Intimate Secrets #1

The Delicate Matter of Lady Blayne

Rate this book
Catriona, Lady Blayne is recovering from a most delicate situation. Driven to the brink of madness by love for her late husband, a young man too ill to meet the demands of the marriage bed, she teeters on the brink of scandal. Now she must face the carnal temptation personified by her husband’s cousin and heir, James, the new Lord Blayne. His sensual appeal, contrasted with his iron will and stern self-mastery fascinates her. She can’t help but ask: what if sensual indulgence is the only way out of her darkness? However, she is not free to explore the idea. There are those who seek to control the young widow, keeping her imprisoned through emotional manipulation and physical coercion. With her growing restlessness, the very people she loves and trusts the most are becoming an increasing danger to her sanity and safety.

James is determined to protect Catriona—but he will not soften to her again. She rejected him once and James can’t risk losing his heart a second time. As heir to the Blayne baronetcy, he must marry a woman socially and politically appropriate. Such a scandalously self-indulgent lady as Catriona won’t do. Yet the pretty girl he once knew has grown into a beautiful, curvaceous woman that is every man’s dream.

Especially his.

Erotic Romance; Regency Historical; Elements of Sensual Domination, Spanking and Light Bondage; Rubenesque Heroine; Character-Driven Story with Angst and Strong Internal Conflicts; Standalone Long Novel.

Reader Advisory: The characters discuss issues of abuse which took place in the heroine's backstory. Frank sexual language & period appropriate sexual slang and general bedchamber naughtiness.

I am a big fan of Natasha Blackthorne. Her duet, A Measured Risk and Trust Me, are top tier historical romance erotica.

I really like reading an author and seeing how they play with the same story but shed some new light by playing with different paths the characters take.

Surface-level similarities between the couple in A Measured Risk and here: heroine has trauma that the hero helps her with. The heroine is not suitable for polite society, which creates some pressure and strain for their relationship.

In this one, the heroine is a victim of an obsessed doctor who disguises his ill intent through hysteria and discipline. The hero is in love with the heroine, who rejected him in their youth.

What I found most interesting was the exploration of a hero who had to mature out of his young infatuation for the girl he loved in his youth. I loved this moment when he realized his love for her, the picture he had of her in his mind, the happy girl Sunny, had died. It was such a complex awakening, because although he believes she’s not someone he could make a political marriage with (this fuels much of the conflict because he clearly drops anything and everything as soon as he sees her again), he loved her and saw her.

I also enjoyed the many realistic portrayals of misunderstandings… especially in the beginning where they both felt the other didn’t want them.

While I enjoyed the story and the character psychology, I didn’t feel that overdriving obsession that made Jon and Anne one of my favourite fictional couples of all time, but still memorable and strong.

James has been away for a long time but now he's back because he has become the new heir of Blayne Baronetcy, he became heir after his cousin past away. and now he is back to take his place. But once back he comes face to face of his cousins widow, a woman he once loved but gave her heart to his cousin. When he meets up with her he finds some of the old feelings have not left him. But not only that he finds her not well and mistreated . mistreated by the people who were meant to be taking care of her.

He takes her away from it all, saves her from a life of seclusion and drug filled state. But this only makes his feeling grow stronger for her and he trys so hard to ignore the lust that has started building for her.

James and Catriona have to work through trust issues and work through what Catriona thinks is wicked about her self.

well its been a while since iv read this type of book (Historical erotica) but when asked to review I jumped at the chance because Natasha Blackthorne is one of my favourite authors and I always love her books.
When I picked this book up it didnt take me long to get into it and it didnt take me long to finish either because I struggled to put it down. Now anyone who knows me knows im not a fan of ebooks. I love paper backs to much and I normally find it hard to concentrate when I read an ebook. but im happy to say that wasnt the case with this book.

I felt like I was back in time and living the life of Catriona , And I found it very easy to understand what she was feeling. Natasha has yet again created another main man which I found so easily to fall in love with.

Natasha has an amazing way with words and she has a knack of writing new and amazing storys . This is one of the reasons why she is one of my favourite erotica authors.

