4.5 stars rounded up because I wanted to and loved this
Ursa Dax does sweet and steamy alien romance so well in this world that she’s created. This new offering is in the same universe as her Elora Station series (which I also loved but doesn’t need to be read to enjoy this, though the couples from that series get a brief mention in this book). Somehow this gem had my hand pressing to my heart in sympathy for our main characters, but then immediately moving up to fan my face because of sexy thoughts they had to then gripping my kindle when a bit of danger presented itself. It was such a fun range of intensities while also never making you feel too sad or too frustrated. It did make me smile a lot and say awww a few times out loud.
Silar (H) is a cowboy alien on a penal colony planet that farms and raises cattle. He’s been there since he was a kid, though his sad background is slow to be shared, but you get enough early on to understand that the poor guy had a bad shake and is actually super sweet, loyal, and good. Silar and the other convicts are given the chance to have brides and there’s a surprising amount of concern and angst over it. I liked the intro to almost all of the guys in this scene and how it hints at some of the strengths and struggles that may happen in the rest of the series. The motion passes though and the men settle in to wait for their humans to arrive.
Cherry (h) is in deep trouble and has made poor choices following the death of her mother. She owes money to a crime boss and when his minion comes to collect, the situation escalates even more. Thankfully, she happens to see an ad for mail order brides and hops on the chance. Unfortunately, she comes with nothing to her name but the clothes on her back and a family frying pan, but she does have the right frame of mind with hopefulness and a drive to make her situation work, mostly to keep herself safe, but also because she's just a resilient and sweet person.
Written in first person, dual POV (with one chapter from a side character’s POV also). No ow/om drama, h was sort of experienced with a couple past lovers, and H has zero experience.
Silar and Cherry have cultural differences and misunderstandings to work through but they were just what the other needed and deserved. Their first meeting is funny and awkward and I appreciated that we got to see inside both of their heads for how each perceived what happens. It does set them up on the back foot a bit though as each isn’t sure the other truly wants the marriage. Silar is the strong, silent type and Cherry is the exact opposite so their communication styles do mean they’re often not on the same page initially too. It’s also hilarious, and a bit heartbreaking, that Silar is immediately attracted to Cherry and thinks of all the debauched things he could be doing to her, while also horrified because he has zero knowledge of what’s “normal”. Cherry meanwhile wants to feel like a part of this new life she's been given so ends up pushing to be included and to do things, without knowing that sometimes Silar is trying to protect or care for her.
Do you like aliens not knowing what kissing is? How about tails that are super active? Learning each other’s anatomy moments (there’s some fun stuff in here btw, even just cute ones like Silar's ears)? Or a guy whose actions clearly broadcast how down bad he is for his new wife, though said new wife is flabbergasted at why he keeps having to walk away from her? A bit of education from a manual on humans that causes more humor than knowledge? They were so precious together and the intimate moments, physical and emotional, took just the right amount of time to build up to imo. They start falling in love with each other because of who the other one is and it was adorable. There are still plenty of explicit steamy times too.
Side characters are pretty minimal, but important. All but one of the alien guys is in the start of the book, but Cherry only sees a couple once she arrives (my two favorites so far besides Silar). We don’t get much of an intro to the other women, but there’s a bit of detail. Their daily lives on this planet are similar to old Western times with lots of space from neighbors, ranching, outhouses, limited supplies, and the danger of predators.
I liked the climax and how it presented a bit of an uncertain situation, which was also quickly resolved in such a good way that makes me want a certain other alien’s story even more. Plus, it had just the right setup for them to bond over their pasts I think. The ending is HFN/HEA with them settling into their married life. No big future look ahead, but you know they’re going to make it the distance and be in love doing it. I also downloaded the bonus scene for signing up to the author’s newsletter and was very happy with more of Silar’s protective adoration for his wife and Cherry’s hint of mischief and love right back for him. I do recommend this and hopefully it brings some smiles to some other friends’ faces like it did mine.

