Yay! It's finally here! I'm so thrilled to be a part of this talented group of kick-ass authors!
Dark & Damaged is a collection of brand new stories from some of the most well-known paranormal romance authors in the genre. Each story focuses on a hero, damaged and dark and broody, who finds someone to make himself want to love again.
My contribution to the collection is a stand-alone, spoiler-free short novel in the Gardella Vampire Hunters series. You can read this story whether you've read the original five Victoria Gardella books or not.
If you're familiar with the Gardella series, you'll recognize some of the names and references--but never fear; you won't feel as if you've been dropped into a world you don't understand if you haven't read a Gardella yet.
This book is about Max Denton, the father of Macey Gardella Denton, the heroine of the Roaring Trilogy (Roaring Midnight is out now, Roaring Shadows is coming Summer 2015).
Here's a little more info:
After the vampires Max Denton hunts brutally murder his wife, he is nearly destroyed himself and spends the next ten years living a life of violence and revenge. But when sensitive information about his young daughter Macey falls into the hands of the vampires, Max is forced to team up with the woman whose father ultimately caused the death of his wife.
Savina Eleaisa has secrets of her own, and she’s determined to do whatever it takes to clear her father’s name: even if it involves seducing the most dangerous of vampires--with or without the help of the arrogant, brooding Max Denton.
A short, stand-alone novel in the Gardella Vampire Hunters series set at a Downton Abbey type English estate
Story # 3: REBEL'S DESIRE by Laurie London. Rate: 1 star Review: This is not the first book in this series I've read. I previously purchased the anthology Dark And Dangerous in it was Laurie London - Assassin's Touch (Iron Portal #1). In my review of said story I mentioned I wasn't overly interested in the Iron Portal series. This book solidafies my lack of interest. I had a difficult time finishing the short. In all honesty I skimed a ton of pages & am going to list it as a DNF. I just can't truthfuly say I read a mojority of this story. ========================================= July 30th
It's unlikely i'll read this cover to cover but I will read at least two stories.
Story #1: TEMPTED BY FIRE by Erin Kellison Rate: 5 stars Review: I wish it was longer & hope this series meets my very high expectations. I'm going to look into some of her other books.
Story #2: HER SINFUL ANGEL by Felicity Heaton Rate: 3.5 stars Review: The devil was just as tempting as the christian religion makes him out to be. However he's not as naughty. He came across a bit emotionally wounded & temperamental. Still great sex scenes & world development considering this was a short story. It has great potential & I think it would have made a fine full length novel.
------------------------------------------- This counts towards my Girls, Guns and Grimoires Book Bingo challenge category: ANTHOLOGY OR THREE SHORT STORIES.
Fabulous, Amazing, & Outstanding Box Set. Well worth purchasing! We get such a verity of supernatural creatures and worlds in this Paranormal Romance Set.
This is a quick read. The relationship moves fast, but when a shifter finds his/her mate, that is how it goes. All the characters are great and entertaining. I like the human shifter hook ups the best in this series. I also enjoyed returning to the Austin shifters and seeing what is happening in their world.
I loved Lion Eyes and if you enjoy reading about shifters, then you should pick up Jennifer Ashley. I highly recommend her Shifters Unbound series. It’s one, especially the novellas, that I read over and over again.
~ 2.5 Blood Flame Stars ~
Blood Flame is book one in the Flame series by Caris Roane.
This one started out good, but the more I read the more some things just did not work for me. It is an interesting concept and world that these characters live in. There are five alter species, which are genetic mutations of some drug that runs free/un-checked, so the people are not changed by there choosing. We never find out how this drug got started and all these creatures vampires, witches, shifters, wizards, and fae got put into this world. There is a little world building and what we do learn is not nice. This world is dark and corruption runs deep in all five areas of the zones the supernaturals now live in. Many of the species do not play nice together. As for the storyline things move fast with the plot and the relationship between Connor, Vampire and Iris, Witch. These two have a strong attraction/pull to each other and they never full understand why they do. As relationships go this was fast-paced and not less then 48hrs into being together to solve who wants them dead, they are in love and a marriage proposal happens (a little farfetched for me). Also we get a lot of pinning over dead spouses and a life lost when they where changed into supernatural creatures.
Overall, Blood Flame was an ok read. It was not fully for me, but if you find the blurb intriguing you should give it a try.
~ 5 Tempted By Fire Stars ~
Tempted By Fire is book one in the Dragons of Bloodfire series by Erin Kellison. OMG, I love dragons and this novel had me hooked from begging to end.
I loved everything about this story. The writing is amazing, the world building is fantastic and the world is interesting. We get lots of surprises and unique characters. I had a good time with the mystery that brings Emerson and Thane together.
Emerson’s life has not been easy. She does not believe in dragons nor does she believe she is one herself, but she will be sucked into a wold that terrifies her and is deadly. As the death count rises secrets that have been long kept will finally be revealed. She is everything I enjoy in a heroine with her strong, fierce, and fiery personality. Thane is a Dragon and knows his time is limited, but he has one last thing he must accomplish before he gives into the dragon song. You feel his struggle, his loneliness, and determination to find justice. He is a true alpha.
