One thing about it…. I love a man who knows what he wants and ain’t stopping until he gets it. Hyphen played as long as she could before she had no choice but to surrender. Flocco is that NIGAAAAAAA

This was MID yikes…. definitely has the traditional urban feel but the characters lacked depth. It felt like we got urban scenes and themes but it didn’t flow in a way it felt authentic. Maybe that’s the purpose but ehhh Grey has written better urban themes books in my opinion (i.e., Lawe ). The plot twist at the end I kind of suspected something but not to that extent. Flacco definitely knew he wanted Hyphen and made it clear she just had to get with the program. Love the book cover.

This was a super quick novella that I used as a palate cleanser in between heavier reads.
Hyphen, recently broken up from her boyfriend is forced to move back to her old neighborhood of Dooley after living the suburban life. To make ends meet and to save up for the life she envisions for herself, she makes her money the best way she knows how-which is scamming men and taking them for all they have🤭
Then there’s Flocco, who’s been pining for Hyphen since before she left Dooley and he’s determined to make her his.
Hyphen and Flocco are a mess if you ask me😂

Selfish Love
Hyphen is back at square one, 4 yrs after she thought she was leaving the struggle of "hood life" behind. Now her one mission is to choose herself at all costs. She is in her selfish era and she refuses to ever be down bad because she messed around and trusted a 🥷🏽
Fate is crazy, because while she is in her scamming azz era, trying to fund her dreams she runs into Flocco. He is fine as wine and had claimed her as his since she touched back in Dooley, even if she refused to accept it. We love a man that knows exactly what he wants. Flocco was crazy about Hyph. He was just fine interrupting her motion and trying to get her to realize all she needed was him. Although, he wasn't her usual rich 🥷🏽 whatever he had he was willing to give and more importantly he showed up for her when no one else did.
I enjoyed their banter, their connection. The slow fall from Hyph because Flocco was clear.
I will say in the quest to be more "urban" it felt like every stereotypical hood storyline was mentioned and that felt forced. We had boosting, scamming, robbing, the strip club, a baby momma, Grandma watching the baby, a crack head momma and on and on. The writing is always solid, it was Grey coded but let the characters speak without all the outside noise of what Urban should look like. You can get that same feel, and you have with the Eisenbergs, with a lot less noise.
Either way it was a good read.

I really loved how naturally they fell in love. Flocco knew from the start that Hyphen was endgame, but he let her be a hot girl and do her while she slowly caught up to where he already was. 🥹
Hyphen was such a great FMC. She was the complete opposite of his peace, and he loved every minute of it. She had that man crashing out through Dooley.
I’ll definitely be rereading this one soon. Now I’m hoping we get a follow-up story about her friend because I need it!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ When Peace Finds Chaos

But seriously, this book completely pulled me in from the very first chapter. It has that effortless chemistry where you don't need over-the-top drama to convince you two people belong together. You just feel it.
What I loved most was that neither Flocco nor Hyphen tried to become someone else to make the relationship work. Hyphen was stubborn, guarded, and determined to do life on her own terms. Flocco never tried to dim that. He simply kept showing up, matching her energy when he needed to and giving her space when she needed that too. There was something really refreshing about watching a love story unfold without either person losing themselves.
And can we talk about Flocco for a second? That man had patience, confidence, and knew exactly when to step in and when to let Hyphen figure things out on her own. Book boyfriend status? Absolutely.
The dialogue felt natural. The banter had me smiling. I genuinely looked forward to every scene they shared. This is one of those books where the romance sneaks up on you because it grows instead of forcing itself.
I also appreciated that underneath all the Dooley chaos was a story about trust, timing, and finding someone who feels like home when life has convinced you not to believe in happy endings.
This book had heart, chemistry, and humor. And the setting?! I want to spend a summer in Dooley ASAP.

3.75⭐️ this was my first book by this author and it was such a quick and fun read! I loved Hyphen, ugh she was such a baddie and i loved how she was lowkey treating men LMAOOO like idk i was a stan. But the romance was fast paced and a little insta lovey. i would’ve loved a slower burn but that’s just a personal preference. Also, the end of chapter 10 really irritated me (iykyk) but this overall was fun and bingeable.

Ehh… I wasn’t sold. 😂 Hyphen (which is a horrendous name, I must add lol) being all in love and soft with a man just for him to cheat? And there’s no big argument—she just turns up the oven and leaves. Love it. 😂 Then she gets back to Dooley and meets Flacco, aka Laurence. I don’t think I enjoy the “I want you, and I’m going to have you” trope because he was just… too much for me lol.
For a novella, this dragged like a MF’er. However, I appreciated the twist. Zeek being connected in more than one way actually bumped my rating up a bit. That reveal was unexpected and made the story more interesting. Overall, it was a decent palate cleanser, but not one I’ll be thinking about for very long

This was kinda fun lol. I didn’t like the writing that much but it def kept me entertained.
Hyphen and Flocco were a mess ngl 🙃🙃🙃 I loved how Flocco aka Laurence was so down bad for Hyphen. Like he really put up with all her bs and still loved her. This was a damn good time. I wish it were longer 😂 Hyphen is THAT GIRL and “Lawrence” is that ngga — period ! I loved everything about this. This was actually my first read by Huffington and I am not disappointed. I need to read another.

