Grieving mother Penny Nelson believes there is only one way to assuage her grief--take the baby and raise her. After all, Mercie is all she has left of her son.

Small-town Oklahoma and the friendships they produce are embedded in Sharon Srock’s heart. After spending her first fifteen years on the move, living in fourteen homes and attending thirteen schools, she landed in a tiny central Oklahoma community and made it her own. As someone who’s been blessed to be a part of the same hometown church for more than five decades, Sharon writes stories of hope built from her own unique perspective—stories that demonstrate a sisterhood formed not by blood but by heart, where ordinary women are able to do extraordinary things thanks to the friends who surround them and the faith that pulls them through. Sharon still lives in the middle of nowhere, Oklahoma, with her husband and three very large dogs. When she isn’t writing, she loves to read, cook, and travel. One of these days, she’s going to figure out how to do all three at the same time.

Having reading the first story in the Mercie collection, I was eager to see what happened. I wasn't disappointed. I really like the way Sharon Srock writes, and her characters always find a way to my heart. Though this story wasn't novel length, there was still room for character building, trials that didn't drag out so long that you grew frustrated, and time to enjoy Scottlyn and her little daughter, Mercie.

Series: The Mercie, #2
Format: Kindle e-Book
Challenge Prompt: CNL's #32 of 50 - "that includes more than 2 POVs" (I included #3 under this prompt as well.)

Book #17 of 2025: I'm enjoying this series but I am very confused as to why these short books weren't released as one book?

Mercie is now a year old, Scottlyn is nearing her time at college and she has a good boyfriend. She learns that the man who assaulted her has died in prison. Unfortunately, Bradley's parents suddenly sue for custody. Scottlyn learns dependence on God in a whole new way as she navigates this unexpected trial and a new romance.

It's hard to really say something about such a short book that is under 90 pages. Diana is such a lovely support to Scottlyn and the reader can seen that Scottlyn has been positively influenced by her.

It ended abruptly but I'm looking forward to the conclusion to this series.

Sharon Srock has done it to me again. She found my heart, removed it with care, manipulated it (as good writers can), and returned it to me better than it was. This is what an inspirational story should do, I believe.

"Begging for Mercie", like "For Mercie's Sake", brought me to tears several times, had me question the motives of my own heart in understanding the actions and reactions of another, and reminded me why it's so important we, as Christians (and human beings, too) need to let love -- and God -- lead.

I am an author who rarely finds a novel I can put my writing aside for, but Sharon has me reaching for her next novel over my own. I love that. When I write, I long to offer hope, but I never thought it was possible to find so much hope, peace, understanding, humility, and love through reading a novel until I happened upon Sharon Srock's writing. Oh, that I could write so well and with such a beautiful, compassionate heart.

I loved this story. Part one and two. "Begging for Mercie" is a must-read -- as is #1, "For Mercie's Sake".

I am thrilled to find a novel where I could fall in love with such 'real' characters in a story that was not based around romance, too...

Buy the book(s), turn off the world, grab your favourite beverage/s and snack/s (if you can bother with food while chewing on so much emotion), settle into your armchair with your feet up, and welcome the inspiration Sharon offers through a heart that obviously knows God's love, and through a pen that has a beautiful flow to it.

What would a mother do to keep her child? Would she consider marrying a "temporary" husband to gain an advantage over her ex-mother-in-law who is rich, powerful and angry about her abusive son's death in prison.
Scottlyn is reunited with a childhood friend who is now sheriff where they grew up. When he learns of her mother-in-law's suit to take her daughter away and raise her as her own, he suggests they marry to challenge the charge that she cannot raise the baby alone. At first she is appalled, but as she learns what advantage it would give her, she accepts his offer. Now he is at risk of losing his job as the mother-in-law begins to hire people, even his own father, to discredit him.
I recommend this series for its treatment of real life situations and God's assurance that in Him we can find solutions.

