I don’t date players. I don’t date a**holes. And Lucas Black, gorgeous billionaire and heir to the Black Media empire, is both.
So I am NOT dating him.
Not even if he hires me so he can order me around like a servant girl on a leash. Not even if he looks at me like he wants to rip my clothes off with his eyes. Not even if he pushes the line with me, farther and farther.
Not even if I’m starting to like it…
Stephanie Hart learned the hard Never depend on a man for anything. She’s the one in charge of her business, her family, AND her love life. Until Mr. Black shows up…
Lucas Black never met a pretty girl he didn’t want to f*ck. Problem is, Steph Hart isn’t a girl to be f*cked with. If she didn’t have such delicious curves, he might be able to forget her…
Will Lucas be able to tame Steph into submission before he loses her forever?
I really loved this book everything seems to flow so perfectly together making it so easy to read Aubery Dark is such a good writer love all her books.
Mr. Black's Proposal is a spin-off of His Gift, parts 1-3 and His Ransom, parts 4-6 that feature his friend Jake and Lacey; the woman he falls in love with after having mistakenly assumed she is a submissive for hire/birthday present from his friend, and not the cake delivery girl that she really is.
Despite what the blurb tells you, this isn't really the story a dom and a sub, unless you count some mild spanking in the last two installments and a little ordering around in the bedroom. (Again, very mild.) Instead, this is the story of how Lucas Black falls head over heels for Lacey's friend, and sometimes boss; the fiercely independent Steph - small businessowner/ cake baker extraordinaire. Steph is quite possibly the only woman in town unwilling to date/f..k/marry one of the most eligible rich dudes in town.
For the first time in his life, Lucas really has to work for what he wants, and the fact that one gorgeous model after the other keeps disrupting his efforts to seduce her, doesn't exactly endear him to Steph.
I won't spoil the ending for you, but needless to say, this is a fairly typical romance where the dream guy goes for the ordinary girl instead of the stunning beauties who surround him. But hey, I'm not complaining, since it never happens in real life (and especially not to two girls simultaneously) I don't mind reading about private jets, designer gowns and opulent proposals. That's why it's called escapism, right?
I don't understand that this is listed as Dark and BDSM, there's absolutely nothing dark about it, and as far as bdsm goes, there's just a hint but nothing to qualify this short story into this genre. So the tags are pretty misguiding if that's what you're looking for.
Cliffhanger at the end, it's a three part story. I very much liked His Gift, the MCs there have off the charts chemistry but that's not the case with Lucas and Steph, I found it difficult to see the spark between them as believable. Perhaps the rest of the trilogy takes a different direction and there's more character development that might improve my first impression.
Love that Ms Dark's female characters are plus sized/curvy, it's a great reprieve from all the super skinny heroines written by most authors (considering that most of the population doesn't fit with that description). Variety is the spice of life.
Stephanie is a conundrum for Lucas Black. Lucas is that playboy, can get any woman he wants but when he crosses paths with Stephanie, well, he may have met his match. Stephanie's first impressions of Lucas aren't stellar, 2 different woman in the same day but his eyes, that grab her is making it hard for her to forget him. Lucas is captivated by Stephanie, he is very controlling and he senses a true submissive spirit in Stephanie, even with all her strong willed independence. I love Stephanie's pure grit to push forward through anything, she so desperately doesn't want to repeat the mistakes her mother made. Lucas truly frustrates her because she isn't used to giving up control yet, he seems to make her melt. Of course, his playboy ways, it is funny experiencing Stephanie's not holds barred approach to doling out her opinion to Lucas … pretty sure no one has ever done that to him before. This is a great mix of personalities which has given me something to root for.
I could not connect. The dialogue felt awkward and the connection forced. At 8%, the hero gave the readers a lesson on the best way to build muscle during a workout. I felt like I was reading a health magazine. Dual POVs. Switch at every chapter.