THIS BOOK WAS SIMPLY AMAZING.

Five stars just don't justify this author

I shied away from this genre because sometimes the world building overtakes the whole plot and novel. The dialogue tends to be too much and makes the story too long and unbearable.

There are a few and I mean few authors who can engage me into historical romance. Blackthorne tops that list. She gives you such an easy read with all the historical feel of romance back in time. She has most definitely become one of my favorite authors.

An urgent letter from James aunt concerning his cousins widow, Catriona, brings him home. When he first sees, he is confused. This was a woman who had denied him marriage, choosing to marry his cousin instead.

When they meet again from the first time in years he notices she is no longer a skinny girl, but now a full bloomed woman. He also takes notice that she is no longer that happy, smiling woman who had been nicknamed Sunny. She seems sad, broken. It wrenches we his heart and he instantly wants to protect her save her. It is a duty that has been put on him, after his cousins death. But as he spends more time with her, he realizes the demons that haunt her are deeper than he thought and his whole life becomes engulfed in saving her. But is he saving her or is she saving him?

This book was a masterpiece of emotional development in the main characters. Lady Blayne has been treated so horribly by the very people that were supposed to love and protect her that it is amazing that she is still alive, much less fighting her way back to normalcy. She is truly a heroine to admire. While the subject matter is not light, it is beautifully and delicately handled by the author. Natasha Blackthorne is one of my new favorite authors and I cannot wait to devour more of her writing.

I have tried a few times with this author, and I am officially throwing in the towel. I think she is a strong writer, but her stories run out of gas quickly. I could see these stories making excellent novellas! However, 35-40% in and it is the same monotonous story on a loop.

As a long-time historical romance reader, I feel that 'The Delicate Matter of Lady Blayne' is absolutely a genre standout. This book addresses so many very serious issues while still managing to be an erotic romance that makes you hope for a wonderful happy ending between the main characters, Catriona (Sunny) and James.

The story begins with James arriving to determine the care for his late cousin's widow, Lady Catriona Blayne. Of course, it turns out that we quickly discover that James once asked Catriona to marry him and was refused. Despite years of trying, James has never been able to fully get over 'Sunny,' as everyone calls her. Unfortunately, upon arrival, he is beset by an entirely different challenge. Something is horribly wrong with Sunny, and he can't figure out what is going on. She's undergoing some kind of medical treatment, yet she's terrified, and everyone is being secretive about all of it. His protective instincts kick up and he is determined to get to the bottom of what is truly going on, and why his Sunny girl isn't smiling anymore.

The depth of the story is far more than I can reveal without giving too much away. But this goes into medical issues of the time, female diagnoses, medical abuse (socially acceptable at the time and otherwise), drug addiction, sexual difficulties, post-traumatic issues, domination and submission, social norms and obligations, and so much more. Not just issues with Sunny, but also things that James has to deal with due to his own history and upbringing.

James is a dream in how he patiently deals with everything. How he attempts to understand where everyone else assumes, the way he supports and embraces where everyone else censures and rejects. He doesn't rush Catriona when she needs time, and he's willing to listen even when he knows he will dislike what she has to tell him just because he understands that she needs to tell someone. He's an absolute dream, even when he's not being perfect, and I'd like to find where they keep the mold for that one!

I will caution that if you're at all unsure about the sexual/erotic side of erotic romance, or if you 'tolerate' it rather than embrace it, you may have difficulty. It's not just an erotic romance, but due to the medical issues and traumas that are also sexually related, the theme is pervasive. For myself, it was not a problem at all and felt very natural for that to be the subject, given the situation. However, if you're not comfortable reading a book which is not only sexually explicit, but frequently so, you might want to take a pass and find a different book by the author which isn't so sex focused --- or read the 'look inside' preview and see if it hooks you in, I know that's how it got me!

This book is going on my absolute favorites list for tackling these more serious issues, and doing it in such a good way. It brought plenty of tears, but I loved it to pieces. The only thing I'm disappointed about is that there's no paperback edition for me to stick on my shelf or beg the author to sign for me, who knows, perhaps in the future!

