I would like to say a huge thank you to Seattle author Meg Acuna for giving me the opportunity to read her latest book “The Crown Divided,” which is the second book in her Crown Prophecy series. I got an early access arc which I was so excited about!! Book 2 is such a great ending to this duology series! Cozy, high-stakes, baking romantasy! Plus, Female Rage and Dual Female Main Character POV! ⚔️
Synopsis 🩵: Quinn Rial’s happily-ever-after is cracking like the crust of a freshly-baked loaf of bread. With a Gift she barely understands and a string of kidnappings by the iniquitous king of Falerin, being at the center of the prophecy feels less like a happy ending and more like an impossible puzzle. It’s not until a group of rebels appears at the palace that she finds an unlikely spark of hope-but letting them in would mean dismantling everything Enorias was built on.

For the first time in her life, Liang is the one thing she always swore she wouldn’t be: weak. With her Gift Siphoned during the royal competition, leaving a festering pit of anger in its wake, she’s made a vow to get her magic back at any cost-including working with the insufferable Separatist Galen Vanbriar.

‼️ Major themes/trigger warnings: friendship, romance, royal secrets, language, sexual content (with enthusiastic consent 🔥🥵), and challenging family dynamics— especially abandonment/feelings of not being good enough. Plus, the betrayal one feels from that: Quinn’s relationship with her mom and dad.
“The Crown Divided” starts with the cliff-hanger of book one’s ending. Meg really brought more storytelling and complex character development to this world which I thoroughly enjoyed.
There is a relationship shift, growth, and new challenges for our lovers Quinn and Evander, who are officially married and crowned Queen and King of Enorias. The love, trust, and support they have for each other is strong, but is also tested. Their mantra “I’m safe. You’re safe” is cute. Meg does a great job in showcasing their struggles as rulers and the danger of their kingdom losing its magic. Quinn gains more confidence throughout as Queen. And becomes a bad ass in the adventure to defeat Orobas (evil antagonist from book 1). Side note: What I love is Quinn always has her roots of baking as a stress release and the joy it brings her. It makes her character so relatable and grounded
The new characters and POVs added are refreshing from the darker themes happening throughout. It provides the fun, humor, and light-heartedness. Liang is a strong-willed female character who gives us readers a different perspective of events that happening. Liang has a love interest: the dreamy, Galen. Their love is the forbidden lust relationship to friendship to “WILL YOU TWO GET TOGETHER” love. As a reader, you know they will end up together.
Swoon moment for the new love birds: I will not say which chapter. It’s the heartfelt romance story.
Galen to Liang: “It’s you. The stubborn way you fight for the people around you. The half smile you give when you’re proud of yourself and you think no one’s watching. Your stupid dry humor jokes that take me a second to get. Liang, you’re all I can think about. If something happened to you here and you didn’t come back, I don’t know how I’d ever find my light again. So let. me. help.” After they finally kiss Galen said “Fucking finally.” So cheesy but the truth!
Downfall of the book: the build up of Quinn and the group finding Orobas did drag on way too long. The ending to find the vials and gifts Orobas took was fast paced in the final few chapters.
Overall, “The Crown Divided is such a cozy read! 🩵👑⚔️🥐

What a followup to The Crown Prophecy!
Meg really hit her stride with world building here and created a more complex expansion of themes she set up in the first book. We get to return to Quinn and Evander and see their relationship shift and grow with new challenges (and of course we have some cozy baking, because how could we not??). And Quinn steps into some serious Queen energy!
I'm obsessed with the new POV added here - Liang is such a strong voice and I loved being inside her head as she navigated the ramifications of what happened in book one. She'd such a refreshing tone shift from Quinn, her pissiness is unmatched! Not to mention her love interest Galen is a *dreamboat*... This book is a great ending to the duology! Hope we get some novella/short story expansions....
