The Girl on the Train By Paula Hawkins | Summary and Analysis - BookMarked **FREE download with Kindle Unlimited!**
" ...Hawkins' writing is excellent, and also cinematic, in the best possible way. Her novel doesn't read like a screenplay that's been wrestled kicking and screaming into prose form. But the story, down to the title, is indisputably memorable. She also decides to take interesting alternating points of view which is a tricky prospect; it can easily come off as unnecessary or gimmicky. But Hawkins uses the technique masterfully, giving just enough away each chapter..."

One of the best books I have read in a while. Totally gripping right from the start, all the way to the end. Absolutely loved the different POVs / time frames chapters, Hawkins did such a good job making it seamless, did not feel choppy at all. Characters are also so well written.

The Girl on the Train is a dark, gripping, and emotionally intense story Speaking of my favourite character, the girl on train, Rachel, she is flawed yet incredibly relatable. Life has been unfair to her at every step—whether it’s her failed marriage, her struggles with alcoholism, or the way people constantly mistreat and underestimate her. She tries to be kind and do the right thing, yet everything she does backfires. No one truly values her—not Tom, not Scott, not even Annaa. However,. Despite the intriguing build-up, I felt that the twists in the book were not very intense and full of suspense. At some point in the book, I knew exactly what was going to happen further. Still it was interesting to keep reading it and it kept me hooked. One of the powerful moments in the book for me was when Rachel said:
I don’t know. I don’t know where that strength went. I don’t remember losing it. I think over time it got chipped away, bit by bit, by life, by the living of it.
This line perfectly captures the tragedy of her life—the way life wears a person down without them even realizing it.
If you love thrillers , The Girl on the Train is definitely worth a read, but only wished for it to be a bit more thrilling.
This book by Paula Hawkins is a mysterious psychological thriller. The story revolves around Rachel, an alcoholic with an unusual obsession for train journeys. Haunted by past traumas, she turned to alcohol and never managed to stop. Her drinking eventually drove her husband away, and she has been unable to move on from him.
Lost in her own world, Rachel begins observing a couple during her daily train rides, inventing stories about their lives in her mind. The plot takes a dark turn when the woman Rachel often watches is murdered. The revelation of the real killer is both shocking and unexpected.
It’s a gripping read that will keep you hooked until the very last chapter — a must-read for sure.
I enjoyed the book. The character development was excellent as was the writing. I also liked the way Paula Hawkins divided the experiences of the 3 different women into chapters that explained the experiences of each from their points of view. I almost felt like I was living the lives of the 3 women. I liked the plot twist. I wish I could say I anticipated it. I thought I had at one point, but it was so close to the revelation that I think I saw it about the same time as Anna and Rachel did... and questioned my knowledge along with the them, although I think I would have made a decision more quickly than they did. But I think that's because I hadn't gotten drawn into the charm covering the insidious nature of the man involved. All in all, I found the book fascinating.
Such an ausum thriller.. When the story keeps moving to Rachel then Meghan and then Anna it keeps getting interesting... The wait to know the killer was exciting and thrilling at the same time.. some where felt like am solving the case that interesting it was..
Highly recommended..👍 tried watching the movie but for me book was better.
I liked this book because it was hard to tell if Rachel was an unreliable narrator, or if she felt trustworthy. Towards the end I had my suspicions about what would happen. Definitely a good read. 84/100
I loved this book. It draws you in by the voyeur in us all. It keeps you there by the suspense. I don't like to say too much about books in reviews, but I did love this one.
