A prominent scientist is assigned to a underground research station to investigate and explain a mysterious Dark Sphere. He soon discovers it has some unusual properties and some unusual effects on the other scientists within the station.
When I got this for free I knew that I was facing a quick read and didn't have the expectations I would have had if this was a normal book. Still, I was disappointed.
The whole storyline is rushed. Sadly, because the idea and the whole setting is quite intriguing. It was the reason why I gave this story a chance at all. However, due to the rushed story telling and partly much too long phrases, there was no chance of really getting into the story. Most things are left unexplained and the ending, which probably was intended to shock or surprise left me unimpressed.
This would have been a perfect thriller if the author would have taken the time to slowly develop it. Yes, In short stories one rarely dives deeply into the characters, but it's still needed so the reader does invest himself.
Long story short: fascinating idea, mediocre realization.
