

Rate this book
The first cookbook from best-selling author Jonny Bowden! Jonny Bowden's The Healthiest Meals on Earth contains recipes for more than sixty dishes and drinks that use nutritious and healthy cooking methods. Forty of these dishes will combine to create ten different "poly-meals", specially crafted meals that contain key nutrients found to promote long-term health. They include Sweet and Thai Spicy Shrimp and Fruits, Persian Chicken with Autumnal Accompaniments, and the "iron booster" of Tender Calf's Liver and Sweet Beets. A "Healthiest Holiday Meal" features Citrus Stuffed Turkey, Zippy Fruit Salsa, and Sweet Potato Pie. The poly-meals are designed to be eaten three-to-five times a week. Another ten recipes are not part of the poly-meal structure; instead they are one-pot meals that include Slow-Cooker Chicken Curry, Miso Bean Soup, and Venison Stew. A chapter on drinks will include nutritious smoothies, so-called "green drinks", and others. Jonny will provide healthy cooking tips throughout the book, as well as an analysis of the foods in each recipe. Side dishes, such as Cold Strawberry Soup and Veggie Slaw with Flax Oil, and desserts, such as Raw Chocolate Fondue, are also featured. This book pairs well with Bowden's successful 150 Healthiest Foods , and can even be used as a companion cookbook.

Pretty disappointed in this book. The ingredients in these recipes are way too sophisticated to appeal to a young crowd, I don't know if there was a single meal in this book that I could have served to my kids. Lots of chocolate (which I'm allergic to). And very time intensive. Just not the cookbook for us.

there are some seriously delicious recipes in this book, with explanations that sound logical, reasonable and... well, I don't really CARE if they don't sound scientific or medical enough for some people (those reviews I have read on Amazon seem disgruntled by this). It's good sounding food, which ultimately is what you want in a cookbook, right? And if the food is good for you, so much the better...

The concept of a polymeal makes perfect sense. Recipes contain tasty and healthy items that are easy to find.

I highly recommend the Sweet and Simple Almond Butter Apricot Cookies (if you have a sweet tooth)!

I'm not fond of recipes that use a small amount of an unusual ingredient in their recipes. They may very well be healthy but also difficult to find, expensive to buy and sure to go to waste. Too much mind numbing detail about the technical health benefits and not enough good recipes.

Wonderful book, high on research and evidence, and lower on recipes - want more recipes using the healthiest foods on earth! There is a great Christmas turkey dinner meal in here that I have used to great acclaim!

Lots of great info on foods and ingredients. The recipes were fair, a bit too long for me to try any. Beautiful photos.
