ARC Review | Honest Review in Exchange for an Advance Copy

There are some thick fantasy books out there that have absolutely no business being as long as they are because, despite the page count, there’s very little substance to them. This was NOT one of those books.

What I appreciated most was how much intention went into every aspect of this story. From the inclusion of same-sex relationships to characters of color, the representation was beautifully and naturally woven into the world. It never felt like diversity was being showcased for the sake of checking a box or making a statement. These characters simply existed, belonged, and contributed to the richness of the story. And THAT is what made it so wonderful. The representation never overshadowed the fantasy because it was already an authentic part of it.

But the worldbuilding? Absolutely magical.

There is something so special about experiencing a fantasy world through the eyes of characters who are discovering it for the first time. I genuinely felt like I was entering this world alongside them, taking in every unfamiliar detail, every interaction, and every new discovery. It was almost trance-like how easily I became immersed in their experiences.

And what made that immersion so successful was that I was SHOWN this world rather than simply told about it.

From the creatures and animals to the magical gifts and the fascinating concept of mates, everything unfolded so organically. The author didn’t rely on lengthy explanations or overwhelming terminology to convince me that this world was extraordinary. Instead, I got to experience what made it extraordinary through the characters themselves.

But what truly elevated this story beyond its beautiful worldbuilding was the emotional devastation of its conflicts and betrayals.

Oh, the emotional turmoil this book put me through!

The relationships were complicated, the decisions were morally questionable, and the betrayals were absolutely gutting. There were moments when I didn’t know who to trust, whose intentions to believe, or whether I even agreed with the characters I was rooting for. And I LOVED that.

What made these conflicts so compelling was that they weren’t simply there to create drama. They carried emotional consequences. Every questionable relationship, every difficult decision, and every betrayal seemed to unravel another layer of the characters and the world they inhabited.

And the political climate? SO incredibly well developed.

I loved how the political tensions came to be, how the history and circumstances shaped the world, and how those influences trickled into the characters’ relationships, loyalties, and decisions. The politics weren’t just some distant backdrop to the fantasy. They were deeply intertwined with the conflicts, making every choice feel that much more consequential.

There was something almost intoxicating about watching it all unfold. The emotional tension, the uncertainty, the shifting loyalties, and the constant questioning of what was right or wrong made this story genuinely mesmerizing.

I was emotionally invested, completely consumed, and absolutely incapable of putting this book down.

I wanted answers, but I also dreaded what those answers might mean for the characters. I wanted to trust certain relationships, but the story continuously challenged that trust. And I wanted to believe the characters would make the right decisions, even when I wasn’t entirely sure what the right decision was anymore.

THAT is the kind of emotional complexity I crave in fantasy.

I also loved that this wasn’t another fantasy built around the familiar dragons, fae, and magical systems we’ve come to expect from the genre. Don’t get me wrong, I love those stories too, but there was something incredibly refreshing about stepping into a world that felt different, imaginative, and entirely its own.

The length of this book felt earned because the pages were filled with actual substance. The details weren’t there just to make the world bigger; they made it feel alive. And the conflicts weren’t there just to move the plot forward; they made me FEEL every consequence along the way.

This is what I want from an immersive fantasy. A world I can lose myself in, characters who challenge my emotions, relationships that aren’t always easy to understand, and political conflicts that make every revelation feel earned.

A story that doesn’t just entertain me but completely consumes me.

And this one absolutely did.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an advance copy in exchange for my honest review!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A little piece of magic that I wish I could experience for the first time all over again. ❤️

I honestly don't know where to begin because I have so much love for this book.

Echoes of Almeira: The Rise of Dawn was such a wonderful reading experience. From the moment Elizabeth and her friends stepped through that mysterious door, I was transported into a world that I found myself becoming increasingly attached to. The world-building, the magic, the friendships, the mysteries, the conflicts and the characters all came together to create something truly special.

Elizabeth was such an interesting character to follow. Watching her discover her abilities, navigate an unfamiliar world and gradually find her place in Almeira was one of my favourite parts of the story. I loved seeing her grow, discover her strength and face circumstances that demanded far more of her than she could ever have anticipated.