She Couldn’t Escape The Inevitable
Wow ! Flocco & Hyphen had me ALL OVER the place in my feelings ! Flocco was not one to play with when it came to Hyphen. He made that known FIRST without any hesitation. Hyphen was so hard headed this whole book, but Flocco did not stop applying pressure when it came to her. The PLOT TWIST in this shocked me ! Didn’t even EXPECT that to be a thing ! I can’t lie, Hyphen & Flocco both equally worked my nerve at a point in the story, BUT I understood why each time both of them were thinking the way they were. This book definitely feels like an ode to black women, so many gems were dropped in this that I appreciate! The ending was definitely the cherry on top, LOVED IT. Flocco & Hyphen were certainly a TIME to read about.

G Huffington may have me back
This is my first Huffington book in a while, and it was really good. The drama and twist at the end definitely surprised me because I wasn’t expecting Zeek’s comeback to be that. Hyphen “Trouble” wore my nerves bad, but by the end I was rooting for her. Flocco, aka Laurence, was insane, but Hyphen matched his energy for sure. I hate that he reminded me he is human because, whew, he almost lost me. The ending line was iconic and really closed this book with a bang—overall, a good read, and I'm looking forward to reading more in this world.

It's definitely a different kind of good
Hyphen and Flocco were so much to deal with in one sitting. I love flawed characters. These two are perfectly flawed and synergistic at the same time. Hyphen was unapologetic about what she wanted for herself, and Flocco wanted her. Yes, the story is deliciously different.

Summer in Dooley gave me exactly what I wanted: messy chemistry, bold personalities, real community, and two people who were absolutely meant to collide.
Hyphen Stone was easily one of my favorite parts of this story. She came back to Dooley after a relationship that took too much from her, and instead of shrinking herself, she decided she was choosing herself. Her money. Her peace. Her wants. Her rules. And I loved that the book didn’t soften her to make her easier to digest.
There was something refreshing about watching a woman be unapologetically selfish after spending so much time being conditioned to nurture everybody else first. Hyphen was a reminder that women are allowed to want more, ask for more, and put themselves first without carrying guilt behind it. She definitely had me thinking about how often women are taught to give until there is nothing left for themselves.
And then there was Flocco.
That man wanted all of Hyphen—the attitude, the selfishness, the sharp edges, the stubbornness, all of it. He wasn’t trying to fix her or water her down. He was completely gone over that woman, and watching him give her exactly what she needed without making her feel like she had to become someone else first was everything.
Their chemistry was magnetic. Hyphen and Flocco were both bold, slightly unhinged, unapologetic, and somehow perfect for one another. The man was not coming up off her once he finally got his chance. 😂
Hyphen’s breakup also gave me serious Waiting to Exhale energy, and I spent a good portion of the book waiting for her ex to circle back. When he finally did, it definitely wasn’t pretty—but Flocco handled business.
I also loved Hyphen and Saga’s friendship. Those two were basically Siamese twins in chaos. Their banter, loyalty, and willingness to show up for one another made their friendship feel just as important as the romance. They absolutely deserve men who are completely crazy about them.
Dooley itself felt like a character too. It wasn’t polished or perfect, but that was the beauty of it. It felt like the everyday neighborhoods many of us know—the kind of place with rough edges, complicated histories, community ties, humor, and its own unmistakable identity.
This wasn’t a story that needed hundreds of extra pages.

Read Summer in Dooley by Grey Huffington this past weekend … short, sweet, and entertaining! I definitely enjoyed seeing how they got down in Dooley! 💕
Hyphen was THAT GIRL! She had a plan, and she’d be damned if anything—or anybody—got in the way of it. Every time she and Saga started talking about these ninjas and her run-in with the law, “Spend Dat” immediately started playing in my head. 😂 Like, sis…how did we get here?! LOL.
After everything Hyphen experienced in her previous relationship, she definitely saw men—and love—differently. She had rules on top of rules, and honestly, I understood why! Those boundaries were her way of protecting herself and making sure she never lost sight of who she was or what she wanted again. Flocco may have been ready to break every one of them, but Hyphen wasn’t about to abandon herself just because the feelings were there.
And Flocco? He was about his girl! I loved watching him become vulnerable, clearly profess his intentions, and show Hyphen exactly what he wanted. But I also respected Hyphen for standing her ground and recognizing what she needed to do for herself before giving her heart to someone else.
The way this story started versus how it ended was definitely a twist! I kept wondering if we would learn more about how she left Zeke—and when that part of the story finally unfolded, I was like, “I know that’s right!” 🔥 Play with fire, and you just might get burned. 🤭 #IYKYK