I love it when I finish a story and I have a big grin on my face! This is an excellent read!

However, I wasn't smiling for quite a bit of the story. My heart was breaking for Catriona “Sunny” Blayne. Abandoned by her strict, religious parents, the common born Sunny is “left in the care” of the wealthy Blayne family. Everyone feeds off her warm, sunny personality...hence the nickname, 'Sunny.' Two young Blayne men want Sunny. The manly James, who's in love with her and the sickly Freddy. James makes a move first, but it's Freddy that gets Sunny to the marriage altar. Heartbroken, James goes off to sea to fight for honor and glory, and determined to never fall in love again.

While James is away, Freddy succumbs to his illnesses; which leads James to return home to lead the family, and eventually become the Earl. However, to keep his distance from Sunny, James does not return to the family estate, but instead resides in London. Something he will come to regret.

Called to the estate by his aunt (Freddy's mother) to discuss sending Sunny away to rest and heal, James is taken aback to find the once young, carefree, girl he fell in love with is now a full figured, beautiful woman...who's going insane.

I have to admit, upon first meeting Sunny in the garden, her behavior had me teetering between laughter and concern. She goes from being calm and introspective around the roses, to near hysteria when she realizes James is there and they are...alone. My first thought? “This broad is crazy as hell.” But then you pick up on her desperation and frustration, and you realize you need to know what is wrong with this woman, how did she get this way, and is there hope for her sanity.

James has all these thoughts, and little else, especially after questioning his Aunt Frances. She insists that what ails Sunny is “a delicate matter” best left to the ladies...and Sunny's doctor, Meeker. The doctor who didn't bother to show up for the meeting with James and Aunt Frances. Knowing that he's being purposely left in the dark, James vetoes any plans to take Sunny anywhere until he speaks with her doctor.

And the battle of wills begins.

Everyone seems to know what's best for Sunny. Her mother-in-law wants her “well” and returned as her companion...the daughter she never had. The doctor wants to whisk her out of the country for rest and better access to the latest treatments and therapies. Or so he says. James doesn't trust Meeker or his aunt, and feels he's duty-bound to protect Sunny. She is, after all, his cousin's widow and can never be anything more as he's hardened his heart to her. Or so he says. What does Sunny want? If only she knew.

At times, we see glimpses of Catriona. We understand her pain. We want her to get better. But those moments are few, because the psychological undoing of Sunny has been brutal. The second class status of women and societal mores of the times, coupled with Sunny's strict, joyless upbringing of sacrifice and denial, compounded by her own guilt and self-loathing adds up to a monumental case of psychosis that would probably drive anyone mad. But, do mad people know they're mad? The only thing I feel Sunny is "guilty" of is WANTING...yet she constantly parrots the admonishments of Meeker (I just can't bring myself to call him Dr.) that her wicked, wanton nature of self indulgence and personal perversions will be her undoing. She's broken and unseemly. She must SUBMIT to his care in order to get better.(Personal perversions? Yeah, that's the pot calling the kettle black!) However, Sunny does speak up enough for herself for James to understand that she wants to go away and be out of Meeker's reach. James grants her requests and personally accompanies her. (The SCANDAL of it all!)

Sunny begins to heal slowly, but it seems the better she gets, the worse James gets. He is in total awe of her and bliss with her, even though he continues to insist (to himself) that he does not love her, and they have no future together. Sunny is unsuitable for an Earl's wife...but how about as a mistress? Would he dare? Their sex scenes are super hot and super steamy, but it seems to be James who's unable to maintain control. The anger that he has held towards those who kept her as a virtual prisoner now turns inwards on his own dark soul. Isn't he manipulating Sunny? Controlling her for his benefit and pleasure? Does he not crave her submission and will do anything to hang on to it? Of course, by this time, Sunny does a 180 and changes the game! LOL!

Just as I think I have this one all figured out, I look down and find out I'm only at 54% completion! Curse you, Natasha Blackthorne! My nerves will never survive this! LOL!

There are twists and surprises to make you sit up and say, “Whaaaat?” There are tender moments you'll never want to end. There are moments when you'll want to stand up and applaud Sunny! And, there are moments so vile and vindictive, you will find yourself sneering as you read them.