Lots of action, a mystery, and romance. The attraction between Emerson and Thane builds up along the way as they both try to discover the truth. I liked how the author used Emerson’s naiveté. It brought depth to the story and her character. I also had a good time getting to know the secondary characters. Note: Their is a lot of violence in this dragon world more then I expected, but it did not detour me.
Tempted By Fire was an outstanding start to this new series. Dragon lover’s will enjoy! We get fantastic world building, lots of surprises, a mystery, and amazing characters. I can’t wait for the next book.
~ 4 Her Sinful Angel Stars ~
Her Sinful Angel is book eight in the Her Angel series by Felicity Heaton. I enjoyed going to Hell, learning about Lucifer, and seeing him as a romance hero. Her Sinful Angel is full of action, betrayal, & romance.
Lucifer is the king of Hell and a powerful warrior angel. We get the lowdown on Lucifer and by the end of this story, you feel for him. Nina, is a human; being used in Heaven’s games, but she does not know this. She has a sliver of dark insider her, which helped her to connect with Lucifer.
Both Lucifer and Nina have been betrayed, both have barriers around themselves, and they both try to keeping their emotions at bay. What each went through shaped them to be what they are now. They balanced each other out with the full on darkness/a little light in Lucifer to Nina’s full on light/with a sliver of darkness.
The plot was straight to the point. I was also surprised by something in the plot (not going to spoil it), but I did enjoy the surprise. I read this book in one shot. It was a quick and sexy read, something I needed and enjoyed.
It can be read as a standalone, but a few of the previous characters do show up. This is my second experience with Felicity Heaton’s Her Angel series and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Lucifer and Nina. I plan on reading the others in this series, getting more familiar with the world, and cast of characters.
If you have not picked up Her Angel series, I recommend giving it a try.
~ 3.5 Stars ~
The Resurrection of Sam Sloan is a short novella #2.5 in the Beyond series by Erin Quinn. The author packed a fair amount of story into this little novella.
I was immersed. It’s a little dark, creepy, and fun. I have not read many books on Reapers, so it was a different change. Very much enjoyed!
Sam is not a bad guy, just a man trying to protect his family at all cost. The Reaper comes into play when Sam is dyeing and something unusual happens. He ends up getting himself stuck in Sam’s body. I liked the slow acclimation of the Reaper into Sam’s body. Maggie, she has lost so much in her life and held it all together as best she could. It was hard reading about her struggles, but in the end she found happiness.
The Resurrection of Sam Sloan is a unique story with an interesting concept and a little mystery.
~ 4 Rebel’s Desire Stars ~
Rebel’s Desire is book four in the Iron Portal series by Laurie London. We are given a compelling world, plot, and characters.
I was pulled back into this fabulous and intriguing world. The concept is great with two worlds divided by hidden portals, one modern and one medieval. The Cascadians (medieval) have something the Pacificans (modern) want - Talents people with special abilities. These two separate worlds are waring with each other. The author does a deceit job explaining all of this, but I think the series is best read in order to get the full scope of what is going on.
Toryn, is part of the Cascadian Iron Guild and has some major trust issues after his love betrayed him. Falling for him is bound to have a few bumps along the way. Keely, is a Talent who grew up in the Pacificans world. She does not know the extent of her powers, but because of them her and her sister where cast out of their home as teenagers. She’s got daddy issues and her sister is missing.
These two end up working together and as they spend more time together they both learn to open up and heal. The romance is sweet and quick with some very hot and steamy moments. The author also features some familiar faces and that is always enjoyable.
Rebel’s Desire was a good read and I am looking forward to more installments in the Iron Portal series.
~ 4 Redemption Stars ~
Redemption is book four in the Werewolves of Montana Mating Mini by Bonnie Vanak. This little book packs a fair amount of story into it.
I’ve tried Ms. Vanak Werewolves of Montana series and those did not impress or leave an imprint on me to read more, but the Werewolves of Montana Mating Mini series, at least this book Redemption, really drew me in. It was an intriguing tail that placed two determined people on a collision course with destiny and each other.
There where several areas that I got very emotionally involved and felt for both our leads Robert and Aurora. Robert runs hot and cold on his emotions, I get it, but it was very hard to read; especially how he acts towards Aurora at times. As for Aurora, the portrayal of her loneliness was magnificent and I felt deeply for her. We also get a few surprises, twist, and turns that add to the story.
The only thing I did not like are the wizards in this series. They seam cruel and petty.
Redemption was an emotional and captivating read. It can be read as a stand-alone.
Raging Dawn - DNF This is a stand-alone short novel in the Gardella Vampire Hunter series. I tired, but could not get into this one. I'm not a fan of historical romances. The characters are vampire slayers and dark. Maybe I'll try it again someday, but just to many other reading options. Even thought Raging Dawn was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.
My first thought for you is this: the anthology is so cheap, you really need to buy it :) There will surely be at least one novel/novella you'll like.
I've reviewed the stories I loved more on their own "pages", I didn't want the negative reviews of those I didn't to impact on all authors.
The stories I liked most: -Tempted by Fire by Kellison (I'm only sorry it was too short, it really deserved a bit more breathing space.) -The Resurrection of Sam Sloane by Quinn -Lion's Eyes by Ashley (yes it has love at first sight, but the story is still very good).