Married to the Alien Cowboy by Ursa Dax was highly rated by GR friends and sounded like a wildly good time, and I’m happy to report it delivered on both fronts: quality and fun!
This is the kickoff off a new series, but if you’re familiar with some of Ursa Dax’s previous works, you might recognize some cameo characters. I was so happy to see Sophie and X.
This book has the pleasure of being creative and fresh in a surprising way: by mishmashing familiar tropes you don’t usually see together. It had that westerny mail-order-bride vibe built right into the plot, and our FMC Cherry is the lucky bride to be. Lucky for her at least, since it’ll provide her a way to escape some space loan sharks she had to consort with in order to make rent. What better place to escape to than a secluded alien farming planet?
MMC Silar is a resident of that alien farming planet, and not by choice. His past murderer conviction (there’s more to this than meets the eye at first) has made him a criminal in the eyes of his species, and therefore his sentence is essentially banishment, along with a handful of other criminals. To keep the make prisoners from growing revolutionary, a plan is made to appease them with wives… human wives.
Silar and Cherry are matched up, and their dynamic and romance is very grumpy x sunshine, with Silar being more taciturn and stoic and Cheery filling in the many silences with manic cheerfulness. There’s a simmering physical attraction growing between them both, but with secrets to uncover on both sides, it’s going to take patience, understanding, and communication to get to their HEA.
Their romance is a great balance of sweet and spicy, something Ursa Dax does well in her sci-fi roms. Don’t go into this expecting massive sci-fi world building; there is some nuance to the world and setting, but the core focus is on the characters and the romance. It features familiar tropes from sci-fi alien romances, like “what is kissing?” and learning each other’s alien biology and differences.
Overall, this was a fun story that combined tropes from genres you don’t usually see together, in this case a western and an alien romance. Nothing too serious, just roll with it!
I’m really looking forward to the next book of the series, which I think will be Fallon and Darcy’s story. With Fallon being a ball of sunshine and Darcy being the reserved one, I think we have some golden retriever MMC x black cat FMC in store🤭🙌

I flew through this! It was fluffy, funny, feelzy, and saved me from early-stage slumpification.😅 I enjoyed Silent Silar and Chatty Cherry together, and the rural homestead mail-order bride dynamic gave a nice slow burn with plenty of awkwardly entertaining mix-ups. Our damaged, stoic, virginal, affection-starved hero won me over pretty easily, and that backstory? Oof.🥺

While Cherry's internal monologues were a little...chatty, she was funny, determined, and warm. I loved it when she discovered the special soulfood of gardening, and her survival antics gave me a new appreciation for a good cast iron pot. 😈💪🏼 I liked her scrappy adaptability and how she quickly saw and valued Silar’s quiet goodness.

I will. I would do it. I was his wife now and wives were supposed to poke and prod, help and heal, and if Silar didn’t like it then too fucking bad because he’d married a human woman, and we were one hell of a stubborn breed.
The way these two show up for each other is just plain heartwarming.💕 If you're in the mood for cozy alien homesteader sci-fi with a dash of smut, Ursa's got you covered. 👌 I’m looking forward to the rest of the series, especially Warden Tenn’s book. I hope we get one for that extra-grumpy Zohro dude who voted against the bride program hehehe.

He doesn’t know about humans. Or women. She doesn’t know about aliens. So they have a miscommunication about whether they like eachother or not but all he wants is not to mess up and keep her. He’s so shy and so nervous and so dedicated. What a freaking ANGEL.
I was hormonal reading this and teared up so many times! So cute so cute my heart is bursting.
This is absolutely the greatest book if you want to swoon, giggle, and tear up. You will get lost in the pure joy and love of it all. My FAVORITE series of all time.
Update: my entire book club read as their first alien romance book and they LOVED IT too 🥹

FINALLY SOME GOOD FUCKING FOOD!…….
this was such a fun scifi-inflected romance read! a genuine case of "this author clearly loves the subgenre they're writing in" because the worldbuilding held up + was charmingly kitschy throughout, and the concept of "convicted of violent crimes as children and forced into lifelong exile for hard labor" is such a tragically high stakes backstory for the male leads that i'm forced to love and cherish and support them all in their journeys to find love.
also that main couple introduction scene where the fmc accidentally creeps on her new cowboy husband while he's naked and showering the dust off.......A+ trope subversion 😍😍😍😍

