Wicca is the religion of Witchcraft or Wisecraft. It is based on the spirituality of our ancestors – who worshipped the Goddess, God and the natural universe - in a form meaningful to women and men today. Wicca is a magical path which empowers us to grow, change and heal. It helps us live in harmony with the universe, others and ourselves. This comprehensive introduction contains all the information you need to gain an in-depth knowledge of Wicca, including:
• Witchcraft ancient and modern • Celebrating Nature • Magic and spellcraft • Creating ritual
I read this book because I thought, based on the title, that it was going to do what it said on the cover, give me a beginners guide to witchcraft. Although it was interesting to learn about the Wiccan religion and beliefs, as well as learn the different basic meditations to practice alongside those that I already do, I still didn't feel as though it was a true overview of witchcraft. Mainly it was just a guide to Wicca, and if you didn't know already, Wicca frowns upon just anyone performing witchcraft, and the book points this out constantly throughout until it becomes a little tiresome. Really, if you don't want just anyone to know about it, don't write a book and publish it.
It gets two stars because when I felt I wasn't being talked down to or told it wasn't for me because I'm not in a coven or have been for 20 years, the information and history was quite interesting.
When I bought Witchcraft – A Beginners Guide to Witchcraft I thought it would have been a fantasy YA novella. I was wrong. It is a practical guide on how to study and follow Wicca. Whilst it was all very interesting, it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind when I bought it.
It is a great practical guide for anyone considering following Pagan religion and rituals.
Witchcraft – A Beginners Guide to Witchcraft by Sophie Cornish is available now.
This is a good book to get an overview of the philosophy of Wicca. It gives the back story to how Wicca has developed, and insight into rituals, mainly drawing your circle correctly. A new witch wishing to learn actual practices or spells will be disappointed.
Despite the spelling and grammatical errors which were minor and I d not distract too much from the book, Witchcraft was a wonderful overview of Wicca for any beginner.
Full of very technical, practical information. Lots of charts and diagrams, which are helpful. But I wouldn’t say that this book is very “inviting” it reads as cold and exclusionary, but that does not disregard the actual information presented. Also, this is clearly a self published work and there are many, many typos that at times made it hard to understand what I was even reading (like numbers in the middle of words, etc). A copy editor was severely needed here.
This was a really great intro to Wicca and Witchcraft-a perfect October read. My only major criticism was the amount of editorial errors that I had to swallow...it was also my first “Kindle-read;” which was just ok. I definitely still prefer my paper copies.
Some interesting theories and initiations into the intriguing philosophies of witchcraft. Very easy to read and one to refer back to - only let down by the copious spelling and grammar mistakes throughout