The stories I found lacking, I didn't enjoy that much or disliked (in that order): -Rebel's Desire by London (good story, MCs not so interesting a the end) -Redemption by Vanak (there was something missing, I couldn't take it seriously and the reason she was enslaved was a pure WTF moment.) -Blood Flame by Roane, a great idea destroyed by the writing style. Shudders. -Her sinful angel: I can't even say I read it as I skim-read it. It does take some "talent" to make the devil a whiny, emo hero that bores you to death.
review to come, but...I still have a couple stories to go, but even after reading half of the stories I felt like I had gotten my buck's worth.
Just a few words about the stories in the order I read them...
As long as Ashley continues to write Shifters Unbound stories, I'll keep reading them. Lion Eyes wasn't my favorite of the series' shorts but I still enjoyed it - my issue with the story is that the timeframe was to short to fully convince me that the shifter groupie leading lady was falling for the hero in specific.
Erin Kellision's Dragon Shifter series starter was an unexpected treat, there's a great intensity to the dragon leading man and the world building has me excited for the series.
Erin Quinn's contribution is connected to her Beyond Series - I'm a fan- and I am a sucker for Reaper romances, this story managed to fit the space very nicely and I was very satisfied, this was my favorite of the bunch.
Colleen Gleason's Gardella the newest generation prequel was also well done, though I was confused because the time period is subtle and one of the main characters is Max so I was thinking it was a prequel to the original books, but nope he's a decendant so it's a prequel to the great granddaughter's spin off series.
The London one was okay - it was from her Iron Portal series, I am not at all a fan of her Sweetbloods, this world was more interesting - downside is that it is book 4 so there's a whole bunch of other couples who obviously were past leads.
The Vanak one had potential, but the heroine backed off too easily from a situation that merited major groveling and it also had two scenes with sexual claiming in front of witnesses, which I didn't care for
Out of the rest of the stories... I plan on giving Heaton a shot - I am not particularly fond of Roane's vampires but we'll see...
3.5 Stars. Nice read, more about the uncollared shifters rooted out of their compound hiding place. Wish I could have read this before Broderick's book, though. Next full length book up is 'White Tiger', Kendrick's story. I really wanted to know what the deal with the ghost of Remy was all about. I honestly thought all that ratting of papers he was dong was going to lead to a life insurance policy or something of that nature.
The Resurrection of Sam Sloan - Quinn
4.5 solid stars. I really enjoyed this one quite a bit. This is how a ss should be written, and packed a powerful punch. I haven't read much PNR about reapers, so this was already a refreshing change of pace. The creepy factor added an extra chill to the story. I felt sorry that the real Sam wasn't such a bad guy after all, just a loving husband and father trying to protect his family at all costs.
I will definitely be looking at more of Quinn's work. Recommended read.
Tempted by Fire - Kellison
3 Stars. It was nice enough, but I wasn't overly enamored by it. I found Ember a little annoying. She knew her foster brother was a wolf shifter (had even seen him shift); but for fully half of the story firmly refused to believe in dragon shifters, even with all the signs obvious and in her face. The last half of the story was a much more enjoyable read; at which time the loose ends were tied up really quickly. Then there was the overly cutesy ending. If this is the prequel to a new series, I may give it another shot, although I've never had much luck with Kellison's books.
I may read more ss in this anthology at some point...
This is a great collection of paranormal romances.
LION EYES by Jennifer Ashley: Bree is a shifters groupie who finds herself with a lion shifter in her truck. He is running from someone and demands that she drive. Seamus is being chased by the authorities who believe he has committed a murder. I really liked the romance between Bree and Seamus. He has an interesting story being part of the renegade uncollared shifters. I also really enjoyed the appearances by Shifter favorites. I thought that Seamus was sweet. This is Book 6.6 of the Shifters Unbound series. Rating: 4.25.
BLOOD FLAME by Caris Roane: Vampire Officer James Conner of the Crescent Border Patrol is a widower. Iris Meldeere is a witch who is a Tribunal Public Safety Officer. In a world where vampires kill witches and witches return the favor, James and Iris at best work reluctantly with one another and more likely have to fight the instinct to kill one another. Thrust into a situation where there are unnatural interactions between vampires and witches and someone seems willing to kill both, Iris and James find that they may have more in common than wanting to kill one another. This story was an interesting introduction to this world but not knowing about this world before, it felt too complicated and took a little away from the romance of the story trying to figure out the rules of the world. This is part of the Flame Series. Rating: 3.5 stars.
TEMPTED BY FIRE by Erin Kellison: Dragon Shifter Thane Ryce Ealdian is determined to avenge the death of his wife and son. When their bodies are discovered, a dispute between Thane and another family over possession of the remains leads to the intervention of Emerson Clark who is a mediator. Orphaned as a child, Emerson knows that she is a bloodkin dragon but doubts whether or not it is true. The story is sexy and intense and I found it an enjoyable read. This is part of the Dragons of Bloodfire series. Rating: 4 stars.