2.5 ⭐️ This was a quick read that imo was likely geared towards the 21-25 yo crowd. It’s about a ghetto fabulous hood rich summer in Dooley. Hyphen and Saga are friends who were outside doing ratchet ass shit. Scamming, plotting, and scheming…Flocco shows up intent on making Hyphen his. Outside is canceled!
Idk, this was mid. To start, I couldn’t get over the names - Hyphen, Saga, Flocco…? What’s next, Colon, Series…??
The highlight of the story was 1. Hyphen and Saga’s friendship! 2. The sex scenes were on point 👏🏾!🔥 (I wasn’t looking for this, it was just done oh so right) 3. The cover is stunning! I love the 90s vibe im getting, and the stunning yellow/blue/gold combo!!
What brought Hyphen to this lifestyle? Was it just one cheating occurrence? Why would she leave the biggest bag, and go back to the hustling lifestyle? If I’m reading about scamming, i want the full experience. Not just the beginning of a setup before a maniac wanna be boyfriend shows up to stop it! There was no type of romance element. Flocco just shows up, whenever Hyphen was around another man, carrying her away.
I didn’t get a feel for Dooley. What made Dooley such a special, memorable place? I really didn’t get much of a feel for the characters either. I only know they were young based on their actions and dialogue.
Saga was more of a distant character, where I feel the story could’ve benefited from her being more of a main character, not just a “friend of”. There was such a plot hole with the Zeek situation.
Mine is an unpopular opinion, but I recommend you read it and form your own opinion 🫶🏾
Idk, this was mid. To start, I couldn’t get over the names - Hyphen, Saga, Flocco…? What’s next, Colon, Series…??
The highlight of the story was 1. Hyphen and Saga’s friendship! 2. The sex scenes were on point 👏🏾!🔥 (I wasn’t looking for this, it was just done oh so right) 3. The cover is stunning! I love the 90s vibe im getting, and the stunning yellow/blue/gold combo!!
What brought Hyphen to this lifestyle? Was it just one cheating occurrence? Why would she leave the biggest bag, and go back to the hustling lifestyle? If I’m reading about scamming, i want the full experience. Not just the beginning of a setup before a maniac wanna be boyfriend shows up to stop it! There was no type of romance element. Flocco just shows up, whenever Hyphen was around another man, carrying her away.
I didn’t get a feel for Dooley. What made Dooley such a special, memorable place? I really didn’t get much of a feel for the characters either. I only know they were young based on their actions and dialogue.
Saga was more of a distant character, where I feel the story could’ve benefited from her being more of a main character, not just a “friend of”. There was such a plot hole with the Zeek situation.
Mine is an unpopular opinion, but I recommend you read it and form your own opinion 🫶🏾

3⭐️. I think this book was slightly overhyped due to the beautiful cover .
Hyphen is a FMC that I’ll always support. She didn’t believe in staying with someone who didn’t serve her. That prologue was EVERYTHING. A summer in Dooley was supposed to be a fun time with her girl saga. Trickin niggas & taking their money.. instead she runs into Flocco & he changes the whole trajectory of Hyphen summer. .
Flocco ass was crazy lol. But I liked his craziness. He wasn’t playing with Hyphen when he said if I catch you with a nigga ima rob him lol. & believe Flocco indeed Robb niggas for hyphen. I loved how he always communicated what he wants & didn’t shy away from it.
Now while I liked the character… I found the story itself to be boring. The book was 196 pages & normally I can read that in one setting but this book didn’t pull me in the way I thought it would. I found myself wondering what was the author goals with this one. It used all the cliche themes in Urban Fiction but didn’t use them well enough in this story. The prologue was probably the most interesting part of the book honestly.

Their chemistry was so good, and I was hooked from start to finish. That connection between Zeek and Flocco still has me thinking! I enjoyed this book so much, and now I’m hoping we get a Saga and Sully novella because I definitely need more of them. 🥰

Ehhhhh... Might be on the overhyped side. Now don't get me wrong, loved Flocco's toxic ass down! Skip the games, I know what I want, but he didn't let up off the brakes! Hyphen didn't show much growth, and the plot rushed by so quick. We respect boundaries, so her letting Flocco know what it was from the jump was right, but then that denial crept in, and she was up under a nigga again. To me, the growth for her never came. She got the money and the man, so I guess. She is in school, but I guess... just not what I was expecting.

This was definitely a quick and messy read. 6% in I was like lord this is gonna be crazy … FLOCCO was all gas no brakes when it came to Hyphen he was plotting on her before his world was flipped so he wasn’t let up this time.
Baby I love when women live their lives for them and no one else… many women loose themselves and that light trying to make everyone else happy shidddd not Hyphen !
