Orcs of the Iron Wilds #3

Ravaged by the Orc Raider

Rate this book
She spent thirty-two years learning to disappear. Then a raider tore the wall down and refused to let her.

Mab has always been good at taking up less space. Scullery maid, stone wall, the woman no one thanks and no one sees. The kitchens of Lord Cresswick's holding taught her to keep her head down and her wants smaller than her hunger. She stopped expecting more a long time ago.

Then the raid bell rings for the first time in her life, and the world she survived goes up in blood and firelight.

She hides. He finds her anyway.

Varek Redhand is seven feet of scarred green muscle and amber-eyed certainty, an orc war-leader who looks at every soft curve she was taught to apologize for like it's the reason he crossed the mountains. He claims her in the dark and carries her north, two orphans in tow, into a granite fortress warmed by hot springs and a heat she doesn't have words for.

He calls her abundance beautiful. He means it.

But he claimed her in the shadows. The mountain is still waiting to hear him say it in the light.

"That was the part that made her breath go shallow. Not just the touching. The being seen. The being known, in her body, by someone who wanted to know it. Someone who looked at the softness and the width and the heaviness of her and didn't calculate what could be trimmed away but instead calculated how to get closer to all of it."

Not gonna lie, the titles of these books don't do them any favors - Ravaged by the Orc Raider makes it sound like a superficial novella that is just porn with a little plot. If you're into spicy romance books, you've probably encountered those.

But these books are so much deeper and thoughtful than that (though they definitely still have the smut component), and almost verge on poetry at times. All the men are thoughtful and understanding and loving. All the women have healing to do and are given the space and time they need to do it. These books are like a healing balm for anyone who has been made to believe they must take up less space to exist in our world - which honestly is MOST women. And especially plus-size women.

I've read every book in this series so far, and even though the first one remains my favorite, all three of them are 5-star books to me (I am notoriously hard to please). This one has some beautiful moments, and as always, is more romantic than 99% of the romance novels I've read.

Looking forward to the next book in the series and what this author cooks up next (heh, "cooks", get it? Because Mab is a cook? Eh, read the book, you'll understand).

5 Fabulous🌟s for Ravaged by the Orc Raider!!!🌟🔥💖

I'm steadily my working my way through all of Etta Wild's books and I love them all but this one struck a cord. Whether your carrying extra weight, have a scar or you don't feel you fit with beauty standards everyone has moments just like Mabel . She's been told all her life she's too much and no one would want a female that looks like her and takes up too much room. She's done everything she can to make herself small almost invisible until the day a band of Orcs come storming through her kitchen. Varek, is the Captain of the raiding party sent to find the human Lord who has raided orc lands and villages. When he takes the house he never dreams of finding a true mate . Varek takes one look and wiff of Mabel and knows he'll never want another. Together they navigate uncharted territory. He's going to spend the rest of his life undoing all the harm others around d Mab have caused. He's going to show her how worthy is of all the love he can give her and that he thinks she's beautiful inside as well as outside. Its my favorite this far in the series and I've loved the others as well. The characters and so well written , storyline is believable and the characters have terrific chemistry! 100% highly recommend💖🔥🌟💖💖🔥🌟🔥🌟💖💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟🔥🌟🔥🌟🔥🌶🌶

Ravaged by the Orc Raider

I really like the way this author addresses the body issues each of these MFC's have. There's a certain amount of detail and understanding about being a curvy woman and the broken self esteem that can come from being treated badly that this author describes really well. It helps deconstruct all the programming that comes from growing up in a world that says only skinny little girls are pretty.

Each one of the women in this series has developed into a powerful, sexy woman. I loved the turn the story took when the MFC decided to claim her Orc warrior as her own.

"So I'm not going to wait for you to say it…. I'm saying it. You're mine, Varek. My krenna. I'm keeping you. I don't care who hears.”

And his response is so sweet,

“....his mouth broke into the rare unguarded smile that made him look ten years younger. "You claimed me," he said, low, just for her, marveling. "In front of my whole garrison. Like a clanswoman.””

I also really liked Drogga, the MMC's brother. He is great comic relief and he understands that the most important thing in the world is children. His relationship with the two kids in the story is lovely.