HER SINFUL ANGEL by Felicity Heaton: Lucifer, the king of Hell, is a fallen angel. One day a mortal woman, Nina, is left unconscious in his courtyard. Lucifer is not as evil as might be portrayed but rather has made some bad decisions in his life. Nina has been brought to him for a purpose and he intends to discover what that is. This book has great characters and I was sucked right into the story. Lucifer is a compelling character with an interesting back story. Immediately after finishing this story, I bought the rest of the series. There are mentions of other characters who have stories written about them. Their appearance made me interested in reading their stories, but I didn't feel that I needed to know that background in order to appreciate this story. This is book 8 in the Her Angel Series. Rating: 4.5 stars.
THE RESURRECTION OF SAM SLOAN by Erin Quinn: Maggie Sloan was left by her husband when he abandoned her and his two children. A year later she is called to his hospital bedside when he is dying from a gunshot wound. Just at the moment of death, Reaper becomes trapped in Sam Sloan's body when he wants to touch Maggie. When Maggie brings her husband home, she realizes that he is different from the man she knew. The family is threatened by something dark and sinister. This was an interesting story of resurrection and rebirth and also a suspenseful mystery. I liked the story but felt some distance from Reaper even as the story progressed. I did think the romance between these two worked. This is book 2.5 in the Beyond Series. Rating: 3.5 stars.
REBEL'S DESIRE by Laurie London: Toryn Flynn is an Iron Guild Warrior and Keely Weber runs a bookstore with her sister. Keely and her sister were kicked out by their father when it was discovered that they were Talents. When Keely's sister is kidnapped in order to be sold into the sex trade. Toryn agrees to help Keely find her sister. This was an intriguing story that made me want to read more of the series. I thought the characters were well defined and interesting. This is book 4 of the Iron Portal series. Rating: 4 stars.
REDEMPTION by Bonnie Vanak: Robert Keynes is an Alpha wolf cursed after his Mage lover destroyed the land to which his pack is connected. He desperately needs to break the curse and believes that Aurora Seville, herself a Mage, is the one to do it. I found this story compelling. Both characters have secrets that are slowly revealed in the story. This story is book 4 of the Montana Mating Mini which is connected to the Werewolves of Montana series. Rating: 4.25 stars.
RAGING DAWN by Colleen Gleason: Max Dawson is a vampire hunter whose wife was killed by vampires. Savina Eleaisa has a plan to help kill the vampire that destroyed Max's family -- she intends to seduce the vampire. Very intriguing story with rich characters. Definitely wanted more. A Gardella Vampire Hunters novella. Rating: 4.25 stars.
Overall Boxset rating 4 sexy stars. Each story was action packed and full of my favorite kind of hero dark and damaged!
LION EYES (3 stars)
Sexy shifters! I love shifter stories but this one was just okay for me. It was a little hard for me to connect with the characters since the story was pretty short. I enjoy more of a build up to romance rather than instant love that was presented here. But the story had a great fast pace, action and a bit of mystery making it intriguing and fun to read.
BLOOD FLAME (4 stars)
An action-packed thrill ride that kept me spellbound till the very end. I loved this new and intriguing world that the author introduced. There was so much that hasn't been explored yet and I can't wait to discover more and dive deeper into this supernatural world. The characters were good. I loved how they had some depth and experienced growth throughout the story. Their journey was easy to root for and enjoyable to read. The story was fast paced and full of tension. It was easy to get lost in and read in one sitting. (Which I did).
TEMPTED BY FIRE (4.5 rating)
Bloody spectacular! Full of non-stop action, mystery, suspense, and romance, this book has it all. It's fast pace and high risk made it easy to keep flipping the pages until late in the night. The characters were intriguing and fun to read. Each had their own unique personality and I was left wanting more. I loved the world the was built and can't wait to discover more. I'll definitely be picking up the next book in this new series.
Her Sinful Angel (4 stars)
A deliciously beautiful story. I love demons and fallen angels. I always believe them to be highly misunderstood just as the case was in this story with Lucifer. His story was dark and he was a tormented soul who needed the right kind of woman to heal him. Enter Nina. Nina has her own kind of tormented past but she's strong and caring and able to see Lucifer for who he really is. The plot was fast pace, full of tension, action, betrayal and passion. There was never a dull moment.
THE RESURRECTION OF SAM SLOAN (3.5/4 stars)
I love a good reaper read and this one was no different. Although it was short it was still enjoyable. I wished it could've been longer as the characters and story was interesting.
REBEL'S DESIRE (3.5 stars)
This is the first book I've read in the series and I wasn't overly impressed. I think maybe if I read the other books I would've gotten a better view of the story world. I would like to know more about the different talents and what happened rather than just a quick review that the book offered. That being said I still enjoyed the story although it was predictable. My curious is peeked enough to want to read the previous books though.
REDEMPTION (3/3.5 stars)
An intriguing tale that places two determined people on a collision course with destiny and one another. I really enjoyed the plot and how the story played out. The characters were okay for me. In truth I was more curious about the wizards and the dragons then the main characters since this was the first book by the author I read I didn't get the full world that was created with previous books. I did enjoy the read and am curious as to what happens in the next book. I would recommend this to any werewolf fans looking for a hot and sexy read.
RAGING DAWN (4 stars)
Fangtastic! A sexy fun vampire slaying thrill ride. The characters were dark, independent and fun to read. Their tension and barter was full of excitement. All in all a great story full of sass, danger and passion.
