I was born and raised in Joliet, IL. I wrote my first story in the 3rd grade and fell in love with creating my own world. But throughout the years I have lacked the discipline to actually sit down and write. Even with a minor in Creative Writing (which should have been my major).
I have been a avid romance novel reader since Jr. High and have read hundreds. I have lived in Chicago, Japan, California and now reside in Arizona. And I wanted nothing more than to combine my love of romance, writing and traveling and put them in a book.
So one day out of the blue while in the middle of reading another book, the story that I had started months ago kept bombarding my every thought. Until I couldn't even continue to read the book I was in the middle of. I put down my Nook and picked up my laptop and about fifteen days later, I had finished my first draft of my manuscript. It was the most exhilarating moment of my life. To know that I finally did it. That I finally finished something that I had started. And now I'm and AUTHOR and PUBLISHER! I never would have thought that was possible three months ago. I just hope that everyone that picks up any of the books I write from here on out, enjoy them as much as I did writing them.

***ARC given in exchange for honest review***

Like any true fan of this glorious series, I am so sad to see it come to an end, but what an ending (no spoilers)! With that being said, this review is coming completely from the perspective of a fangirl of the series Damaged Souls.

The story picks right up where that heart-pounding cliffhanger of book 2, Open Wounds, left off, and we all want to know, will Sloan and Lexi survive the fallout?! It is rare that I become so emotionally invested in the welfare of fictional characters. What is wrong with me?! Twyla Turner writes with so much emotion and conviction that you can’t help but feel for what Sloan and Lexi go through individually and as a couple. I cannot stress how imperfectly perfect this couple is. Both wear internal and external scars that run deeply beyond the physical. All the while you’re reading, the sensible part of your brain is saying, there’s no way I could be with someone that effed up, but your heart is saying “Oh brain, just sit down and stfu!”

Both Sloan and Lexi rise out of the ashes like a phoenix as they begin to (finally) confront and deal with all the hurt and anger of their pasts as they try to forge a new path to love, and forgiveness, and healing. What’s so amazing about this entire series is that it doesn’t happen over a period of years, but just a few short months. While things move quickly, it never feels rushed. As a reader, you’re pleasantly reveling in the moment, engrossed in the lives of this couple whom you’re just routing for to work it out and to just be happy.

If you have not read Scarred (book 1) or Open Wounds (book 2), I highly recommend that you start from the beginning. Get to know who Sloan Stryker and Lexi Bolden are because you will just want to hug them, then shake some sense into them, and then hug them again. Oh the feels…the feels!!! Click it up!

Healed is honestly the most difficult book for me to rate/review out of the three books in this serial. After reading the book initially (almost a month ago), I was less than enthused with shenanigans in the book and was ready to write a review which expressed my less than favorable liking to the conclusion to Lexi & Sloan’s love story. Basically, the gif below summed up my initial sentiments:
description
After reading Healed a second time around items that initially bugged me didn't faze me the second time. After much consideration, I felt my initial assessment was unfair as Twyla Turner did an amazing job showcasing a damaged couple, their struggles, and progressing transformations throughout the serial.

As previously stated, I didn't initially enjoy this book as much as Scarred or Open Wounds which by the way was my favorite in the Damaged Souls series. What changed my mind? The music. Reading the lyrics and listening to the music associated with each chapter gave me a glimpse into the creative process of the author. After hearing the music it was like my eyes viewed each chapter in a new light. It was weird because when I initially read:
When she thought she had cried her last tears, more came.
I immediately thought of the song Yesterday (lyrics) by Mary Mary which is one of favorite videos. During my reread, I realized the music selection is indicative of the whole chapter, not a sentence or a section, and that’s when I read/listened to Stay and I cried. I could feel Lexi's heartache, frustration, anger.

Throughout this series I felt Sloan's devotion for Lexi. Healed was no different. Yes, he made some judgment errors but I still felt the love from him towards her. This is why I disliked the lack of communication Sloan showed Lexi when it came to their living situation .
description
I think the situation irritated me because they both came so far and I felt the strong connection these characters strived to obtain/maintain was just thrown away without batting an eye. But, this was necessary to get this scarred couple to their HEA.