As characters go, I liked both Sunny and James. The times in which they lived, the families into which they were born, and the manipulations of others shaped their lives...much like any of us. But, can removing the manipulations of others let them grow into who they were meant to be...or who they need to be?

There are plenty of other supporting players. Meeker, whom I loathe, and Aunt Frances, whom I still haven't decided on. I don't feel she was a party to the evil done to Sunny, but she did have her own agenda. Did she turn a blind eye to get her way in the end or was she truly that naive and taken in by Meeker? This is a book #1 - will we see Aunt Frances again? De we really want to? I tired early on of dealing with the “ghost of Freddy.” To be fair, it wasn't entirely Sunny's fault that she was “seeing” him, but still. The more I heard about him, the more I felt he was an ass. And, I was right – called it! LOL!

This read is about the healing of Sunny, but it's also about the healing of James...and he didn't even know he needed healing. This story will trigger all your emotions, good and bad...and it is SO very worth it!

Was it supposed to be that way?

I've been lax in righting reviews unless I felt an immense need to vent either REALLY good or REALLY bad thoughts. For this book I became so incensed by the H and wanted to kick him over and over again! I began liking the fact that he was kind and understanding concerning the h's problems and deep seeded desires. But somewhere along the way her needs were forgotten and all he cared about was his needs. He never explained what he imagined their life would be like with the h and just assumed that life would go on as he decided...without one discussion with her. I hated him and unfortunately the quick wrap up at the end didn't sit well for me. GOD I wanted he to "grow some" and walk the hall away so much earlier in the book! Once her latex husbands child appeared and she discovered where he'd been and that he was keeping something from her, she should have packed her bags! Find a Governess job or go back home and put her foot down there!

I think I still see him as grime on the bottom of my shoe to be washed off. lol

Love this book.

I loved reading this book. James and Catriona knew each other from their younger years. Catriona married James's cousin, who ended up dying. Now a few years later they are both our into each other's life, he is now heir of Blayne Baronetcy and James gets a letter from a distraught aunt over Catriona's delicate situation and comes to find out how she has been mistreated, abused and drugged by those who she put her trust in to. I liked how James saved Catriona from the brink of madness and while saving her he saves himself as he himself wasn't treated the greatest while growing up and his heart broken when Catriona married his cousin.

One would think that from the blurb that this was a story of a wanton woman, but as the pages turn what is revealed is a woman of the times being manipulated by those around her and fear and drugs turning her grief into more. That is until in a moment of clarity she asks James for help. What progress is a story of a woman finally shaking off the lies and boundaries with help and lust.
A very nice read

Amazing

This is my last book of this author. Since I read the first a few weeks ago I went through them all . I have no words for how greatly written they are. All of them . I have no favourites as I can't choose. Great stories, great insights, dialogs, characters, hot scenes. Whoever wonders if to read it should not hesitate .

I really really wanted to like this book. I so enjoy Natasha Blackthorne's writing but this one I couldn't even get through the first part. The back and forth in the H and h's heads was so hard to slog through. I also kept getting so angry at H for his massive jealousy. I am sorry but I didn't get past 1/3 of the book. I was just sad because I really thought I'd enjoy the book.

What the actual F am I reading!?!? This is absolutely ridiculous… this is so bizarre… Her aunt and grandmother and doctor keep an eye on her 24 hours a day so she doesn’t pleasure herself? They drug her..tell her she’s wicked?? At the 35% mark.. all we heard about was James’ raging hard on and her wet leaking pu**y… I just cannot go on… My brain cells are fried —— DNF

Excellent read lovely characters and a beautiful portrayal of the Scottish accent I could almost hear them talking. The only thing that made me sad was the puir wee doctor dying of a shoulder infection. Should have hanged the beggar!

