Dave Stanton is the author of ten hard-boiled detective novels. The first nine are the Dan Reno series. They do not have to be read chronologically to be enjoyed, but for those who want to know, the order is: Stateline, Dying for the Highlife, Speed Metal Blues, Dark Ice, Hard Prejudice, The Doomsday Girl, Right Cross, The Asylum Thread, and The Last Boundary.
Stanton released the first novel in his Dan Reynolds hard-boiled crime series in July, 2026.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1960, Dave Stanton moved to Northern California in 1961. He received a BA in journalism from San Jose State University in 1983. Over the years, he worked as a bartender, newspaper advertising salesman, furniture mover, debt collector, and technology salesman. He has two children, Austin and Haley, and lives with his wife, Heidi, in San Jose, California.
I've read all the Dan Reno books and was curious about the start of a new series with Dan Reno now Dan Reynolds. The characters are the same, this story as interesting as the others. Not surprisingly, plots wholly based in South Lake Tahoe are hard to create to sustain a series, so this book leads Dirt and Cody to Cyprus, with a second story line born from a brief stop in New York. Along the way, I learned about the history of Cyprus and cryptocurrency. Curious to know the backstory driving Dan Reno's name change.
The characters and storyline in this book are well-written and it's obvious the author does his research. I am anticipating the next in this series. Dan Reno has evolved into Dan Reynolds. No Problemo........... a very entertaining book!
My first Dave Stanton book and I’m impressed. Good story, good characters and good pace. Looking forward to more of the same in the future. Good stuff all around.