A beautiful, touching story of love and the power of forgiveness in one so young and vulnerable as Scottlyn; but also a story of extreme and unhealthy grief and hatred in an older mother who couldn't handle loss and who took her bitterness out on everyone. Sharon Srock does a wonderful job of showing ways for people of all ages to handle anger, hatred, bitterness and grief. I have read a lot about changemakers this week, and this book illustrates the importance of being a changemaker (like Diana and others in this story), and how God can help and direct us in that path. It also brings to light the importance of sharing our blessings with others in need. Well-done, Sharon Srock - a meaningful novella!

Second installment of the Mercie series.

Scottlyn Rich is a college student with a baby who is soon to turn one. The parents of the boy who raped her are now deciding to take Mercie from her and raise the baby as theirs as their son just died in prison. I mean, grief is one thing, but horrible selfishness is quite another.

How much can this young lady endure?

Thank God for Diana Kensington who took her in when she was still pregnant and has been a constant source of physical and emotional support. And thank God for her boyfriend, Grant and his father who is a family court lawyer.

Scottlynne tries to move past her trauma and make the best life possible for her child but her trials are not over. When her rapist is killed in prison, his mother decides that the only way to get past the grief of losing her son is to raise his daughter and sues for custody of Mercie. It is only through the grace of God that Scottlynne can find forgiveness and attempt a relationship with Mercies other grandparents.

An open heart!

It's difficult to believe that good can result from bad but we see it happening quite often. In this story there's sadness and heartbreak but the characters are seeking a way to make the best of what their situation. A very compelling and touching story. I love books by this author.

The Mercie Collection by Sharon Srock are a well-written Christian novella with a pinch of suspense. Faith in God runs through the story like a red thread. It is a faith-building story with great characters you get to know well. The story is heartwarming but definitely touching. A great series to read.

Begging For Mercie is such a great story following For Mercie's Sake. I loved how the husband, Gabe took charge of his wife and their situation. Asking forgiveness for allowing himself to be lead instead of leading. How freaking romantic! The suspense at the end took an unexpected turn and left me in tears. Beautifully written.

Begging for Mercie is heart-rending, as well as, a heartwarming tale of harm and hurt. Then, to keep the reader’s emotions working overtime, it becomes a story of forgiveness and healing.

I truly enjoyed this faith based series and highly recommend it.

It wasn't only Scottlyn that was begging for Mercie. We're talking about more than a little girl, lol. In their own ways, both Scottlyn and Bradley's mother received mercy. I like the play on words and the powerful lesson. Very well done!

Begging for Mercy

This novella showed a perfect example of how we are to forgive and be merciful to others. It also showed examples of mother's love.

I loved this short novel. I appreciated how the focus was not just on Scottlyn and her need to forgive and trust, but also on Penny and her need to move on past her intense grief and anger and learn to live and love again.

Begging for Mercie

The father of Scottlyn baby died in prison who was a rapist. Scottlyn is trying to get a education and care for her daughter Mercie. She has a very caring and supportive boyfriend. Mercie's grandparents is grieving their son death. Penny the grandmother thinks if she could get custody that it would help her with the lost of her son. This really makes a mess in Scottlyn plans for the future. This book continues from For Mercie's Sake but you don't have to read it first to enjoy this book. A very emotional story, love the characters in the book. I would love to see another one after this book caused I just wanted more, did not want to let go of the characters. They were so real to me. I wanted given a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review. I really love Sharon's book and look forward to her next one.

About a year ago I had the pleasure of reading a novella by a new to me author, Sharon Srock. That book was For Mercie's Sake, which introduced us to Scottlyn, a teen girl who was pregnant as a result of being raped. Begging For Mercie is the much anticipated sequel to that powerful story of how God can turn a difficult situation into something beautiful. Scottlyn has graduated high school, has a supportive boyfriend, has been accepted to college, and volunteers her time at a crisis pregnancy center, all while caring for her one year old daughter, Mercie. In the opening lines of the book we find out that her rapist has died while in prison trying to break up a fight. This sets off a series of events that sends Scottlyn into a custody battle she never expected-with her rapist's grieving parents, Mercie's grandparents. Penny is struggling with guilt, grief and depression and believes having custody of Mercie is her only link to her son. But will the link be strengthened through this, or severed completely?

