Training for Life I served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. But I wasn’t a career officer and didn’t retire from the Marine Corps. I was able to retire, at age 47, because I had income coming in from my businesses and my investments. I did not have income from a career or a job. I’m sure there are quite a few people who have been able to accomplish this, but I was able to do it in large part, due to my military training. I loved military flight school because we were inspired to face our fears every day. I was not in flight school for a steady paycheck or early retirement benefits, although I knew many student pilots who were. Career Marines are employees of the U.S. government. I was in the Marine Corps and flight school for the inspiration, and preparation, for war. Rather than seek security, our instructors forced us to practice “emergency maneuvers” on each and every flight. Rather than hope and pray things would go right, the instructors would intentionally cripple the aircraft in some way, sometimes even killing the engine. They forced us to face our fears, keep our cool—and still fly the aircraft. It was perfect training for a life in business. Many people will struggle financially simply because their emotions run their lives. Rather than face their financial fears, they hide from them. Many employees hide under the blanket of a steady paycheck and job security.
Robert Toru Kiyosaki is an American businessman and author, known for the Rich Dad Poor Dad series of personal finance books. He is the founder of the Rich Dad Company, a private financial education company that provides personal finance and business education to people through books and videos, and Rich Global LLC, which filed for bankruptcy in 2012. Since 2010, Kiyosaki was the subject of a class action suit filed by people who attended his seminars, and the subject of investigative documentaries by the CBC, WTAE-TV and CBS News. In January 2024, Kiyosaki revealed that he was more than $1 billion dollars in debt.
I love books that provide great information and waste no time doing it. The most interesting part of this book is how the author points out the completely opposite definition and means of success between the military and the non military worlds.
- Thinking back, I kinda did not put my heart in my national service. Thus, I did not benefit as much as what I read in this book. Nonetheless, better late than never. - I love how he emphasizes on making mistakes, if we are not achieving the goal we are not failing fast enough. - Not forgetting what is the essence of leadership.
Robert Kiyosaki’s new book 8 Lessons in Leadership draws from his years at the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and his service in the United Sates Marine Corps. With compelling stories and examples and a engaging way of comparing and contrasting two very different cultures and value systems, Robert shares the challenges he faced in transitioning to civilian life&hellipwhere chain of command and team-over-self—once so black and white—were muddy and distorted. "Permission to speak freely, sir?" Count on it. This is Robert Kiyosaki—and he does just that, in the forthright and no-nonsense style that readers have come to expect and appreciate.
That's was an interesting read. Many leadership lessons from military life that can be implemented in the entrepreneurial and social life. One lesson I keep is that when you want something from people and try to bribe them the only you won't be is a leader! You have to relate with them, offer your help and assistance and not asking for theirs. The important thing thing for a leader is caring; caring for your people, caring for their problem, and actively listening to them.
If you read Rich Dad, skip this one. Too much fluff and examples from "his" military missions. Rich Dad is a masterpiece. I feel lost my money and time.
Although I have never served in the military I think those whom do obtain a unique education that serves them for life and I appreciate books that express that as well.
The school system disallows cheating which is the cooperation of student during a test. However army in the other hand allow cooperation during test in order to pass the the examination handed out by the examiner. The book also promotes the educational company instead of the following orders company. We are human being not human brain. School teaches on mental intelligence instead of the other three, physical, spiritual and intelligence.
Does Robert Kiyosaki even know what a communist is? Maybe he should read a book. :) Doesn't surprise me, when I realise he wrote a book with Trump. Erwwww!
I have always been inspired and thrilled by the gallantry of the Armed forces around the world. I have thus developed an inborn connection with the courage, camaraderie, solidarity, self giving, and tremendous sacrifice that servicemen have demonstrated the world over, especially during the Second World War and the Nigerian Civil War. Also the faith and daring of those who have quit seemingly comfortable jobs to pursue their calling and their vision have stirred my spirit to pursue my purpose. So when I saw this book at the bus stop in Lagos that day, I knew it was for people like me. And of course the book did live up to the expectation. The point of the book I believe, is to establish that the vital values and principles infused into an individual in the U.S. military have the potentiality to make a successful entrepreneur, if the individual is willing to delve into the business. The author made it clear that the military provides the basic ingredient for a person who lives with high ideals, a moral code and the national interest at heart; all of which are essential in the business world. He faulted the conventional educational system of go to school, get good grades, get a job, pay bills, save some money, grow old, and die. He showed in diverse ways how service in the military is a noble endeavour. I was particularly touched by the adherence of cadets to "the Honour Code- a cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do". I highly esteem men, such as those in the book, who would not act against their conscience, thus they stand up for their sacred honour and dignity. Though I may not agree with the author in all respects, I do firmly subscribe to many values of the armed forces as stated in the book. Thank you.

Took a while to get through this book, basically because other books came across my desk. It's a good quick read, and you'll want to read more of Kiyosaki's books. Forgot that Donald J. Trump co-authored some books with Kiyosaki, so that's timely.
Definitely recommended to any manager, especially to those just starting a career in leading people. Basic principles explained with a lot of examples and could be used straight away to improve communication skill-set of a manager
Good advice and ideas throughout the book. However, many are expressed with authority and as a unique solution. His ideas are not criticized or observed from different perspectives. Very white or black.