The Delicate Matter of Lady Blayne by Natasha Blackthorne
Book #1: Intimate Secrets Series
Source: Purchase
My Rating: 4/5 stars
My Review:

Since the death of her husband, Catriona Blayne has descended deeper and deeper into a melancholic state. Prior to her marriage, Catriona was bright and cheerful, always the light of any room she walked into, her disposition was such that many forgot her common-born status and adored being in her very presences. James, the new Lord Blayne was no exception to this rule. Unfortunately, James was not the man Catriona was destined to marry but he is the man destined to save her.

Catriona’s marriage was a sham if there ever was one. Her husband, Freddy was ill and unable to perform physically as a husband should. Bound to convention, social custom, and the mores of the period, Catriona was loath to stay from her husband but she was young and beautiful and her sexual desire was certainly at a peak. Caught in a most compromising position, Catriona has spent the last three years thinking her husband’s death was her fault and a direct result of her inability to control her sexual desire. Three long years later, Catriona’s desires are at an all-time high and her “doctor”, Dr. Meeker has convinced her she is shameful, wrong, and broken because of her desires. Convinced she can only be cured with the treatments, opiates, and punishments doled out by the good doctor, Catriona has become a shadow of the woman she once was.

James, now Lord Blayne has come home to take his place among the peers. He has served his country, he has taken his title, and is firmly set on a path that includes further government service, a proper wife, and heir to the Blayne title. Lady Blayne was not at all in his plans but once he sees the sorry state she is in, simply can’t turn his back on the woman he once thought he loved. James is a fearsome man and when he begins to ask questions about Catriona’s condition and treatment, he is horrified by what he discovers. Convinced Catriona is not broken and will heal if she is taken from the family home, James her packs her up and whisks her away to secluded location. What James doesn’t count on is the resurgence of his feelings for Catriona, her intense sexuality, and his desire to make right all that has been done to wrong her.

Over the weeks, Catriona not only begins to heal but she also begins to believe, truly believe she isn’t to blame for her desires, the abuse she has suffered, or Freddy’s death. In fact, the weeks spent with James are some of the most liberating of her life. With James, Catriona has a true sexual awakening and under his ministrations, she discovers a side of herself she never thought possible let alone considered unleashing. Though James thoroughly enjoys his time with Catriona and wants to keep her as his mistress, he knows that is all she can ever be as she is not suitable as a proper wife of the peerage. As it happens, so many times in life, James is on the brink of losing everything he didn’t even truly know he held dear until it is damn near too late. Catriona has a knack for finding trouble and almost as soon as she is set up in the city as James’s mistress, she finds herself right back in the clutches of Dr. Meeker. This time, however, Catriona is stronger and more determined to have her life and protect those she loves.

The Bottom Line: Yet again, I find myself somewhat confused by the overall star rating of this read on Goodreads. I won’t say this is a happy, easy read but it is a good read. There are a lot of uncomfortable themes touched on in this read including, the mistreatment of women, sexual and mental abuse, light BDSM and, affairs of the heart. In the beginning, Catriona is an extremely vulnerable woman who has relied far too heavily on others for her safety and well-being. Once she is out from under the “care” of those who abused her and safe with James, Catriona becomes a far stronger and more determined woman. James starts out a hero, quickly devolves into an asshat who is so consumed what everyone will think of him, and finally pulls his head out of his ass and makes Catriona his. In addition to James and Catriona, The Delicate Matter of Lady Blayne is filled with secondary characters who play a pivotal role in the plot. There are good characters and bad and each brings something unique to the table. The sex is good and varied (not for those who dislike BDSM) and the emotional roller coaster is just that, a wild ride through the gamut of emotions. In all, a fine start to a new series.

Lady Blayne

I adore Natasha's writing. This is no different.
Catriona seemed meek and unsure before James came back. There were so many factors that caused her to be that way. People made her think there was something wrong with her.
James showed her that there was nothing wrong with her, emotionally or otherwise. He helped her to see her true self, who she was meant to be. And of course some very sexy scenes mixed in. ;)

Sexy and Angst-Ridden!

Once again it’s hats off to Natasha Blackthorne for another fabulous sexy and angst-ridden erotic historical romance, which delves deep into the psyche of its characters and the sexual mores of the time. Indeed, The Delicate Matter of Lady Blayne, cuts straight to the heart of Regency sexuality and what was considered right and proper behaviour between a man and wife and how women should conduct themselves in and out of the marriage bed…. Double standards abound and the novel operates on a level far removed from the polite Regency veneer of many works set in this period.