Overall Boxset rating 4 sexy stars. Each story was action packed and full of my favorite kind of hero dark and damaged!

I'm going to review each book individually. I bought this boxed set for $0.99 so I wasn't necessarily expecting anything fabulous. There were some good surprises and some books that didn't work for me but may work for some people.
Lion Eyes by Jennifer Ashley: 4 stars. I enjoy Jennifer Ashley's Shifter series and this one is no exception.
Blood Flame by Caris Roane: 2 stars. Infodump, stalker guy, and too much time stuck in the characters' heads and not enough time actually interacting and having some sort of action.
Tempted by Fire by Erin Kellison: 4 stars. This story was surprisingly good for only 13 chapters. The info was woven more naturally throughout the story and Thane and Ember's relationship made enough sense that I could suspend my disbelief about a few things.
Her Sinful Angel by Felicity Heaton: 2 stars. Sorry, but I just can't believe that Lucifer falls in love at first sight with a random woman. I can't believe that a fallen angel that has encountered countless women, angels, etc. just can't stay away from this one woman who doesn't say or do anything interesting or surprising. Plus, the first line is pretty much a throwaway: "It had started out like any other day in his kingdom." Go back to Creative Writing Class.
The Resurrection of Sam Sloan: 4 stars. I was a bit skeptical of the premise but the story kept me intrigued and by the end, I realized that I had really enjoyed it and it all made sense.
Rebel's Desire by Laurie London: 4 stars. Pretty good story about a warrior and a woman with psychic talents (a Talent) who are from different worlds and come to care for, and even love, each other. I don't like that the last conflict between them stems from a huge lack of communication (he won't give her a chance to explain something) as that isn't one of my favorite romance elements, but the rest of the story does make up for that.
Redemption by Bonnie Vanak: I would give this story 2 stars and thats being generous. There is a GIANT plothole (the land is cursed...so freaking move away to new land!) The heroine has been a slave for 10 years but doesn't act like she's a slave or has been tortured (we're told she was), the hero supposedly cares about her but doesn't find out she was made to sleep in the barn or other things like that, its just a mess. And the end was pretty damn stupid. I'm disappointed because the premise sounded good and interesting, but the execution sucked.
Raging Dawn by Colleen Gleason 2 stars. Yawn-same old tortured brooding hero who is trying to avenge his dead wife. Same old spunky heroine who is trying to right a wrong (clear her father's name) and figure out why the hero is still so tortured and brooding. And the hero has a kid whom he hasn't seen or asked about in 10 years. I'm not a fan of that.
I'm so excited to let you know that DARK AND DAMAGED: Eight Tortured Heroes of Paranormal Romance is now available!!! These are all-new, never-before-published stories, and we all had so much fun writing them.

My contribution to the set is REBEL'S DESIRE, Iron Portal #4. But Laurie, Iron Portal #3 isn't out yet. Yes, I know!!!! Gah! It's coming back from the final proofreader any moment now, and I'll have it up asap.
Here's the description of REBEL'S DESIRE:
Tormented by a savage past and shattered by a bitter betrayal, Iron Guild warrior Toryn Flynn trusts no one and cares about nothing except the battle against their enemies. His target: a mobster who finances missions into Cascadia.
Kicked out of the house by her puritanical father, Keely Weber and her sister run a bookstore and fortune-telling business in an underground district in New Seattle—until a powerful man who controls the area kidnaps Keely’s sister to sell her into the Talent sex-trade.
When a beautiful woman literally falls into his arms, Toryn realizes she holds the key to his success. Keely will do anything to rescue her sister…including taking risks with a dangerously sexy man who pushes all her buttons.
From the gritty streets of the city’s underbelly to a sexual-fantasy-themed island, passions ignite. But with evil surrounding them and time running out, Toryn must decide whether to sacrifice the woman he’s falling for or dare to trust his heart again.
This box set is full to the brim with amazing stories from truly outstanding authors and if like me you adore paranormal romance then this is definitely a winner. My review is for just one of the books within but I happily recommend all of them. Erin Kellison brings her own unique and dark twist giving an unexpected read. I've long enjoyed reading her Reveler series with it's deep undertones so was very interested to find out what she would bring that's fresh to the dragon type books that seem so popular right now. Emerson has had a rough life but has found her place in the crazy world she lives in. Her best friend is a wolf shifter but Emerson has always been told she's part dragon and now is considered to be blood kin with all the dubious perks that go with that position. Emerson is skeptical about the existence of dragons but plays along with the fantasists but if truth be told she's so tired of it all and wants nothing more than to slip quietly away. After this one last job that's just what she intends to do. The job? Act as a mediator between the Heolstor family and one very ticked off Thane Ealdian! They all claim the ancient bones discovered belong to them but only one is telling the truth. Emerson is getting sucked into a world that's terrifying and deadly and as the death count rises secrets long kept quiet are finally revealed putting Emerson firmly in the cross hairs! There's an attraction between the two main characters tha just keeps building . Not exactly instant love admittedly but nevertheless palpable. Thane knows his time on earth is limited and his intense loneliness and descent is offset by his desire for justice. Emerson's naïveté allowed the author to bring depth to the story as her own preset ideas are truly tested.
