Sometimes, the best way to earn back your son’s trust is to punch a homicidal, seven-foot-tall rabbit in the face.
James Harlow was not having a good time. After failing to drink away the pain of losing his wife a year prior, he has earned the hate of his son, Troy, in the process. Surprisingly, throwing more alcohol on that fire did little to help. Instead, he doubled down on the poor decision making and day drank himself into doing a little civic remodeling by crashing into a telephone pole.
Waking up in a hospital bed is one thing; being handcuffed and detained is another. Confused, hungover, and wildly underdressed, James is forced to watch aliens invade Earth on a tiny ER television. Which is when the invaders snatch his son up, live on-air. Then they snatch James up.
Now James must survive an insane game world on an alien spaceship full of magic, too-tight leather pants, and murderous woodland creatures. Sober, angry, and a little too mouthy, James is ready to do whatever it takes to find his son, and get off that ship. Even if it means playing nice with a space god.
Perfect for fans of Dungeon Crawler Carl or Discount Dan!
A Game of Level One starts a series full of deep character progression, unique monsters, and probably some demons (definitely some demons). There will also be unique items for James to discover, dynamic fight scenes, and human sounding dialogue.
5/5 - What the f*ck did I just read? When will there be more of it? - Royal Road review
Firstly Ill start by saying that this was written by a real live human rather than AI so it has that going for it. Unfortunately the main character is an idiot. He is written as suffering from ADHD but he is just stupid. Refuses to do the sensible thing just because someone told him he has to, refuses to learn how to craft health potions because its to much effort, refuses to use skills he is given just because. He is supposed to have trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but has no clue how to fight at all. I realise that there are people like this that exist, but they annoy the hell out of me in the real world as well so I dont want to be reading about them for entertainment.
I finally gave up at 50% after all the stupid things he did. Disappointing as it has potential.