good fucking shit

2.5 ⭐️ i mean - a time was had lol. this is not to say i didn’t enjoy parts of this - i actually found silar and cherry amusing and endearing at times, and i had some laughs and giggles here and there - but the things that didn’t work for me REALLY didn’t work for me, i’m so sawri 🙈. i know these books are very dear to some.
i’ll start with what i liked:
- chatty cherry and silent silar were a pair indeed 😂 somehow they fit - a good ‘ol grumpy x sunshine. the mcs were cute together and some parts of their story were very adorable - i see why people say these are comfort reads for them because i did get some of those cozy fantasy vibes
- the misunderstandings between them from not being familiar with each other’s species’ habits, sayings and anatomy were lowkey funny at times, so that brought the humour factor up (some was cringy but some was kinda funny 😭)
- love me a marriage of convenience sitch, so the premise itself was going innnnn.
- the world-building with all its specifics was pretty solid and the alien planet is quite charming
- silar did some really cute things for cherry 😭😭
here’s what i didn’t like though, and i REALLY didn’t take to these aspects:
- i struggled to warm up to the writing style and i can’t say i got all the way on it by the end. i found it a bit too simple and therefore made the book read dry and hollow at times, almost caricature-like in others (cherry’s brand of sunshine personality is one of those in a BIG way - too cartoonish). i don’t think i had too high expectations for a literary masterpiece or anything like that here, but i was expecting to be delighted by the writing the way i was in something like morning glory milking farm 😝, but it was a lot more basic than that which made things feel shallow and a bit juvenile. there were also tons of repeated words, which started to grate on me after a time - “cock” being one of them 🥴. there was also lots of telling instead of showing. so the quality of the style disappointed me and that’s too pervasive of a thing for me to disregard
- it was insta lust and instalove on crack lol. pretty much one day and one night into knowing each other and these two were on something crazy 😂. i can look past both of these things when i’m in the right mood / for the right book, but it’s not my typical preference, and it was absolutely frying me HARD in this one
this last point really made me wish that this was written as a single pov romance - sometimes that makes these kinds of spicy lil human x non-human love stories hit so much better for me because i get giddy watching the non-human get charmed by the human, and seeing how down bad they become by reading about their words and actions towards the human lead, rather than being told how they feel through my access to their thoughts. especially when those thoughts become very horny right away. silar’s pov is what made this feel over the top on the lechery and he gave me the ick too many times for me to truly and fully recover from it. cherry could goon all she wanted, i didn’t mind that 😂 but a single fmc pov really would have taken this book up a notch for me. i actually found myself most endeared by silar when i was experiencing him through cherry’s pov with all the cute things he’d do for her or his confusion about her human-ness when he didn’t understand certain things. so just having cherry’s view would have made this sooooo much better for me.
i also cringed a few too many times (the boobs = udders moment and the dicktacle reveal stand out from several others. i mean - i laughed, but also 🙈). the smut was actually bad all-round 😭😭
overall, the romance had its cute moments, but this didn’t hit the way i thought it would.
will i be continuing with the series? yes, actually! i’m also willing to (partially) chalk up my less than enthusiastic response to this to the fact that i’m feeling a little slumpy coming off of what was a god-tier series for me right before this, as well as a couple 5-star reads a little bit before that, so i do want to try more of these cowboy colony books down the line - just not right away. i’ll be sprinkling them inbetween other reads later on though and seeing how things go 😌. maybe going into a follow-up knowing what the style of writing is like will adjust my expectations accordingly, and i could have a much better time with the next installment! i also have a sneaking suspicion i’ll eat fallon up coz he seems so cute and goofy from the little bit i got of him in this book.

- chatty cherry and silent silar were a pair indeed 😂 somehow they fit - a good ‘ol grumpy x sunshine. the mcs were cute together and some parts of their story were very adorable - i see why people say these are comfort reads for them because i did get some of those cozy fantasy vibes
- the misunderstandings between them from not being familiar with each other’s species’ habits, sayings and anatomy were lowkey funny at times, so that brought the humour factor up (some was cringy but some was kinda funny 😭)
- love me a marriage of convenience sitch, so the premise itself was going innnnn.
- the world-building with all its specifics was pretty solid and the alien planet is quite charming
- silar did some really cute things for cherry 😭😭
here’s what i didn’t like though, and i REALLY didn’t take to these aspects:
- i struggled to warm up to the writing style and i can’t say i got all the way on it by the end. i found it a bit too simple and therefore made the book read dry and hollow at times, almost caricature-like in others (cherry’s brand of sunshine personality is one of those in a BIG way - too cartoonish). i don’t think i had too high expectations for a literary masterpiece or anything like that here, but i was expecting to be delighted by the writing the way i was in something like morning glory milking farm 😝, but it was a lot more basic than that which made things feel shallow and a bit juvenile. there were also tons of repeated words, which started to grate on me after a time - “cock” being one of them 🥴. there was also lots of telling instead of showing. so the quality of the style disappointed me and that’s too pervasive of a thing for me to disregard
- it was insta lust and instalove on crack lol. pretty much one day and one night into knowing each other and these two were on something crazy 😂. i can look past both of these things when i’m in the right mood / for the right book, but it’s not my typical preference, and it was absolutely frying me HARD in this one
this last point really made me wish that this was written as a single pov romance - sometimes that makes these kinds of spicy lil human x non-human love stories hit so much better for me because i get giddy watching the non-human get charmed by the human, and seeing how down bad they become by reading about their words and actions towards the human lead, rather than being told how they feel through my access to their thoughts. especially when those thoughts become very horny right away. silar’s pov is what made this feel over the top on the lechery and he gave me the ick too many times for me to truly and fully recover from it. cherry could goon all she wanted, i didn’t mind that 😂 but a single fmc pov really would have taken this book up a notch for me. i actually found myself most endeared by silar when i was experiencing him through cherry’s pov with all the cute things he’d do for her or his confusion about her human-ness when he didn’t understand certain things. so just having cherry’s view would have made this sooooo much better for me.
i also cringed a few too many times (the boobs = udders moment and the dicktacle reveal stand out from several others. i mean - i laughed, but also 🙈). the smut was actually bad all-round 😭😭
overall, the romance had its cute moments, but this didn’t hit the way i thought it would.
will i be continuing with the series? yes, actually! i’m also willing to (partially) chalk up my less than enthusiastic response to this to the fact that i’m feeling a little slumpy coming off of what was a god-tier series for me right before this, as well as a couple 5-star reads a little bit before that, so i do want to try more of these cowboy colony books down the line - just not right away. i’ll be sprinkling them inbetween other reads later on though and seeing how things go 😌. maybe going into a follow-up knowing what the style of writing is like will adjust my expectations accordingly, and i could have a much better time with the next installment! i also have a sneaking suspicion i’ll eat fallon up coz he seems so cute and goofy from the little bit i got of him in this book.