Great Collection! Lion Eyes - Jennifer Ashley 3.5 star. It was good, but it needed to be longer for me to love it. The romance was good... but I still felt cheated there and it ended so abruptly. I like seeing a little of my couple together after they make their commitment:/ However I always buy this series... I have high expectations for it, though I always like the full novels best:) Blood Flame - Caris Roane 4 Stars. Great story and romance:) TEMPTED BY FIRE by Erin Kellison 5 Star - I am lovin' me some dragon right now;) FELICITY HEATON - Her Sinful Angel (Her Angel Series Book 8) 4 Star. Great stand alone with an interesting take on the devil ERIN QUINN - The Resurrection of Sam Sloan (A Novella of the Beyond 2.5) 3 star... I think I saw this movie:/ LAURIE LONDON - Rebel's Desire (Iron Portal #4) 3 Stars. Interesting, but short... it can stand alone. BONNIE VANAK - Redemption (Werewolves of Montana Mating Mini #4) 4.5 stars... great read! COLLEEN GLEASON - Raging Dawn
Lion Eyes by Jennifer Ashley. 4/5 stars Really loved this world of shifters. I have yet to read the series this short stories is from but I am very interested in reading it now.
Blood Flame By Caris Roane 3/5 stars
Tempted by Fire by Erin Kellison 4/5 stars A very interesting world. I love stories involving dragon shifters and this one was very interesting. I would like to read the rest of this series to get a better since of the world Kellison has created.
His Sinful Angel by Felicity 4/5 stars Very interesting perspective of hell and the devil.
The Resurrection of Sam Sloan by Erin Quinn 2/5 I struggled to get through this short story. It did not keep my attention and took a lot longer than it should have to finish.
Rebel's Desire by Laurie London 4/5 stars I have read this series since the first one was introduced in the Dark and Dangerous Anthology. I was not disappointed in this one and cant wait to read the next book of the series.
4 Stars!!!! The Resurrection of Sam Sloan by Erin Quinn Novella in anthology : Dark and Damaged Another engrossing and compelling story. . Just like in Five Deaths of Roxanne Love a reaper takes over a body when he was supposed to reap their soul. This time it was more accidental. Reaper had a yearning to touch Maggie, the wife of the soon-to-be deceased. He entered the body of Sam Sloan just as the doctors used electric pads to revive his heart. Accidentally freezing the Reaper in the body. This is a double edged blessing because now he can freely touch Maggie but Maggie remembering how her husband was before the hospital doesnt want to be emotionally hurt again. As he lives his life and learns everything about Maggie and his children he realizes that he wants this life. For a novella this is so beautifully weaved with intricate demon subplot. I didnt want it to end!
3 Stars for Lion Eyes By Jennifer Ashley A continuation of the series Shifters Unbound about a never collared lion shifter and a Louisiana born a little crazy human female.
Eight book set for less than a buck! There are a lot of new to me authors in this compilation that I can't wait to read.
My review so far, because I'm not a speed reader, is for Colleen Gleason's Raging Dawn, a Gardella Vampire Hunters Novella. I look forward to getting my hands on anything Gardella related!! This is a stand-alone story set in the Gardella world, technically a prequel to the Macey years which begins with the novel Roaring Shadows.
Raging Dawn is a fleshed out novella, every engaging chapter ends on a little cliff hanger. Gleason write extraordinary characters, especially her empowered women, and Savina is no exception. Max is the epitome of tortured hero. This book has fights, romance, humor, everything I expected from this author.
Can't wait to check out the rest of the books in this box set. Off to a great start so far.
This review is strictly for Lion Eyes. This little gem happened in a very short two days before the ILY's started flying, but for some reason here I was ok with it. It didn't feel rushed between Seamus and Bree and I still felt that I had got my full emotional money's worth. We get to see quite a few of our favorite characters: Dylan, Liam, Sean, Spike(my fictional BF, so hands off ladies!!) and others. Happy to find out that after Bad Wolf (Broderick's story) we get Kendrick's story...yea!! According to JA, she still has quite a few stories to tell and I am ok with that. Shifters Unbound, #148...yes I could handle that!:-)
Love Jennifer Ashley's Shifters Unbound series, the only reason I got this box set was for Lion Eyes...I will eventually read the additional stories as I have not read anything by these other authors but that is what I like about Anthologies and box set, an inexpensive way to introduce to additional authors.
Short but full. Kind of carries on from Bear Attraction with the shifters that were found. I'd almost suggest reading this one before reading Mate Bond (I saw it listed as book 7.2). It's about Seamus (Lion) & Bree. Plenty of others from the Morrisey's shifter town.
Only read the Jennifer Ashley book, but might check out a few of the others.
Overall, this is a nice collection of 8 paranormal romances featuring shifters, vampire hunters, vampires, and even a reaper. I really got my money's worth (hey, 8 books for 99¢!). Heck, even one of these books for 99¢ would be worth it!
4 stars: So, I know in the past book in this series The Three Fates of Ryan Love I was almost mad at the book. There were parts that I really liked though, and the world Ms. Quinn built is one of those things. Luckily I had a couple of short stories I'd bought in a box set that were set in this world. One, I'd already read, and one was this one. (this was in the Dark and Damaged: Eight Tortured Heroes of Paranormal Romance).