Being familiar with Natasha Blackthorne’s work (I’ve previously read Her Mystery Duke which is equally complex, and angst-ridden and which I highly recommend) I was expecting both a scorching and emotional read and I can unreservedly say that this book delivers! I love tortured characters, and in this the female lead Sunny, aka Catriona, is as tortured as they come, the details of her past slowly revealing themselves to the reader and the hero James, the new Lord Blayne, as the story unfolds. I was as devastated as James as I learned of the trauma of her marriage and her life since the death of her husband Freddy, James' deceased cousin.

Catriona is no straight-laced Regency miss. She is a sensual and complex creature and has suffered greatly on account of her natural carnal desires. The novel explores a number of heavy themes: grief, guilt, death, abuse, (including drug abuse), dominance and submission and desires that at the time considered female debility and madness. A number of scenes brought tears to my eyes for what she had been through and her current situation.

The hero James is also a complex and tortured character in his own right and I loved his own emotional journey, as well as Catriona's as they work through the many issues that at the same time pull them together and apart. James is a man torn between his duty to the family and his growing love for Catriona, a woman proving herself to be most unsuitable as a wife. There are also a number of characters in the novel whom I despised with a passion as they attempt to thwart James and Catriona's HEA! indeed, this tale really pulls at the heart strings, it is so emotional! It also does not shy away from some very intimate scenes!

Readers of historical erotic romance not yet acquainted with Natasha Blackthorne will love this novel, which I also recommend to lovers of historical romance who are looking for a spicier read. Please note, a copy of this novel was given to me by the author for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

THE DELICATE MATTER OF LADY BLAYNE by Natasha Blackthorne is another wickedly delightful Erotic Historical Romance. #1 in the new and amazing "Intimate Secrets". What a beginning!

Fast paced with light sexual abuse in the Lady Blayne's past, sensual domination, spanking, light bondage, inner conflict, sensuality, passion, Rubenesque, angst, scandal, romance and yes, love.

Catriona, Lady Blayne, has been through it all, scandal, hurt, abuse, lost, grief, and angst.

James, the new Lord Blayne, and cousin to Catriona's late husband, is simply intriguing, hot, sexy as heck, strong, determined, and full of naughtiness. He is determined to help Lady Blayne find her passion, heal, forgive herself and those who hurt her in the past to find her HEA.

While this story, is an amazing Erotic, Ms. Blackthorne has once again, written a tale that is beautifully written, not just about sex, and domination, but a tale about a young woman's sexual abuse, the angst and grief that follows and her desire to overcome her hurts to find true love.

Ms. Blackthorne is an amazing storyteller, one who isn't afraid to write tales of the tough issues in life, afterall, that is real life. Life is not all roses, and fairytales. Readers: you will need tissues, I did, anyway. Catriona's story was tough to read at times, but a necessity, her courage and willingness to survive was amazing. The characters are powerful, compelling, endearing, realistic and lovable, well some of them. The storyline was simply fantastic, intriguing and naughty. I loved this story, the characters and yes, the storyline. Fans of Erotic Regency, bondage, Historical Romance will delight in the newest addition to Ms. Blackthorne's writing career. As I finished this story, and read "The End", now that was another of my WOW moments in reading. An absolutely wickedly delicious Erotic Regency Historical Romance and so much more! A must read! I can't wait to read the next installment in the "Intimate Secrets" series. Well done, Ms. Blackthorne!

5 Star Review

Catriona, Lady Blayne, is recovering from the loss of her husband, a young man who was too ill for the demands of their marriage bed. She fears this has driven her to madness. She is overcome with such severe grief and yet her sensual desires are becoming overwhelming. She is now faced with intense temptation in the form of the heir, her husband's cousin, James the new Lord Blayne. But there are people who want to keep Catriona hidden away to prevent scandal.