I was disappointed in Lexi too. I didn't like seeing how easily she could be broken. I expected her to be stronger. I mean Lexi already chose to leave an abusive relationship, killed abuser, and now we see her . Really? This is what sends over the edge sort to speak? This was my initial assessment and I hate to sound like a broken record but I cut her some slack after the reread. Besides, she did pick herself up and get help.

There was only one scene in book that made me think would the character(s) really do this, and I'm still not sure. I'm not going to say what it is but will say it is in chapter 9. The only fault Healed displayed were the grammatical errors. The errors in this book was shocking for me because in reading the two previous books there were either none, too minimum to fuss over, or I just missed them. I like to think the previous books had none, so to see the amount of errors in the closing of this series surprised me. Examples of errors:
”What are saying, Sloan?”
”Oh. So… what it is? Lexi asked, curiously.
Little did she know that Sloan wanted the Elijah, just as much as she did, and she didn’t need to convince him of anything.
In Healed readers finally meet Sloan's parents and the woman who actually raised him. New and returning characters made not only this installment enjoyable but the series. Characters provided both drama and support that Lexi & Sloan navigated through. The epilogue made all the hurt, pain, & struggles worthwhile.

In the end, I give Healed a solid 4 stars for Lexi and Sloan achieving their HEA, the author's ability to show a couple who was committed to bettering their lives not only individually but as a couple as well, and for the author illustrating to readers even though these characters were scarred, and those scars turned into open wounds, ultimately they somewhat healed physically and emotionally. I recommend the series to anyone who likes damaged heroes/heroines, military vets, and storylines where individuals strive to overcome traumas, or to anyone who's a sucker for storylines that deal with forgiveness, loving yourself, and having faith.

****I was given an ARC for an honest review.****

I have been enjoying this 3 part story which has been an absolute joy to read!

We have finally come to the conclusion of Lexi and Sloan's story. Book 3 takes you on an emotional roller coaster of how this couple need to have the courage to finally heal their wounds!

The story picks up where book 2 left off. Just as we think it is safe to breath Sloan’s demon rears its head and puts our couple's relationship back in jeopardy. I did not like the choice that Sloan made to deal with this issue but I could totally understand it. He loves Lexi and he does not want any further harm to come to her, even if he is the threat.

Aaron or Victoria show up again in our leading couple’s life to make their own brand of total mischief and misdirection.

Again I found the story totally engrossing a real page turner. I am sorry this beautiful love story had to end but we have our happy ending and that is what I was rooting for.

I would highly recommend this 3 part story, which you need to read in book order, to fully understand and appreciate this engaging love story.

WOW!

I don't ever recall this happening to me before in the past, but every book in this trilogy has been a consistent 6* read for me.

I loved going on this journey with Sloan & Alexis
I have cried so hard. Happy & sad tears. I have blushed beyond the color of a tomato, several times. But no matter how heartbreaking certain aspects of this journey has been, I've always walked away with nothing but hope that things would right themselves.

This journey/trilogy truly is awesome.

Beyond Beautiful. Just a truly, truly touching, real, erotic & emotionally gripping tale about Hope. Hopelessness, faith, enduring, redemption, healing, & forgiveness.

Please read this trilogy. It is beyond all the expectations I had going into it. I HIGHLY recommend all 3 books.

Happy Reading :)

OMG! Where do I start? This was a emotional roller-coaster ride series. I have been in love with Sloan and Lexie from the beginning, both of their souls will cry out to you and have you hooked till the end. This book made me look at things in new lights. You really never know what a person can go through and overcome it too, pull themselves out of hell over and over. Then still try and want to help others, that take a special kind of person. Lexie and Sloan was them kinda people, they overcame PTSD together and was able to create beautiful things with their hands, Sloan with his renovation of homes. and Lexie's artwork was like no other. There was a few hiccups with his family and a slutmonkey( that should remain nameless Victoria)lol, but overall it was a beautiful story that ended well. I can't wait to see what this author does next. she does amazing work giving the underdog voice and shine the spotlight on them like hey I'm cool too, I love it.