I love heroines who own little shops and especially bakeries but I could not connect. Great premise, but did not work for me. May work for you.
If you haven't read 'His Gift' by Aubrey Dark, then read that first followed by 'His Ransom' this book intertwines with the series. I love how this book goes back into the other books to give more of a history with Lucas and Steph, it's a great first book to this spin-off series.
I love this story! I recommend reading the "His Gift" series by this author first, but this can be read without it. Stephanie runs a cupcake bakery with her younger brother. In walks Lucas Black and the chase begins! He can't get her out of his mind and she does everything in her power to resist being another notch on his bedpost. I won't spoil this, but I will say that it is definitely worth the read and I am ending this review now so that I can start part 2!
I like the dual POVs between Luca and Steph. It gives me a better connection to the characters. It's a fun, easy read. If you're a reader who likes funny, erotic and easy reads, you'll really like this book.
This is a very good book I love my billionaire books. This one was awesome Lucas playbook through and through but meets his match in Steph well she fall for his charm are not. We will see.
So nice to see Steph and Lucas'point of views during one of my fave parts of A Dark Billionaire series. I wondered what happened with them during that part of the series.
Lucas is a demanding dick and Steph hates his guts or dose she??????? Lucas and Steph have a love that white hot read at your own risk ladies. You may get burned by Mr. Black
This book was really great. I found it short but definitely worth the read, the story of Stephanie and Lucas.
Stephanie is a strong, independent business woman, and there is a reason why she ended up being too independent (but I'm not going to delve into that for now). She owns her own bakery in Manhattan, hand-makes all her products and is very proud of what she accomplished (who wouldn't? lol). She runs the bakery with the help of her younger brother, Andy. One day, someone walks in that makes her heart pound a million beats a minute, makes her breath rush, and she doesn't know what to do or how to react. This 'someone' is... you guessed it, Lucas Black.
Billionaire photographer Lucas Black or, as he liked to be called, "Mr Black" accidentally walks into Steph's cupcake shop with his date and, for some reason, he felt linked to Steph. He felt a strong connection he couldn't explain, but he had a feeling (and trust me, I had too) that Steph was going to be a challenge. See, Steph as I said earlier, is attracted to Mr. Black, and he can tell she is, but she doesn't trip over her heels in trying to please him (unlike every woman he's ever slept with), which makes her an interesting conundrum.
So this is the beginning of their trilogy, we see their confusion and reaction to passion that ignites between them, their funny moments (and trust me, there's a lot throughout their story...lol)
Snarky scene between one of his 'women' and Steph:
"Lucas Black is no angel, but he has his standards. You think you're going to be able to sneak your way into his pants but you're wrong." Steph's response? "It looks like it's plenty crowded in Mr. Black's pants already."
See? I love her snarky, funny, and independent attitude. Makes for a funny read.
Steph owns a cupcake business and meets Lucas Black a billionaire. Lucas is interested in Steph and and tells her he wants to tame her within 5 minutes of meeting her. She is appalled. and I thought oh, this might go somewhere. There are allusions throughout that he's a dominant of some kind -- as if this is so commonplace -- and she's just going to comply... and given her fiesty independent streak, I was hoping she'd say no. BUT, the rest of the book is filled with cliches so why should sleeping with him be any different -- jealous vapid rich girl tries to sabotage things, the H manipulates situations in order to try to seduce her, the h says no no no until one night...I'd really like some changes to this formula.
This is definitely erotic, Lucas Black is some sort of dominant/alpha, so there's that. BUT
Can't we find a different name for sexy billionaires?? I believe his name -- first and last has been done over and over again. Why do all sexy billionaires need to play at BDSM in this genre? It's getting ridiculous. I thought all of this might be redeemed by quality of writing, or the chemistry, but I'm not feeling it. He comes off as arrogant and selfish and that's not attractive at all. Also, what's the deal with the proposal?? I don't believe there was one between Lucas and Steph... so huh?