This story completely swept me away. It had everything I love: a tender but lonely hero, a heroine who sees his worth from the very beginning, and a slow build of trust that had me smiling, swooning, and even giggling along the way.

When the warden of his small town proposes a trial “mail-order bride” program for the few aliens who live there, Silar reluctantly agrees to participate.
🍒 Cherry,🍒 the heroine, is desperate to escape her own dangerous situation. On the run from men she owes money to, she sees the ad for the alien bride program as her way out and takes the leap. Their first meeting is awkward, both convinced the other doesn’t actually want this arrangement. With only thirty days to decide whether to stay married or walk away, the tension between them simmers beautifully.
What made this book for me was honestly Silar himself. My heart absolutely broke for him. This quiet, lonely man has never known love, never been cared for, and never believed he was truly wanted. He’s reserved, almost unsure of how to handle Cherry’s warmth and chatter. He desperately wants to impress her so she’ll stay, but he has no idea how to express himself. On top of that, he’s a total virgin, which makes his innocence and vulnerability even more touching. Watching him try so hard, while secretly believing he wasn’t enough, had me literally aching for him.
And Cherry…oh, I loved her nurturing side. From the very start, she sees right through his walls. She recognizes that no one has ever cared for him, and she immediately begins showing him the small acts of love and attention he’s been missing his whole life. (like she’s so perfect I just can’t 😭🥹) That dynamic was so sweet and fulfilling to read.
Of course, there were plenty of lighter moments too. I definitely laughed out loud at Silar’s innocence when it came to intimacy. His reaction to Cherry touching him or kissing him was both adorable and hilarious. He didn’t even understand why he was drawn to her body, and he constantly tried to hide his attraction because he thought she would see him as some kind of pervert. The combination of his awkwardness and his raw honesty made those moments both funny and incredibly endearing. (Like I reread so many scenes because it was just so stinking sweet)
And let me just say LOL… the heat in this book was delicious. Silar might have been innocent at first, but once he let himself go, HOLY CRAP he brought intensity and passion in ways I wasn’t expecting. I’m telling you it’s ALWAYS the quiet ones you have to watch out for 🥵 His alien anatomy had some very interesting… additions that made those moments even more unique and unforgettable. Plus, his tail isn’t just for farm work… it absolutely comes into play, and let’s just say, Cherry is very appreciative.
Their eventual connection was everything. The way Silar held himself back out of respect, not wanting to scare her away, showed just how deeply he put Cherry’s needs above his own. And when they finally gave in to their feelings, it was explosive, tender, and so sweet. The payoff was perfect.
Overall, this book gave me all the feels, made me laugh, and kept me hooked from start to finish. Sweet, funny, unexpectedly hot, and completely heart-melting—it’s easily my favorite alien romance yet. 👽🤪🤭

Very sweet and tender alien romance, one that did offer a good story, lovely characters and of course, a whole new universe that came with its own challenges
The MMCs was a total sweetheart, he was considerate, observant and quite attentive to his new bride. I appreciated the fact that he learned as he went along despite his own insecurities. The main heroine did find herself at a tough spot, hence her eagerness to be shipped off to become a bride. Luckily for her, her new husband was wonderful and it did not take long for her to start appreciating this wonderful man as well as his unique traits. The couple does face some misunderstandings as they come from completely different worlds, not to mention that they belong to different species, but I really liked the step by step approach here as they got to know one another and of course, learn more about each others worlds.
This is the first book that I have read in this universe, but I am certainly interested to see how Fallon fares with his new partner as she arrives. This was a well written story, it had a bit of everything that I enjoy, low in angst, new world, different cultures and perceptions and of course, two tender souls who find a home with each other.