This story showed me that before, despite the plot holes, perhaps it was the characters I didn't like.
Review:
I liked this story, and since I've already read a couple of books in the Beyond series, I knew the world going in (it stands on its own though). I like this world Ms. Quinn has built, and I like the idea of the Reapers.
Sam was shot in the head at point blank range. He died, and Reaper came to ferry his soul, however, Sam's wife is there, and Reaper feels for the first time in his existence. He feels. He slips into Sam's body, right at the moment where they would become one, right when he would normally take the soul. But two things happen. The soul isn't...normal, it's tainted somehow. And the doctors shock the body. This fuses the souls and traps Reaper in Sam's body.
Maggie knows the man who was revived is not her husband. And after he's released home, she sees that this man who looks like her husband and talks like her husband is not the same man. Since her husband left her a year ago, after only having been married a month, she's wary of this new and improved Sam.
Since Sam hadn't been the best husband, and they hadn't known each other more than a couple of months before he left, it was easier for the author to sell me on Maggie falling in love with a new man. But also, her husband. I thought there was no way that the author could pull it off, at least no way that would satisfy me, but I was wrong. It was believable, and it worked.
This is by far the best story in this series. I still find the same problem I have with this author, where I feel like the endings are too quick, and too neat. But for a novella, and the type of relationship she chose to write, I am very impressed.
I reviewed LION EYES by Jennifer Ashley and HER SINFUL ANGEL by Felicity Heaton
LION EYES (Shifters Unbound) by Jennifer Ashley:
NOTE: Lion Eyes debuted in the boxed set DARK AND DAMAGED (June 12, 2015) and was released on its’ own July 7, 2015.
REVIEW: LION EYES is the latest novella in Jennifer Ashley’s adult SHIFTERS UNBOUND paranormal romance series. This is lion shifter Seamus McGuire, and shifter groupie Bree Fayette’s storyline. All of Jennifer’s Shifter Unbound storylines can be read as stand alones but for cohesion and backstory, I highly recommend reading the series in order as many characters and premises cross over between novels. Jennifer always gives the reader a hint as to what is to come including an introduction to new characters and potential new storylines.
BACKGROUND: Jennifer Ashley’s shifters are persecuted and discriminated against by the humans but the humans have help in their attempts to bring the shifters under control using magic-infused collars and segregated towns. The Shifter history reveals that the Fae created the Shifters but in doing so left a little bit of magic behind.
Told from dual third person perspectives LION EYES follows the hunt for a killer. When two humans are found ripped apart, a feral shifter is suspected of the killing. Enter Seamus McGuire, an uncollared and rogue lion shifter who doesn’t recall the events leading up to the murder; but a bloodied and wounded Seamus soon takes refuge with Shifter groupie Bree Fayette and the mating frenzy begins to take hold. With Seamus the number one suspect, the trackers from the Austin Shiftertown go on the hunt for the shifter they believe is responsible for the attack.
The relationship and mating between Bree and Seamus is quick to develop but, in defense, the Shifter male knows when he has met his mate and, in this, Seamus tries to hold himself back knowing that to mate with Bree would put her in danger as Seamus is potentially a wanted man. The $ex scenes are limited, intimate and seductive.
Many of the previous storyline characters play secondary and supporting roles throughout the novella for a familiar and cohesive blend between storyline installments-the inclusion allows for another glimpse into the lives of the couples, the children and the shifters we have come to love.
The world building continues to focus on the Shiftertowns, the persecution of shifters, and their history: from collaring, Fae magic, and The Guardians who keep peace within the species.
Jennifer Ashley writes a fascinating, entertaining and engaging paranormal series with a blend of several different shifter species who, in order to get along, must exist side by side and together, along with the humans who are determined to keep them under control.

HER SINFUL ANGEL (Her Angel 8) by Felicity Heaton
3.75 stars--HER SINFUL ANGEL is the eighth installment in Felicity Heaton’s Her Angel paranormal romance series. This is the King of Hell –Lucifer- and human female Nina’s storyline. Although Her Sinful Angel is the eighth book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Some of the characters from previous storylines have secondary and supporting roles.
Told from third person point of view HER SINFUL ANGEL follows Lucifer as he unknowingly begins to fall for a human female that has been dumped in Hell’s courtyard by one of Heaven’s angels. What ensues is a building relationship between Nina and Lucifer, one both blessed and cursed by Heaven itself. Lucifer is a changed man; a changed demon who no longer destroys what is left of the souls of the angels who have fallen from Heaven, but in this, the character of Lucifer seems to have lost some of his edge. Lucifer is not the Devil of our childhood nightmares but a man who is lonely and unaware of the empty hole in what’s left of his heart.
Nina remembers very little about the circumstances surrounding her abduction and arrival in Hell-in fact-she has no idea where she is or why anyone would want to kidnap her. Within hours of her arrival Nina finds herself falling for the man whose powers are unlike anything she has ever seen before. The entire storyline covers but 24 to 48 hours.
The relationship between Nina and Lucifer is quick to develop although Nina is initially unaware of Lucifer’s true identity and the power that he controls. When one of Heaven’s angels demands Nina’s return to the human realm, Lucifer becomes both guardian and protector of the woman with whom he is falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive. There is a reason Heaven has placed Nina in Lucifer’s arms.