I love how this story progresses. It is a quick read, but is well developed and not rushed. The characters are believable, and even Penny is someone who will leave you feeling conflicting emotions. She is someone you want to hate, yet you can also sympathize with her to an extent.

A beautiful, emotional story. I highly recommend it.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review which I have given.

I love Sharon Srock’s books and when a new one releases, I’ve just gotta read it! The latest and greatest is Begging for Mercie. It is the second book in the Mercie Series following For Mercie’s Sake.

Scottlyn Rich was violated in the worst way but chose to see the blessing that God would bring from her pain. She’s grown up far faster than she should have had to but she’s matured into a woman who loves the Lord and longs to serve Him. She’s put the past away and is taking steps toward her new life and just when things seem to be moving forward without resistance, Scottlyn gets court papers that threaten to rock her world.

Penny Nelson has suffered the loss no mother should have to face…the loss of her child. The pain is so heavy that she is disintegrating beneath it but her husband loves her too much to allow that to happen. Through his love and God’s grace, he challenges Penny to find the strength to forgive and to move through her grief.

Begging for Mercie is a story that will have you cheering for Scottlyn and praying for justice while simultaneously tugging at your heart as you experience the sorrow of a grieving parent. It is a great story demonstrating what it means to love others as Jesus loves.

I received this book from the author and have provided my honest review in exchange.

Scottlyn Rich has been able to move on in her life. With a safe place to live, she has been able to attend college and start a life for she and her daughter, Mercie. However, things change when news that Mercie's father has died.

Penny is a grieving mother. Unable to accept what her son had done and that he is now dead, she decides that the only course of action is to seek a substitute. Will she be turned from her path or will it destroy her?

Through God's love and forgiveness, these two women face the challenges that life has thrown at them. Shown as a fictional story, this situation could really be a true to life situation for some. The author has really done an excellent job in presenting the story. I love how the characters interact with one another and how supportive they are. If you are looking for a series that is true to life, pick up these stories and read them. I know I kept turning the pages to see how Scottie would react. I am not sure I could have been as poised and understanding as she was in this book.

Begging for Mercie by Sharon Srock
Mercie Series Book Two
Scottlyn Rich has settled into her new life. Living with Diana, raising Mercie and preparing for college. She loves her daughter so deeply and enjoys being a mom, even at her young age. She never expects the sudden twists and turns life takes to break into her peaceful life.

Penny Nelson's grief over the loss of her son has taken her to the edge of sanity. In her state of mind she needs to place the blame for his imprisonment and then death on someone and Scottlyn Rich fits the mold.

This story continues from book one, For Mercie's Sake. If you want to know the whole story, I suggest reading that book first. This is such an emotional story, I enjoyed it so much...even through the tears. A mother's heart is a fierce thing. They want to protect their children with all they have. And at times with grown children, it's easy to gloss over their wrongs.

Begging for Mercie by Sharon Srock is a long awaited sequel to For Mercie's sake.
Scottlyn has made a life for herself and Mercie with Diana. Her life is coming together, she has graduated and ready to start college, found Jesus as her Savior and met a nice boy.
Her world starts to unravel when her raper, Bradley's parents seek custody of Mercie.
The story flows well between Mercie and those of Gabe and Penny,Mercie's grandparents seeking custody.
I love how Gabe learns to start dealing with his grief by telling Penny" As for me and my house we will serve the Lord" Joshua 24:15. Also memorable was the balloons of Guilt, Blame, Anger, and Grief released at Bradley's grave by Penny.
Tears were shed, and shouts of joy for this warm inspirational novella that shows God's grace and redemption and how he turns betrayals into blessings.
Thanks, Sharon for letting us be a part of the process and bringing us on this journey.
