Experience Abundant Life in Jesus every day of the year. You’ll be inspired to live in God’s presence and enjoy the pleasures he so abundantly provides.
Nancy Guthrie teaches the Bible at her home church, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Franklin, Tennessee, as well as at conferences around the country and internationally, including through her Biblical Theology Workshops for Women. She is the author of numerous books and the host of the Help Me Teach the Bible podcast at The Gospel Coalition. She and her husband host Respite Retreats for couples who have faced the death of child and are co-hosts of the GriefShare video series.
The first thing I noticed about this book is how completely gorgeous it is on the outside and the inside. The cover is just beautiful with a textured feel to it and what looks like carvings in the leather-like feel cover. Then you open it and have more beauty on the pages. Sweet drawings on each page and then the gorgeous devotions that will completely bless your heart.
This book is written in the "Jesus Calling" style. The devotions are written from the point of view of the Lord speaking to us. Each devotion reminds us of the love God has for us. Each devotion starts with a Scripture and at the end of the devotion there is a prayer to guide us as we pray to God regarding what we've just read. There is also a Scripture index at the back on all the Scriptures that are used in the devotion.
I love this devotion! It really speaks to my heart and I love how it's written. It clearly helps us to understand the Scriptures we're reading and reminds us how important it is to put God first in our life. I also love how it made me feel so loved by the Lord through His Word. I highly recommend this devoion and give it 5 out of 5 stars.
*This book was provided to me for my honest review by Tyndale Publishers
The whole cover of the book is beautiful. It looks like tooled leather and has a little butterfly on the front and back. There is a paper cover on the bottom part of the book that is meant to be removed after purchase. This devotional has over 365 days of readings taking you through the scriptures helping you to experience God and His intentions for you. I have been reading once daily from this Devotional Day Book and have great inspiration and peace to lead me through the each day. I plan to continue to read this devotion for the rest of this year and next year. I like this book so much that I purchased two more to give as gifts to family member for Christmas.
So I guess it is apparent that I would definitely recommend this book.
I rate this book a 5 out of 5
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from Tyndale Blog Network for review. I was in no way compensated for this review. This is my own opinion.
With, Abundant Life, Day Book, Nancy Guthrie creates scripture based blessings for each day of the year. A prayer, drawn from the content and nature of the blessing, accompanies each entry, offering praise to God for his gifts and favor. I admit to a lack of confidence with this review. Prior to reading Abundant Life, my experience rested exclusively upon fiction. However, I enjoyed reading the book. The structure, with the narrative being framed by scripture and prayer, proved quite effective, and I found the content both informative and inspiring. I would recommend, Abundant Life, Day Book, to Christian adults and teens, especially those who, through a busy schedule of work or school, interact heavily with the secular world. The little book has a way of reminding us that we are all God’s people.
Excellent devotional. A Bible verse and then a response written as though God is speaking to the reader. Very memorable especially since I made notes in my Bible of the main point in the margin next to the highlighted verse. Hoping my children read it one day as a gift from their mother.
The aesthete within me adores this little volume; while I am not partial to the electric green of the cover's butterfly, the texture and design of the exterior make up for this slight. The detailing on the outside is reminiscent of the Victorian wallpaper with all its gaudy embellishments, or like a binding for a William Morris story, though here the detailing is electric green and blind embossed; still the comparison holds. Inside the paper is of fine quality. Each page is marked across the top by a design which hints back at the cover design. The typesetting is simple and fits well with the rest.
The content of the books consists of 365 devotionals, ordered and dated, to be read daily throughout the year. These are formatted in three parts: first, there is a bible verse to which the whole devotional points. This is set apart in italics at the top of the page; second, is the largest section of the devotional which is an explanation or an embellishment on the scripture, but written from the first-person as God--for me, when I first opened the book these portions turned me off, to be fair though Guthrie does offer an explanation for her approach in the introduction and once I had read that I found the devotional more enjoyable--there is no major exegesis going on here, but rather a restatement, a simplification, or an explanation of what the Word says; third, is another section marked off by italics, but here is a dedication, or a prayer, read from the point of view of the reader. A sort of this-is-what-I'll-do-with-what-I've-read section.
Overall I like the book but for my taste is it awful light on the Word, and, for that, too heavy on the hermeneutics. Were the passages of scripture seen in their own context, or if the explanatory passages were geared more toward an understanding of the scripture, or were it not styled a devotional--though, it does, in all fairness, call itself a day book, and not a devotional; can that be a criticism? that it is not what it does not say it is? possibly--then I could read it and enjoy it in good faith. But it is not for me. All that said, it is a very pretty book and it has made a nice gift for my wife who has enjoyed it so far. And any number of your wives may enjoy it as well. Certainly with a butterfly on the cover they are the intended audience.

Tyndale House Publishers has provided this book as a complimentary copy for review purposes. They required only an honest evaluation. They did not threaten my family, nor did they try to entice me with gifts of exotic animals and fine linens. They asked only for my honest opinion. Does anyone else think these new FTC guidelines are rather silly?
Packed into this pretty little book, one will find a single page devotion for each day of the year. After the daily scripture, the devotional is written as if God Himself is doing the talking. Each page ends with suggestions to put what is read into action. The cover of this book is made of a leather-like material that is stamped with an intricate design of hearts, birds, and nature. It is soft to the touch, and pleasing to the eye.
Ready for a cool change?
Any time of the year is great to start spending time reading, and contemplating God's word. However, with the start of the New Year, a resolution could be made to do that now. Getting this book could help make that happen.
There are many things to like about this book, including the way it looks, its size and feel. Also, having a one page format goes a long way toward knocking down the roadblocks that come up when trying to consistently follow a daily devotional.
Just remember this....
There is one thing about this book that I both like, as well as, dislike--and that is the author writing as if God is speaking. I am always concerned when someone attempts to write words they think would come from God, it is a big responsibility. The reader needs to understand these words are written through the filter of the author's viewpoints, and not straight from God's mouth. On the other hand, hearing the scriptures expanded on in the "voice" of God brings a lot of realism and personalization to the reader. The bottom line: always check out anything one reads with God's actual words in the Bible.
With that said, I like this book, a lot. I highly recommend it to anyone, at any time of the year. If you would like something to use, along with the Bible, to draw nearer to God, I recommend you get this 5-star book!

This is one of those books that makes a great gift but, even better yet, it makes a wonderful Get Well/Get Better Card. I enjoy gifting books like this instead of giving flowers or cards that fade away.
I like that this book focuses on what God's word says about his blessings to the believer to bring us to a closer relationship with him instead of focusing on what's in it for us or delving into new age ideas like other so-called Christian gratitude-themed books on the market. I found this devotional to be refreshing because of the truly biblical focus. The daily entries are brief but contain enough "meat" to give me something to think about through the day. Each day offers a scripture, a meditation as if written to us from God, and a personal application by the author that can be rewritten in one's own words, perhaps in a journal, to make it even more meaningful.
I happly won this book from the first reads giveaway. This book is a year worth of devotions. The devotions were quick to read but pack a punch. I was amazed how much these devotions fit in to my life. I truly enjoyed this book. I would most definitely Recommended this book for those who want a devotion and a closer realtionship with God.
Won a copy through First Reads. Since it is a daily devotional I won't finish it until the years end, but so far am really liking it. The daily Scripture passages are always relevant. The cover is beautiful, and I like the attached bookmark. Recommend to anyone looking for a daily devotional that is more new and modern day.
