‘If you come any closer you will end up 100% dead!’

2066. England has changed. Everyone falls under the judgement of The Rulers.

Sixteen-year-old Si has escaped from The Bastille. The last thing he expects to run into is a girl, threatening him with a knife. Her name is Chas, and, when her village is massacred, she is forced to flee with Si, despite blaming him for the deaths of her friends.

For years Si believed his parents had been killed in a lab accident, but now he believes this was a cover up and he is determined to find them. There is a price on his head, but he doesn’t understand why he is so important. Chas and Si form a deep bond as they fight for their lives and their past threatens to consume them.

Breaking Silence is the gripping first book in the Breaking Trilogy.

Set in 2066, this is a dystopian fiction suitable for younger teens. It stretches the rigours of possibility at times - bringing fantasy into reality a bit - but that does not matter for this age group. It does not over-stress the violence but definitely deals with the uncomfortable in a world where you are not permitted to be free. This book would particularly interest those living in Yorkshire and the North East of England.
There is a definite spiritual view of the world that is refreshing in a story about hope in a rotten society.

An honestly enjoyable book!

The worldbuilding is spectacular and the characters feel incredibly well fleshed-out, overall the book is well-written for the audience and genre. Would recommend.

It's cute for a children's book, but the supposed climax really wasn't that climactic.