Several of the previous storyline characters make a cameo appearance including Erin and Veiron,; Asmodeus and Liora; as Lucifer continues to battle Heaven’s angels. Heaven wants something from Lucifer but the Devil refuses to hand over what belongs to him.
Felicity Heaton continues to focus on the Fallen-the Angels who have been thrown out of Heaven and whose life will be saved by the woman who calls to his heart. Each of her storyline heroes is dark, damaged and oft times broken; the females are perfectly matched in beauty and mind. HER SINFUL ANGEL reveals that even the Devil has a little light remaining his soul and all it takes is love to break through and allow that light to shine.
Because the majority of the storyline is a written narrative, there is very little communication between our leading couple as per Felicity’s style of writing. Most of the background, history and storyline are revealed through memories, thoughts and observations.
I enjoyed all of the authors in this boxed set. None of them were known to me.
******************** Book 1 Loin Eyes Jennifer Ashley 3.5 - 4 stars
In this world Shifters are collared! Collars are supposed to be able to control the shifter. But he is uncollared!!
She is shifter groupie.... (this is me with my head tilted, frowning ... seriously! a groupie??!!)
He is protecting more 2 uncollared shifters and it is interesting how everything gets resolved. Lots of interesting characters and potential stories should this ever become a series.
****************** Book 2 Blood Flame Caris Roane 4.5 stars
In this alternate universe there is an area where 'alters' live... This situation is caused by contaminated drug called Blood Flame... which is not always administered with consent. You can be turned to vampire or a witch... and these two factions are at war with each other. But this story is about what happens when a vampire becomes obsessed with a particular witch... and when they are placed into a perilous situation, it becomes clear that they have to start trusting each other.... I am really interested in how this can progress from here.
******************** Book 3 Tempted by Fire Erin Kellison 5 stars

Looking for more by this author....
*************************** Book 4 Her Sinful Angel Felicity Heaton 2.5 - 3 stars
This is a story about Lucifer and what he does when human girl is left in his front courtyard.. He is in the first gate of Hell! We are supposed to believe that this innocent girl would chose to stay in hell rather than leaving with a angel... how she got to hell in the first place is never covered...
************************ Book 5 The Resurrection of Sam Slone Erin Quinn 4 stars
She is sitting in the hospital waiting for her 'piece of shit' missing husband to die from a bullet to the head. He has been missing for over a year!! A reaper waits in the room ... it is nearly time to take the soul. But he gets distracted by the wife and does something unusual.. He enters the body instead of taking the soul.. and the doctors zap the body..
He is stuck But the longer he is involved with this family ... he more he wants to stay.. the way this story is resolved is confronting and yet it left me yearning for more... I liked the dynamic and the characters..
************************ Book 6 Rebel's Desire Laurie London 3 stars
In this universe there are portals all over the globe that link to other worlds. He is a warrior from another world... She is a 'Talent' from this world but her talent can hide others... She risks everything to help him and he turns his back on her... He is an idiot..
I felt that the story was filled with more holes than substance. I liked this idea... I might look at other stories by this author.
************************** Book 7 Redemption Bonnie Vanak 4.5 stars
She is a slave who is a mage... and her slave collar neutralizes her powers... She is traded to a wolf pack... and realises that she met the alpha before he had taken over the pack and he had treated her with kindness. His pack is under a Silver Wizard.. they are custodians of the Silver Dragon.. She is a slave for a Shadow Wizard... who has told her to bring the Silver Dragons heart to him.. He has said he will remove her collar when he mates with her... But the alpha has tied his life to the dragon.. but the reader is left wondering what the wizards in this world really want..
I want to know how the story progresses from here! I will be looking for more by this reader!
************************* Book 8 Raging Dawn Colleen Gleason 2 stars
He is a vampire hunter (part of a vampire hunter community) ... but his wife was killed in a raid by vampires to his home. He is forced to work with someone he considers the enemy. Somehow they work together because it turns out she believes someone else is responsible for the theft and she convinces him... Suddenly, they can not keep their hands off each other... for no particular reason.. He hid his daughter after his wife's death and now she is in danger... What really annoyed me was that nothing is resolved in this regard at the end of the book... and there is a strange immortal woman who seems to know more about everything than she is letting on... no explanation is given. He is an heir to the vampire hunter legacy but he is not taking the position because he is killing vampires... A bit boring
Lion Eyes is 1st story in the edition, continues Dylan and Kendrick's clans. The H is one of Kendrick's, afraid he's going feral after running from a murder. The practical h and her mother are kind and save save him. When Dylan tries to rescue him, he has to take them all. Great to see Tiger's magic and Dylan's power and compassion. Nice addition to the family and the series.
🇧🇷alright, the resurrection of Sam Sloan by Erin Quinn ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved it. Hehe . HONESTLY. The lion eyes by Jennifer Ashley. ⭐⭐⭐... And blood flame by Caries Roane , ⭐⭐ i really couldn't understand how a vampire and a witch could be so weak. I mean ... :- / . I jumped all the rest... Haha... No spoilers...
Each and every one of these eight authors gave us a great story. Each had a different type of people involved. Paranormal and such good and bad. I would highly recommended this box set. You will not be disappointed. Great reads.
