New telecommunications company, ‘fiVe’, wants its name to be on everyone’s lips, and top ad agency Collards is commissioned. The ‘fiVe’ Show is born and Saturday night television would never be the same again, as the one million pound prize makes the show essential viewing for a nation. Customers flock to be involved, and human nature throws up a colourful array of complications. Born and educated in Glasgow, on leaving school I joined the Royal Navy and served as an engineer in the Fleet Air Arm for 21 years. Thereafter, I took a number of jobs in the private sector, before moving to the Middle East, where I worked for 11 years in military training.