I received this book as a ARC for my honest review. This is the final installment of a three book series. I am sad to see that this is the conclusion of Lexi and Sloan's story. It starts right where Open Wounds ended. This is a page turner that will make you cry, get mad and laugh. And it will have you rooting for them and cheering when the finally get their happy ending.

Aaron and Victoria make a brief appearance trying to start drama to break them up. I don't want to give too much away of the book for those who have not read it yet. I highly recommend this series. You have to read Scarred then Open Wounds to understand what they both have to overcome to find peace and happiness. Job well done Twyla Turner. So what do you have next coming out that I am dying to read.

I absolutely loved Lexi and Sloan's journey. The new love remodeled!

Twyla you had my heart doing flips! I was wrapped up in pain, humor, love, and faith. you created two amazing characters and I loved every single minute of it! This was an emotional rollercoaster for me. I cried and laughed, you even brought spice! you took two damaged people and turned them into superheroes. cliche, but LOVE conquerors all for this couple. I can't say enough. thank you for showing the evolution of love through pain, abuse, and scars until it is finally healed! I will love Sloan and Lexi always!

Book 3 picks up exactly where Book 2 left off. Lexi and Sloan have a lot to deal with. Sloan's ptsd episode causes a major break in the relationship and he no longer trusts himself with Lexi but she still trusts him but can't get him to listen to her. Book 3 was a kind of journey to self discovery for the characters both individually and together as a couple. Both Sloan and Lexi began therapy and they started to move on with life. They both had to deal with things from the past, including Victoria and Aaron. I was worried that they would not get the ending I felt they deserved but it all worked out in the end.

Perfectly Healed

The finale brings it all together perfectly. Lexi and Sloan are each other's anchors in a stormy sea of hurt, abuse, violence, death, each suffering from PTSD....Sloan's from war,Lexi's from a lifetime of physical and sexual abuse. These two found each at at their worst and they ended up being at the best by bringing out the essence of goodness engrained in their souls that no amount of pain and suffering could take away. Please get all 3books.....you will enjoy and be glad you did.

A Fitting Conclusion- BRAB ONLINE BOOK CLUB

We were introduced to Sloan and Lexi in Scarred and one just couldn't help falling in love with them. Two broken and scarred souls who meet each other at their lowest point and their journey towards healing has been remarkable.

The author has done a great job of taking her readers on this amazing journey of PTSD, domestic violence, homelessness and all the trials and tribulations. This was a journey of self discovery and perseverance. I love that in the end they got their HEA.

Beautiful

Such a wonderful ending for two beautifully flawed human beings!

The author delved into subjects no one wants to openly discuss; domestic abuse, PTSD, and self mutilation. These are difficult subjects to read about, let alone live through it but Ms. Turner did a phenomenal job in giving her readers realistic glimpses into the darkness so many people are mired in. Well-written beautiful love story of survivors...Kudos!!

I love Alexis and Sloan!!