Moving, well written, and spicy!

This was such a surprise because it’s SO moving! I’ve never read this author before but now I’m hooked! This story about a forgotten scullery maid and two unloved kitchen children being set upon by orcs had every right to be a quick, silly, spicy read- but it’s so much more than that.

It’s got spice of the A+ variety, so if all you want is orc sm*t you won’t be disappointed. What was surprising was how rich the characters are, the depth of feeling involved, and the strong take on the very real sadness that coexists with poverty, neglect, and body shaming.

The orcs in this story give the forgotten trio of kitchen workers a family, love, and care they’ve never known. It’s so touching and it’s beautifully written. And the spice is top tier. Can’t wait to read more by this author!

Shockingly good

I admit I judged this book by its cover and thought it was going to be maybe halfway decent if I was lucky. Within the first few pages I knew I was in for a treat. What a beautiful, poignant, well-written story. I only wish it was longer…like two times longer lol. I would read three more books of just V and Mab. If you like the writing of Grace Draven and Zoey Carven (Craven? unsure of the spelling there), you’ll enjoy this.

I should also note, this was truly very low angst which I so love and appreciate. The author also didn’t use any of the much-hated miscommunication tropes, and so she has been added to my one-click buy list (for many reasons, not just this). Looking forward to more in this series!

This was EVERYTHING. It is hands down my favorite orc romance I've ever read. Not only because the story immediately had me in a chokehold, but the writing was fucking TO DIE FOR. Multiple times I just stopped and was like, god DAMN the author killed that passage/concept/arc etc. I could not help myself but to admire how well certain things were written. Standing ovation especially for the depth and development of Mab's trauma and healing.
I'm absolutely feral to add this to my hardcopy collection. Now excuse me while I absolutely inhale everything Etta has ever written.

Loved it

This is a gentle book, no big bad evil guy. Just a woman learning to be seen, to be loved for herself, after years of being taught to be ashamed of herself. The beginning is not gentle, a warrior attacking the lord's holdings for killing the old and the young, the helpless. But from there, the focus is on Mab, the kids she protected, the rough orc she learns how to love, the community she finds a home in. It's an amazing, heartwarming story that deserves to be read.

I read it on Kindle Unlimited but am going to buy it so I can savor it again.

Ravaged by a Raider

Wow! An absolutely wonderful story of a (very) large woman being willingly taken by an Orc raider who falls for her immediately. I love how she was embarrassed by her weight and full figure, and learned, finally, how to love herself as he loved her! This was a sweet and sexy book all woman of all sizes need to read. Thank you Etta Wild for reminding us we need to love ourselves, and for writing such a sweet, sweet story.

Thoughts:
Repetitive sentence structure. Remove every third sentence from the book and it would read much better. The plot points were interesting but it did start to drag some.

Great dirty talk
Age appropriate 32 and 39
Excellent side characters
Low angst

Safety:

Experienced H but didn’t come across as MH
No cheating between MCs
No OWD
I would consider it a safe read

Oh my!

Another fabulous tale of romance and the kind of love that endures through all of life's trials. Such interesting and detailed characters too! You don't want the story to end because you don't want to lose the people in them. It's like they become your friends and family. My hat's off to you, Etta Wild!

Good read

Mab is a kitchen dishwasher when the orcs attack. She takes the two teens with her and hides in a hidden space. Varek however can smell them finds them. Tibbs,13 and Annie 12 as well as Mab are claimed protected by Varek. Oh but the story gets better! Enjoy

This story is short but honestly the everything from the characters to the spice to the plot delivers!
Yes this is a monster romance but also had me swooning for our MMC and the way he worships the FMCs body? I was barking at my enclosure okay?
This author beautifully writes about a FMC who has a body worthy or love and devotion despite what others have determined and polluted her mind with and she honestly has written some of the best spice (and accurately written!) of a plus size fmc.
I have loved reading this series and really recommend it!

Cute, cozy, respectful, no conflict, a bit boring honestly. But cute.

Felt a bit rushed and the romance wasn't developed much. They met and next day started having sex.
