Rate this book
A Primer of Adlerian Psychology offers an accessible, yet very learned, introduction to Adlerian Psychology. Also known as Individual Psychology, the approach stresses the unity of the individual, the subjective choices he or she makes and the goals the individual works towards he or she moves through life. Therapists can apply this theory in a variety of settings with populations of all ages, making it a highly practical and valuable approach. Written by two scholars with extensive knowledge and experience in this school of thought, this book covers the basic tenets of Individual Psychology geared toward those students and clinicians who are yet unfamiliar with Adler's work.

Well it not for people who are learning about Adlerian Theory. But I love Adlerian Theory I agree with a lot of it but this book is so outdated.

Killer summary of Adler psychology. Society would be better if his views were more prevalent in therapist closed doors. I really enjoyed those book.

I believe Mosak and Maniacci present the essential elements of Adlerian theory in a clear and concise way. Through the understanding of Alfred Adler's concepts, clinicians can develop an appreciation for the significant and notable contributions Adlerian theory has had to offer in the history of psychology. This book covers all of the significant concepts within Adlerian theory and provides a solid base of knowledge from which you can bridge connections with other theoretical orientations. I highly recommend this book.

Authors are very biased in favor of Adler. It reads almost like propaganda sometimes. Also, authors cite their own work about 100 times in the book. I think Adlerian’s are just a bit controlling and narcissistic in general so I don’t know what else one would expect. For that reason I’ll only take one star off the top. Otherwise, book was good. They seem to have done a pretty good job summarizing Adler’s basic ideas.

With the book “A Primer of Adlerian Psychology,” we are introduced to the ideas and psychology of Alfred Adler. Since the book is thin and ‘primer’ is in the title my first impression was that it wasn’t going to go into too much depth. Luckily, it seems that I was wrong in my initial assessment.

I don’t really know much about Adler except the stuff that I have read, so I am not a master or an expert in Adler. In anticipation of that, the end of each chapter contains a Summary of said chapter and a series of questions on the subject covered.

Other than that there isn’t really much to say about this one.
