Sixteen-year-old Sydney Brooks is the kind of person who brightens every room she walks into. She's always smiling, always making sure everyone else is okay, and never asking for anything in return. But behind her sunshine lies a secret she's spent years the truth about the abuse waiting for her at home and the pain she refuses to let anyone see.
Parker Dawson has been Sydney's best friend for as long as he can remember. After losing his older brother, the person who taught him music, life has never quite felt the same. Grief has become something he carries every day, but through it all, Sydney has remained his constant. As their lifelong friendship begins to grow into something more, Parker finds himself desperate to protect the girl who's always been there for everyone else.
When Sydney's childhood best friend, Layla, returns after years away, old wounds begin to heal and forgotten connections are rebuilt. Alongside Parker, Layla, and their loyal friend Nathan, Sydney slowly discovers what it feels like to belong to a family built not by blood, but by the people who choose to stay.
Told through dual perspectives, Somewhere Between Us is an emotional coming-of-age novel about surviving abuse, living with grief, first love, forgiveness, and finding light in the darkest places. It's a story about choosing hope, accepting love, and learning that sometimes home isn't a place—it's the people who refuse to let you face life alone.
Perfect for readers who love heartfelt young adult novels filled with found family, slow-burn romance, emotional healing, and unforgettable friendships.
~First of all, thank you so much to Amy for trusting me with beta reading your book <33
It was such a fun time reading this (despite some parts that had my jaw dropped-
I LOVED Sydney's and Parker's story so much!! Along with the found tamily trope and setting.🌲🌲 The setting for it telt so nostalgic and so warm I loved it And ADORE all the characters and even felt more connected with sydney since I found her relatable in some parts which you explained so beautifully. AND THE ROMANCE WAS SO GOOD
This is a romance book with childhood friends to lovers slow burn, no spice, found family, high school and 2000’s setting. And every chapter has a song for title and the music taste is tea. So litteraly all of my favourite things? Huh. I was supposed to loved this book and… I did. Loved every second of it, binged it. Now I’m sad because it’s over though.
The main characters are incredible and so loveable. Be sure to check out the trigger warnings though because some of the topics talked about in here could trigger some people (abuse, self harm, suicide, grief). You will love them trust me. They (Nathan I’m looking at you) are so freaking funny. I was laughing so hard my ribs started to hurt. Loved everything about them.
THE ROMANCE !!! Amazing. Loved Parker and Sydney so much. My heart ached for both of them, everything they’ve been through… He is the greenest green flag. He loved her for ten years before making a move and was there for her the best that he could. I don’t even have words to talk about her. But I’m very thankful for the author, how much I felt seen and understood with the anxiety rep. She’s so soft but so strong at the same time.
So happy to hear that a second book is in the making because you can’t leave me with THAT ending, I forbid it.
To all of my boys of Tommen lovers, this one is for you.
I've been mutuals with Amy on Instagram for quite a while and it was honestly so amazing to see this book come to life. I really loved the characters and i think the only thing that comes to mind that bothered me a little, but thats just my personal opinion, is that a lot of the time when there was banter between the characters and there weren't any dialogue tags and that happened quite a lot and I'm someone who prefers when there's a lot of descriptions in between of dialogues.
anyway, you could also notice that the author likes boys of tommen hahaha
""I don't-" She swallowed hard before forcing the words out. "I don't want to be by myself." Her voice was so small it almost disappeared before it reached me. Something in my chest physically tightened. I turned toward her a little more, making sure she looked at me before I answered. "You won't be." She searched my face for a long moment, like she was trying to figure out whether I actually meant it. "I promise," I continued quietly, holding her gaze. "You're not doing this alone.""
omg where do i even start? this book broke and healed me all at once. sydney and parker are so precious to me. like wdym they met when they were little kids and are still so close? both of them deserve the biggest hug. i see myself so much in sydney. she’s such an angel but goes through so much. parker, my boy. the trauma? shocking. did i still laugh while reading this? yes. did i cry? also yes. definitely check the trigger warnings but ever topic was handled so well. i love the found family aspect of this book. layla, nathan, parker and sydney are such a great friend group. i love how they all defended sydney. parker’s mam gave me mommy k vibes. one of the things that i found very heartbreaking is that the mean girl wasn’t just a mean girl but sydney’s ex best friend. which made it so much worse. especially because i used to have a dani. this was such a good book to start the gloomy season. it was such a great experience to read it while drinking a nice cup of tea and lighting up a candle. this book is so underrated but yet so good. i can’t wait to read more about all of them in future books.

omg!! where do i even start?!
this feels crazy to say but i’ve been following the author’s writing journey since even before she published the book (which i LOVED following, btw) and it was honestly so surreal seeing this book come a little to life every day.
as soon as this book was announced as published i headed straight onto my kindle to download it to read - and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! i adored sydney and parker’s story (sydney will forever hold a special place in my heart now 🥹) and the 2000s high school setting and the found family dynamic was chef’s kiss.
although there were some spelling and grammar issues i noticed after reading it the second time, and some seemingly never ending dialogue in most conversations, these minor flaws had minimal impact on the outcome of this amazing work of storytelling.
i don’t have enough words to talk about this novel and its amazing author, but i am very thankful for amy and i can now call her a friend as we have recently become mutuals on instagram. my heart ached for each and every mental health representation the characters held, which i will not get into for fear of spoilers. this book made me feel so seen and i hope others can enjoy it as much as i did!
MY ANGEL 😭 she deserves the biggest hug - she went through so much at home, hidden by carefully practiced smiles and long sleeves, and still manages to be the sweetest girl alive. i feel so seen by her - her anxiety, her depression, her self-destructive habits. i just want to keep her for myself and never let her go.
parker, my sweet boy. was there trauma? yes. was there laughs? yes. was there tears? yes.
he is the greenest of the green flags. he has loved sydney for ten years before making a move, and not before making sure she was okay with it, and was there to support her the best he could.
the amazing comedic relief. we adore these two’s banter, friendship (growing romantically) dynamic, and i cannot wait until they have their own duology!!
⭐️ 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫! ⭐️ ∙ layla ∙
layla we love you. if she hadn’t helped sydney on that one day in the bathroom, i think things would have started spiralling a lot quicker. she arrived at just the right time in the book to become sydney’s best friend again, and the loyalty and protection she has for her loved ones is so strong - her sarcasm? 🤭