I was so giddy during most of this story since my GR friends had already read and loved it, I knew I was in for a good time.

Why not a perfect 5star then?
Well, just a few lil niggles that kept me from it.
Oftentimes I found myself saying “awww” at the cuteness on page but I would be quickly pulled out of the moment when it was immediately followed by a lusty thought when I would’ve rather have sat in the cuteness for a bit before the abrupt change.
I was also hoping to see Silar become more open with his affection and hold or caress Cherry when he felt the urge but it only showed him giving into the desire during the aftermath of high emotions from danger very late into the story. The sex came soon after and then some more danger with a sorta rushed explanation of each of their backgrounds.
Regardless, I LOVED it.

This is my second Ursa Dax book and I just don’t think I’m a huge fan of her writing style so I skimmed a lot of the non-dialogue (which is big chunk of the story). I don’t really know exactly what my problem is but I just could not sit there and read every word. A lot of it seemed unnecessary and I just never felt like the words on the page translated to fully connecting with the character or investing in the story. Hence the lower rating.
On a different note, the dick tail thing was pretty weird and not something I found sexy.

Cherry está escapando de unos matones y su primera opción es proponerse para el programa de novias, ya que eso la llevara lejos, al inicio todo iba bien pero pasan cosas que la obligan a irse sola sin las demás chicas, por lo que es la primera en llegar y se encuentra directamente con su esposo Silar alguien que a primera vista parece un buen chico pero la diferencia es muy clara, será que podrán superarlo?

Estuvo muy bueno además que es re corto, me lo leí en un día, después de libros de fantasía re largos justo era lo que necesitaba, la verdad es una historia en la que no pasa mucho y varios de los problemas se me hacían un poco tontos, ya que solo necesitaban hablarlo pero igual se me hizo lindo, ambos querían que el otro estuviera cómodo pero sin saber muy bien cómo explicarlo, pasan por varias cosas muy de risa por las diferencias que había como cuando Silar descubrió las tetas 🤣 o cuando nos dimos cuenta que este hombre tiene dos colas 😈
Ambos se completamente muy bien, ella es súper parlanchina y él le tienen que sacar las palabras casi casi pero son re lindos juntos 🥹
Fue una lectura muy entretenida, se las recomiendo si quieren algo que se lean rapido y ligerito, ya quiero leer los siguientes

I read through this book sooooo fast! The pacing and balance of conversation of action was perfect. Silar was absolutely adorable with his stoicism and habit of abruptly leaving a room. Cherry was a chatterbox and sunshine incarnate - exactly what he needed to open up. I NEED Fallon’s book!!!!!

Щось мене прям потягнуло до цих космічних ковбоїв і не даремно, бо книга дійсно цікава та не звична. Дуже прикольна та смішна. Особливо головна героїня Черрі зі своєю сковорідкою 😁 А Сілар такий стриманий, серйозний, мовчазний, не дивлячись на те як на початку дуже хвилювався через людську жінку в якості нареченої. Виявився ще тим гарячим, пристрасним та невгамовним ковбоєм 🔥 Мені дуже сподобалася ця парочка, така мила і як вони піклувалися та пізнавали один одного, чого тільки вартий момент коли Сілар рятував груди Черрі 😂
Тут справді немає особливого сюжету, але цей всесвіт який створила авторка такий цікавий. Дуже легко читається книга і прям важко відірватися.

I need more of this series now! I wanted to keep reading but also take it slow so I would never finish it and could stay in this world forever. It's just so cozy and romantic with just enough angst and danger to keep the story going but not be overwhelming. Ursa's alien males are always perfection.
Perfect grumpy x sunshine love story! Silar is so swoony. I loved watching him go from unsure and somewhat innocent to a growly, possessive partner. And that "my wife!" moment?? Perfection. I did want to shake him though and yell at him to stop running away from Cherry so we could get to the spicy bits faster. And boy was it worth the wait!
Loved the little mention and cameo of the characters from the Elora Station books!
Poor Fallon...he had me cracking up. I can't wait to read his story.

This book has everything: a strong, silent type and a cheery, sunshine type; an adventure to the middle of nowhere; an alien having a sexual awakening; and a super fun plot. 10/10 would read again.
