Elanor is a young woman living in the Hex, apprenticing Vera, a very powerful, and very eccentric, witch. Though she aspires to master the many facets of magic, she finds herself forced to practice basics and run Vera's errands. However, when one seemingly ordinary task places her in the crossfire of a black market warlock and a demon mercenary, the excitement she had hoped for becomes all too real and all too dangerous.

The story is interesting. So far we've been introduced to a world called the Hex. In this world, magic is a technology humans received through an energy source they call, the Ether. We meet a young witch/errand runner, named Elanor; her mentor, a powerful witch named Vera; a huge body guard, named Isaac; a demon named Osrick who's seeking something called, The Matter; and a guy named Booth, who possibly has said Matter.

I love the way the artist depicted this magical world and I love the colors used by the color stylist. So far this team has done a great job bringing this story to life. I immediately looked for other projects from this group for when I'm done with this series. So far I'm loving it.

This is a fast read, because you won't want to put it down! The story sets off immediately and it doesn't take long for things to unfold, but as they're unfolding new mysteries arise. I like that the series doesn't string you along. There's obviously a lot that can't just be revealed all at once -I mean, what a boring story that would be, but they also don't have any chapters that are full of fillers. The diversity in the series is nice to see. From the start we get strong female protagonists and antagonists, as well as diversity in ethnicity and cultural backgrounds. I also liked the parallels that mirror our modern day issues in reality. If you like sci-fi, fantasy, strong females, and diversity then this is something you'll want to read!

Recently learned about this series created and designed by women and given my attempt to learn to like/understand comics, I thought I'd check it out (the first issue is free to download). The art is incredible, and I'm thoroughly intrigued enough so that when I got to the "to be continued" at the end of the issue I was annoyed because I wanted to know what's next. So, I guess that's a sign of it being entertaining!

This series is a great mix of magic and science fiction. Right at the beginning, you are pulled into a world unlike our own. The characters are beautifully drawn, along with setting, and the Hex Comix team did a great job pulling together a story for people to enjoy. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

I remember meeting the authors at PHX comicon and they are amazing!! Not only do they create a wonderful story with beautiful art, but they themselves are just neat, kindhearted people. They had free candy at their booth, along with signed prints from the novel that they offered at a discount if you buy the full volume.
If you like dragon-cats and unique magic users...this book is for you!

Really cute. I'm liking the characters so far. From what I gather, Eleanor is a witch in training who ends up fighting a demon and taking him back to her headquarters to find out more about something that happened to someone...