Mr. Lucas Black came in to the Cupcake Shop with one of his ladies Stephanie could tell that he was a billionaire playboy she also knew that she would have nothing that the woman who look like model would want and it was true but it seems that Mr. Black was quite taken with Steph you will remember that Steph is the best friend of Lacey and Lucas is the best friend to Jake from (His Gift) she is attracted but knows that their could be nothing serious with a man like him and she can tell when he comes back to the shop by himself and claims he wants to buy a cupcake and tries to come on to her while the woman he came in with is who knows where but Steph is having none of it she just happens to meet him again at Jake's going away party and can't keep her eyes off him but the new lady Lucas has brought to the party makes it clear that Steph is to keep her paws to herself because she nor her brother or even Lacey belong there in the first place Steph is pretty sure she is right. This is a cute 3 book series and you may or may not be surprised that what they do next since they both want us to believe that he wants a one night stand and he can move on she wants a relationship but doesn't want to admit she wants more than he is willing to give. Lol. Adults 18 and older.
DNF @ 89%. I just couldn't stop my eye rolling after 66% where the h, Steph, said "I wonder how long it would take Lucas to propose". It was way premature, and once they finally become intimate she saw "love" in his eyes when they had hardley any meaningful interactions to establish those type of feelings. I hate being so harsh, but this is a series and so the separate books are on thee shorter side and so making those type of jumps seemed way too quick and underdeveloped. I don't mind "instalove" every once in a while if it's done right, but I don't think this is the way to do it...sorry.
This book was ok. She a cubby or curvy whatever you want to call it baker. She got a backbone but then she kind of whinny. She always want to do things on her own blah blah blah. Anyways she meets Mr. Black who a man whore. He falls for her quick and it's funny he's like a lost hot guy trying to figure out how to date a girl. She annoying when she keep taking about how he see model everyday and how skinny they are. I mean I'm skinny but if I was curvy I'll would have an attitude and say back to belle I got boobs and back something he can grab on but there was none of that. The author made her seem like a weak fat chick but keep writing about how much Lucas like her big.
Having read the "His Gift" series first, I was interested to see what other characters, Aubrey would explore next. We are introduced to Lacey's (from His Gift) best friend, Stephanie, who is struggling to keep her cup cake business operating. Stephanie meets Lucas Black, who is a play boy and is fascinated by Stephanie when she rebuffs his advances. Great chemistry throughout the book between the two characters and with fab writing, you quickly connect to both characters, allowing for a good, easy read.
This guy is so very hot unfortunately we have to wait for his brain to grow...you see even though our female mc is snarky and a smart funny girl Lucas black is shallow. If he pumps anymore iron it might explode his head. On that note...I was hooked! I quickly bought book 2 and 3 and I'll tell you why. Character development is a beautiful thing and at the end of this story it will be so worth it. I can't wait till she makes one book out of all these serials because I hate buying them one at a time. Which is why I stopped at 3 and have to reread all of these another time to buy book 4. Sigh....
Really enjoyed reading this book. I would read the His Ransom and His Gift series first as there are returning character's, but you do not have to to understand this book. Now I'm looking for Clint's book to round out the friends!! This isn't the typical alpha billionaire Dom book and I liked that. I liked that Steph was strong willed and didn't just give into Lucas' every command! I'm not sure what happened with Belle though. It was like this build for a conflict that never happened. Overall a great read!!
Lucas and Steph have made me laugh, smile and clench my fists with the desire to strangle them, and I love the deeper insight into Steph's bakery and her younger brother, Andy. They seem to lack the chemistry that sparked between Jake and Lacey, but I'm waiting to see if it manifests as their relationship grows.
I enjoyed the story, but as a whole it needs work. The storyline is okay, but the characters need a lot more development. We know from the beginning that Steph owns a bakery, but you have to read and guess T what Lucas does. Also, was he born to money or what? More background is needed on all the characters, they are way to vague.
