The American Midwest- a bucolic ideal that hasn’t quite translated to the zombie apocalypse. Instead of open arms and welcoming faces, there are now open mouths and ravenous Zs. The blue collar drive to work hard is now a red-mouthed hunger for flesh. Jace Stanford, as well as the remnants of the survivors of Whispering Pines, and the rag tag bunch of private military contractors, laborers, and former (everyone hopes) cannibals now must face the vast, exposed space of America’s Heartland in order to get to the possible sanctuary of The Stronghold in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Boulder, Colorado. Just a simple convoy from point A to point B, right? Yeah, right. Not for these folks. Z-Burbia 5: The Bleeding Heartlands is full of blood, guts, pus, and snark as Jace and company are forced to deal with yet another whacko group of crazy survivors, zombie hordes on a scale they have never seen, and the mystery of who keeps skinning folks and leaving the butchered bodies as some type of bloody warning. Yep, just another fun time in Z-Burbia for the Stanfords!

I love all of these Z-Burbia books by Jake Bible. I love the characters. I laugh at Jace through the whole book. I mean he's nuts. His nickname is Long Pork that he obtained a while back from an almost canny eating, that is a cannibal eating him :) Now he has a new nickname; Short Pork. I am not even giving the spoiler away on that one.!
Elsbeth is still my hero and just as bad to the bone!
It seems like the crew drag themselves out of a bad situation right into another one. Not only do they have to fight through HUGE zombie hoardes, there is a new kind of zombie that we haven't figured out yet in this book.
They run into some wackadoos, I mean the zombie apocalypse is full of these jerks, that happen to be a cult. Jace and some of the crew are captured by them and have to make it through a zombie pit in total darkness.
Along the way they keep running into human bodies that are skinned with bloody warnings written on walls! The skin sitting off to the side! Yuck!
They pick up another for their crew and lose some. I'm not giving away spoilers in this book, you need to read to see.
I'm ready for the next one to come out to see what in the hell they are going to do now that there is a sh*t storm coming!
Wow! Another great read by Jake Bible! From us finally figuring out why Jace talks to himself, to there being something much worse than zombies . Looking forward to the next book!
Had to skipped a lots of the audible due to Jason again to be honest have gotten to the point I can not handle this character and even thought I like the series I question my reason to purchase. The story is fairly like the other books but in this you meet religious crazies and minster like we have today, more skinned bodies of people and skin folded in nice neat piles and oh yes more and more zombies. The series is good but it has it drawbacks specially with Jason a gurk, bigot and all around asshole and very much
The series is still going strong, but this one is a bit of a step backwards. The humor that made the other books so good has gone from funny to annoying. And it would be nice to see at least something go right for the hero for a change. The guy just can't catch a break. It keeps the story going but it's harder to continue cheering someone when they are constantly losing.
Some seriously crazy sh*t by that college town. Psycho middle-aged women living a fantasy sorority gang life. Bodies dressed in orange college apparel propped up in every window like fans of the slaughter below. Of course, Jase's inability to keep his thoughts in his own head is just constantly hilarious.
Some parts of this book seem to be almost scripted for the screen. Perhaps I've been too parsimonious with my rating stars. This author has given me a few chuckles, and considerably more entertainment than I'm finding on television these days.
A month after cannibal road the Survivors must face a religious cult in a snow storm Excellent narration from Andrew as always Highly recommended zombie series I received a free review audiobook and voluntarily left this review
So many jokes, Long Pork's snark makes this apocalypse seriously hilarious and unmissable! I couldn't put it down, or stop laughing, great narration, Andrew is exactly how I imagine Jace sounds. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
With the exception of a few details here and there, this book is pretty much the same as the one that came before it... and the same before that if I'm honest. You could pretty much boil most of these books down to a simple formula of Jace and the Stanfords get in trouble and Elspeth arrives to save the day.
As always there are still things to like; Jace remains funny, and in the main, I still like the characters. There is also the another complication in Jace's life which, while not a good thing for him, was much needed for this series.
However, this series continues to fail to live up to the potential I was hoping for, but as always it was just so close... never mind.
Overall, it's an okay book that's easy reading and does just enough to keep your interest alive for the next novel in the series. 3-stars with continuing potential for more in the future.
Wow! The Z-Burbia Series has been great from page one, but things are really starting to pick up now!!! To say that the odds are against the Stanford family and their friends would be an understatement; but with a little luck and lots of help from Elsbeth, the ex-canny killing savant adopted by "Jace" and family, they seem to continue to land on their feet again and again. Plus, on top of all the action and post-apocalyptic drama, the jokes keep on rolling off Jason "Long Pork" Stanford's tongue, and his inner filter seems to have been turned off completely in this latest installment of the Z-Burbia series! Who can keep a straight face when "Long Pork" is strapped to a chair in a cult's torture room making fun of their leader he so kindly names "Lizard Jesus"?!?
I usually only get a chance to read five minutes here and ten minutes there, with one lucky Friday morning each week where I get to read for a whole hour straight. But Z-Burbia 5 was so incredible I decided to read instead of sleep, finishing the book within one 24-hour period. IT WAS THAT GOOD! So, if you enjoy zombies and/or apocalyptic thriller series even the slightest bit, you have to give Jake Bible's Z-Burbia Series a try. This book may not be for those with weak stomachs, and I don't think I would let my younger kids read it; but to everybody else...read this book. Actually, I would suggest starting with book one, but definitely check it out!
Jake Bible delivers another great novel in this series. The quest for safety and survival carries on as Jace and the crew reach the Midwest. They have a new batch of dangerous obstacles to overcome. From growing Z herds, winter storms, and crazy cults the gang finds themselves in more danger than ever. I love the characters. Jace is so funny, I find myself laughing all the way through the book. I recommend that anyone who loves post apocalyptic thrillers read this series. I can't wait for the next book.
Totally love this series of books. Jace is a brilliant character and i love the interaction between him and his wife, Relationships like theirs give a tiny bit of hope for humanity. The end bit was very sweet. Elsbeth is also a great heroine, the licking of the face was very funny. I read this in between struggling to finish a book by a writer i used to love, but just couldn't get into. i finished this in two nights, and that's the point, books shouldn't be hard work, they should be escapism in its best form. This series comes under that category. Little Canny :(
Not the best of the series. Jace is getting annoying, and I think Elsbeth is getting a little too much like a superhero. Not that any Zombie apocalypse book should be considered realistic, but would every single person left over become insane? Would there really be all these groups staying together under an insane leader? Wouldn't there be additional normal groups out there?
omg Mr Jake Bible bro!! Everyone around me thought I was nuts because I kept laughing out loud, especially at the start with the tummy bug incident. Yes it is a zombie story!! But the main character who's story I'm never quite sure is being said out loud or not, is such a crazy awesome mess! Seriously loving this series bro. Sad though, cause I'm nearing the end
More amazing mayhem during the zombie apocalypse. Included in this sequel is wildly inappropriate sex toys, burning coal mines, and the lovable, one-armed Jace Standford sans filter. All that head trauma finally caught up to him and his brain to mouth filter is gone. Now his POV is out loud for the whole group of survivors to enjoy and it leads to a lot of laughs.
Been waiting on this book for a while now! Just sorry I read too fast...Mr. Bible has a way with words...love the characters (Jace especially) and I found myself laughing a lot...really entertaining...worth every penny!
