I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
Sophie and Daniel have had hard lives and try to find a little happiness courtesy of the Widow Wagon. The wagon master provides safe passage for widows and delivers them to their prospective grooms for a price.
What worked/what didn't: What worked was the historical/western aspect of the book. The author provided great detail as far as the living conditions of post civil war life in rural America. I also enjoyed the domestic discipline aspects of Sophie and Daniel's relationship.
What didn't: The overwhelming amount of disasters that befell the couple, and the timeline issues. Most life events occurred within one chapter and the aftermath explained in the next while moving towards the next life event. I don't know how else to explain it.

I received a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads
I have enjoyed Megan Michaels Service & Submission series greatly, so when I saw she had another series to offer I scooped up the chance to read it! Even though historical romance is not usually in my wheelhouse.
I enjoyed the story of the recently widowed Sophie getting aboard the 1800's widow's wagon in pursuit of a new life after her quite dominant husband is killed by Indians. Sophie travels to Kansas to meet her new mail order husband, Daniel, via the widow wagon to start their new life. Daniel seems to love discipline as much as Sophie's deceased husband, much to her dismay and maybe, also to her delight! The erotic story that follows was classic Michaels with lots of butt tanning punishments and me wiggling in my seat. While I didn't feel the western aspect of the novel added anything to the story it didn't detract either. I was pleasantly entertained throughout.

Disappointing
I liked the premise of this book and was looking forward to reading not just this but the rest of this series, but I was really disappointed with the execution of the story. I knew this was a "domestic discipline" book and would involve some spanking, but it turned out to be one spanking and beating scene after another, with the story contrived around spanking, instead of spanking fitting into the story. In the very beginning, the wagon master spanks and then whips a young lady on bare bottom, and then spanks another that way the next day. The heroines new husband-to-be spanks her bare and touches her sexually several times before they're married. In those times, ladies would not have stripped for men they weren't married to, and no decent man would have asked them to. Unmarried couples wouldn't have stayed alone together in a civilized area. In addition, the hero states that he likes the heroine's sass, but he punishes her for any thing untoward that she says to him, even in fun; he punishes her for every little infraction, not making allowances for her to learn his ways; and he expects her to speak submissively to any and every male. His treatment of her goes beyond spanking to abuse.
I wanted a nice western erotic romance, with some spanking thrown in, but that's not what I received.

Although it is not often that I veer into historical romance, the blurb on this book had me intrigued. I got a simple romance with undoubtedly hard times thrown in, but mostly of spanking! It was an interesting departure from the normal in control businesswoman cedes to lover scenario. Sophie was a dreamer, and Daniel liked order and rules. There was however always a spark which made it work, and made it an easy read.

This should of been aptly named the spanking! Have a spanking fetish....please seek this book. It has all the spanking you will ever need written on numerous pages about...spankings. Very little plot as this book kills off one husband in colonial times and widow seeks a new one by mail order bride. Panty combustible if your deviance is spanking. Dominance and order... Three stars of entertainment!

I love historical westerns and I love spanking books. I do not particularly care for beating stories. This was more of a spanking/beating story with a little bit of plot added to it. Just not my cup of tea.

Well, I have to be honest… I don’t like westerns I find them hard to get into and hard to understand with the old language… but this was totally different. The Widow Wagon blew me away. I LOVED the characters, I was able to really connect with them and really feel for them. Sophie and Daniel turned out to be an amazing couple even though they had both loved and lost before. Their chemistry just sizzled between the pages as Sophie learned that she had to obey the rules from her new husband. He would spank her and spank her until she finally learned and then she was spanked some more. This has lots of yummy spanking scenes and some super sexy scenes in the barn and a wonderful story about two people who would really do anything for each other. This was a fantastic story!

Ms. Michaels Widow Wagon series are must reads for those who like erotic spanking romances that center around domestic discipline. Well written with authentic historical detail, and filled with hot erotic spanking scenes, these books will have you squirming in your seats!

I love spanking romance, I love kink, and I love western stories. I didn't care for this one very much though. The characters and the story itself just didn't have enough depth for me. I couldn't feel the passion or the love between Daniel and Sophie. It felt like the author was trying a little too hard to be sexy and kinky and it just came across as kind of awkward.

I really liked the premise for the plot of this book. Daniel and Sophie are both looking for the same thing, a spouse. When they meet each other the sparks start to fly because there is definitely chemistry between them. They are lucky, they meet as strangers get married and begin a journey to romance. Nicely done.

This is going to be a great book series.
Sophie is a childish, unorganized widow. Her new husband Daniel is organized and has rules to keep it that way. He is not looking for a farmhand, but a wife to love, laugh with and have his children. Their blooming love is sweet and a bit of kinky in the barn. (Fanning self).