James is determined to protect Catriona but as he once felt that he loved her and she rejected him for his cousin, he refuses to fall to her charms yet again. As the new heir, he must marry a woman who is socially acceptable and even though he still feels strongly for Catriona, he knows that she isn't appropriate wife material for the new Lord. And yet, the lovely girl he knew eight years ago has grown into a beautiful curvaceous woman that he can't seem to get out of his head or his heart.

Each book by Natasha Blackthorne gets better than the last and this one is no exception. I would give this book six stars if possible. My heart broke for Catriona and everything that she was enduring at the hands of the people whom she was suppose to trust. She was deliberately fooled by her doctor who said he was helping her with what they termed madness due to her grief. When all she wanted all her life was to be loved, adored, and wanted by someone.

James fought his feelings for Catriona for years. He never forgot the young girl who first stole his heart. All through the wars he fought, she was always on his mind. When he returned and came to see the woman she had become, he knew deep down that he would never be able to just walk away and marry someone who society deemed fit. It truly took him almost losing her completely to really open his eyes to the life that he so desperately wanted to live. Can't wait to see what's next in the Intimate Secrets series.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC but that does not colour my review in any way.
Catriona had always been called Sunny, because that was her personality. But since her husband's death she seems to be losing her mind. She is under the care of a doctor who is treating her for hysteria.
James has inherited his cousin's title, but stayed away from the estate until his aunt summons him, because she fears for Sunny's mental health. The woman he finds is nothing like the beautiful innocent young girl who refused him all those years ago, and married his cousin.
This is an intense, emotional and sexy historical romance. It also gives us a taste of how some women where so repressed by the morals of the time, and how other unscrupulous people might take advantage of their naivety. Even the strongest of men could find themselves bowing under the pressure to do what is expected of them, instead of what they want or need.
I loved every page.

Too long

What is so sad about this book is that the author spends overlong on the same issue during the first several chapters...going over the same ground to the point of boredom. What might have been a very good book is bogged down with nonsense and repeated chapter after chapter. I don't know exactly how many times we are told Sunny married Freddie after turning James down, ultimately hurting his feelings and devastating him for the last several years. The same territory is covered ad nauseam. Midway through the book we finally get into what is actually some decent writing and storyline, only to be taken back into the same old evil guy gets his hands on the poor weak woman, once again, and saved just in time....blah, blah, blah.....back to boring! The 2 stars I generously gave were for that midway point where we have a good story. Sadly, I would never recommend the book, as written, to another person.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Delicate Matter of Lady Blayne. The widowed Lady Catriona Blayne is at the mercy of family members who claim to want the best for her. Instead, they've left her in the hands of the despicable Dr. Meeker who subjects young Sunny to unspeakable abuse in the name of treatment for her so-called hysteria.

Fortunately, her late husband's cousin James Blayne has returned to take his place in the family. He'd loved her when he was younger and she'd rejected him, choosing to marry Freddy instead. Realizing she is being mistreated, he endeavors to put aside his shame at her rejection in order to help her reclaim her life. All of this is set against the backdrop of proper Victorian society and mores.

The drama in this story is heart-wrenching. The characters have depth and feeling. The romance is hot. The Delicate Matter of Lady Blayne is a great book.

The Delicate Matter of Lady Blayne by Natasha Blackthorne

I really liked this book! It was different than the standard romance novel! The trials that poor Sunny had sufferer through at the hands of her mother-in-law and the crooked Dr.Meeker was devastating ,enough to drive anyone insane! Thank god James came when he did and took her away! I didn't Agree with some of his plans for her but once off the drugs the Dr. Had hooked her on she realized that she liked being dominated by James! He likes this idea too! I don't want to give anything away so I will just say that Catriona brought James to his senses and all turned out well. Very well written story! Natasha never fails to tell a good story in a very tasteful way ! Great book . I would recommend this book to everyone!

Enchanting

From start to finish this book is first and for most about love.....
Its been years since that night....he has blocked his heart from ever feeling such heartache again. Can he face her once more and this time be clear headed?
She married because she thought she was needed. But instead was surpressed and neglected. Now shes being "treated" for her grief. Can he save her? Is he willing to?