And then there's James. Oh, James! ❤️

The connection between Elizabeth and James was one of the highlights for me. There is something incredibly beautiful about the idea of two souls being connected across worlds, as though they were always meant to find each other. Their relationship, the tenderness between them and the way their love develops amidst prophecy, uncertainty and conflict made their story particularly special to me. I found myself rooting for them and genuinely invested in what their future would hold.

I also appreciated that the book gave its other characters room to shine. April and Grant's relationship, Sinade's personality, Lynx's journey and the friendships shared among the group added so much warmth and humour to the story. These characters felt like more than just companions accompanying Elizabeth on an adventure; they made Almeira feel alive.

One thing I particularly enjoyed was how the story balanced its romantic elements with adventure, mystery, political conflict, magic and the question of destiny versus choice. There was always something happening, something to discover or something to look forward to.

And the world itself! The descriptions of the landscapes, forests, waterfalls and extraordinary natural beauty made it so easy to imagine Almeira. I genuinely loved getting lost in that world.

Shay Palmeira, thank you for creating a story that reminded me why I love reading. There is something so special about finishing a book and wishing you could return to the beginning just to experience everything again. That is exactly how I feel about this one.

I am so glad I got to meet Elizabeth, James and the rest of the Seven. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Almeira, and I am certainly not ready to say goodbye.

Five stars, with all my heart. If you're a fan of fantasy, magic, meaningful friendships and a beautiful love story woven into an adventure, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this book a chance.

Almeira has a special place in my heart. 🥹❤️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Rise of Dawn by Shay Palmeira

Some books entertain you, some capture your heart, and then there are books that pull you into their world and refuse to let you go. The Rise of Dawn was definitely one of those books for me!

Shay Palmeira has created a world filled with magic, royalty, secrets, betrayal, and enough tension to keep you turning the pages because you NEED to know what happens next. As a fantasy lover, I absolutely loved getting lost in this world, and the characters definitely made sure I had plenty of feelings along the way! 😂❤️‍🔥

One thing I really enjoyed was the political tension between the royals, the way power and titles seemed to matter so much, and how quickly things could change when trust was broken. Some characters had me raising my eyebrows, others had me questioning their every move, and certain moments genuinely made me want to scream at the book! The betrayal, especially, added a whole new level of emotion to the story and left me wanting answers.

I loved how the story kept me emotionally invested. Just when I thought I had things figured out, another moment would come along and make me rethink everything. And let's be honest, I LOVE a fantasy story that gives me plenty to think about, characters to argue with in my head, and plot twists that make me want to throw my Kindle across the room! 🤣🐉

Shay has laid the groundwork for a story with so much potential, and I am genuinely excited to see where this journey goes next. The world, the conflict, and the complicated relationships have left me curious about what comes next and how everything will unfold.

The Rise of Dawn is a great pick for readers who enjoy fantasy, royal intrigue, complicated loyalties, and betrayal that makes you feel ALL the emotions.

Shay Palmeira, thank you for letting me experience this story! I have definitely had things to say while reading, and that is always a good sign. 😂❤️ I am looking forward to seeing what happens next because I NEED answers!

✨ A fantasy read that kept me invested, gave me plenty to react to, and left me curious for more. ✨

The Rise of Dawn by Shay Palmeira ✨📖

What starts as a mysterious doorway quickly becomes a journey into a world filled with magic, secrets, ancient prophecies, and unexpected connections.

The Rise of Dawn introduces readers to Almeira, a world where elemental powers, political tensions, and the weight of destiny create a much larger story than the characters could have imagined.

One of the most interesting aspects of the story is Elizabeth’s journey. She finds herself caught between forces far beyond her understanding, and her growing connection to Almeira brings questions about power, trust, sacrifice, and the choices that shape our futures.

I also appreciate that the story doesn’t revolve entirely around one character. The friendships, developing relationships, and different perspectives add layers to the adventure. There’s a combination of magical discovery, emotional connections, danger, and romance woven throughout.

The world-building is ambitious, with its own history, creatures, magical abilities, and competing interests. The story also explores an interesting question: Is destiny something we must accept, or something we can choose to change?

For readers who enjoy portal fantasy, elemental magic, found family, prophecies, and a touch of romance, The Rise of Dawn offers the beginning of an expansive fantasy adventure.

I’m curious to see where the Echoes of Almeira trilogy goes next!