Starting with Scarred introducing Alexis being beaten by her abusive boyfriend Eric, getting hospitalized and being strong enough to press charges and sending him to jail, and introducing Sloan as a homeless, scarred and wounded veteran with PTSD with his wolf dog who befriends Alexis and saves her from an attempted rape by two crackheads, and Lexi invites Sloan to stay at her house where he tells her about his contracting and renovating skills and helping her renovate her home...moving on to Open Wounds, where they both were working on Alexis' house and she was painting and their careers were going well until the night Eric decides to make his appearance known, thinking he was going to punish Lexi for daring to have him arrested and jailed, even though he beat her within an inch of his life, not knowing she was no longer afraid of him. I loved the fight scene with Eric and Lexi. He was so arrogant and just knew she was going to bend to his will. Boy was he shocked when she fought him back. I loved when she grabbed his junk and squeezed with all she had so she could get away and get to her gun. I screamed and shouted when she shot Eric's sorry ass!!! I gave Lexi a big high five! Even though she was free of Eric, and Sloan didn't witness the gunshot he only heard it, after they gave statements and the body was removed, they went to bed not knowing that Sloan was going to have a PTSD episode which would result in him doing the one thing he promised he would never do: hurt Alexis...which took me to Healed. Alexis and Sloan's careers were taking off but their relationship was done. Though they still loved each other, Sloan almost killed Lexi. She understood it was unintentional but Sloan couldn't forgive himself. It took another episode for him to seek help. Lexi sought help with her cutting with the same therapist, Dr Mills. Dr. Mills helped Sloan deal with his. PTSD and helped Lexi. Then came Victoria and Alvin trying to.break them up. Boy did that ever back fire on them! I loved this series soooo much! I loved that they were able to work on their issues and get back together. I loved that Lexi founded shelters for abused women and adopted the child of one of her clients. I also loved that she was able to be with her best friend Bianca, who managed to live after Eric beat her near to death. This trilogy is awesome. I love Alexis and Sloan so much!! Thank you for this story Twyla! You are awesome and you rock!!

A good finale for the series

I really enjoyed this conclusion to Alexis and Sloan's romance. Two broken souls finding solace in one another is such a beautiful thing, and this author perfectly wrote the ups and downs that these two faced. Just when things are feeling solid between them, something sneaks in to bring a divide between them.

This book was just as heavy as the last two because both Alexis and Sloan go through some big growth and healing. I love that no rock goes unturned and we get to see the raw, real, ugliness that often accompanies a rough backstory. In the end, I love how Sloan and Alexis made each other better. They built one another up, fully supported each other in their growth, ,and helped each other heal.

The happiness they deserve

Finally! Sloan and Alexis getting the happy ending that they both deserved was just as emotionally inspiring and nerve-wracking as expected. Loved this trilogy, loved the MCs and loved that they both got the chance to pursue their healing separately, despite how much that part of their story hurt.

I generally despise when miscommunication is used as a plot device, but pushed through in this scenario because when mental health challenges are involved, the lies we tell ourselves are usually more detrimental to our growth than our painful circumstances. I hoped the author would work through their negative self talk, doubts and fears and thanfulky brought Sloan and Alexis back together just as beautifully and scarred as they started.

Awww 💜

I love reading books that make me say, "Awwwww" when I'm done. This is an amazingly sweet story that had me rooting for the h/h. I love how 2 flawed people were able to find love and healed themselves in the process. They didn't use their past experiences as excuses. They rose above their flaws and succeeded.

I'm not putting any spoilers in this review because everyone should pick up all three books and just start reading them. I have never heard of this author before until I read this series but I'm definitely going shopping for more of her books. Thank you Ms. Turner for an amazing book.

Great ending

Great ending to the trilogy. So glad Sloan was able to work through his problems with the aid of a therapist. I didn't like the message sent by Alexis discontinuing her sessions. I believe she would have benefited greatly as did Sloan. Eventually they were healed and able to enjoy their life and love together. I deducted a star due to the author's decision to have Alexis stop her therapy. That was too powerful a statement when it was obvious a much needed course for her. Her history demanded it.

As a tribute to Ms. Twyla.

I started this series a while ago, but when I started this last book, I wasn’t emotionally ready to finish the series. I loved watching Sloan and Alexis grow and work on their relationship. It was so heartbreaking watching them break up and struggle to get back to each other. I wanted to catch Victoria in the ladies room. What an evil little troll! Anyway, I made it through and was so pleased I did. What a testament to the process of healing and trusting that progress.

This is one of the most amazing , breathtaking , down to earth , love stories I have read in a really long time. The real life situations and strength behind this couple is set in stone. They find true love and fight for it at all cost. No matter what walls or bricks come at them , they knock them down. The struggle in life try to take them out but in the end it so beautiful what joy they finally have because it's so real.
