A Joyfully Jay review.
5 stars
I’ve been a wrestling fan for 35 years. Actual wrestling, not WWE. I’ve watched boyfriends, my husband, and my children wrestle at varied levels of competition over those years. I understand the wrestling mindset, and the sacrifice, and the struggle. This story (which has some technical inaccuracies) was incredible in its portrayal of wrestlers in the hunt for glory. It will be a standard, for me, in terms of sports books (with or without romance) going forward.
This book was a revelation in the sports-romance genre for me, and I’ve read hundreds of them over the years. It’s got a rhythm to it, a cadence that is fostered by plain language and careful repetition.
It is not sweet or sentimental. It is a brick to the chest with explosive honesty and brutal metaphor. There is a happy ending. There is love and support and camaraderie and joy. The book is told in first person with a flashback vibe, breaking the fourth wall continuously, and that really did something for me.

4.5 stars. Danny, a poor scholarship student, finds himself in the same weight class for wrestling as Grayson, who comes from old money and has been pushed and trained his whole life. There is only one spot available so both are under enormous pressure. While training together their attraction to each other grows just as fast, causing even more complications. I really liked how the author managed to have them reach a satisfying HEA without having either give up. The coach was a real highlight. I've never read anything about wresting, so that was interesting. I'm looking forward to the next book.

This was a beautiful story with such a heart warming ending.
Danny and Grayson had very different upbringings but were able to meet, and compete with one another, due to the sport they loved. They’re both in the same weight class but Danny’s fighting for his scholarship while Graysons families wealth spans generations.
Their growth was inspiring and the love of their families, and friends they make along the way, was truly amazing. I’m so excited for Miles story and hope we have another with these two in the future!

This is a wrestling MM romance. Danny Kovac and Grayson are wrestling for the same weight spot. One needs it for his scholarship the other for his family legacy. However things quickly become steamy. All I’m gonna say is Chapter 27.

Takedown is the first book in the new Ashworth Stags series by Rex Hunter. This is a rivals to lovers, opposites attract read about Danny and Grayson. This is the first book I have read by this author but I will definitely be looking for more, really enjoyed the storyline and the characters.
